  1. I've recently read that for the ported vacuum off the front carb to this dizzy's vacuum should be 10 hgs at 2500 rpms to get full advance to the dizzy. FWIW I'M still working on total advance with my high dollar timing light. Fun working with my inexperience LOL
  2. Thank you! 8^)
  3. I used Hasting cast iron on my 280 4 or 5 years ago. It still runs very well. I think the last compression check was 170. My machinist honed mine for the chrome faced rings, you're right there is a difference. He told me the OE Nissan rings were chrome faced but cast iron was a fantastic replacement. It'll be explained by Tom Monroe. Pages 68 & 69.
  4. I was worried they were inferior oil rings. Thank you for letting me know it as an installation issue, I'll sleep better knowing that. 8^) Cliff
  5. I used Hastings on my 2.4, chrome faced moly. My machinist got them for me after I searched and searched with no luck for 83mm rings. You may have better luck with your 84mm size? I don't know anything about oil ring dynamics but I have great oil pressure, if that means anything?
  6. You've got the earlier SUs. Click on "Spotters Guide, Z Cars" on the left side column. http://www.ztherapy.com/ I wish mine had the knobs.
  7. They seem to be held in Nashville Tennessee every April. I can't find any info on any upcoming events, it's a facebook.com thing. This forum is as close as I'll get to any social networking, it's MY facebook. Steve will fill us in.
  8. I'd trade this four legged blender for one or two right now!
  9. Not trying to steal the spotlight from Harrington but the bumper brackets Eurodat aka Chas makes from stainless are top notch products too. I'd buy some stainless scuff plates, that's a great idea. You are talking the aluminium ones? or the black that holds the carpet down?
  10. I'm pretty sure I put the seal on first then set the crank in. The best tip I got on the side seals from @Diseazd was leave the rear cap about an inch off the block then push the side seals down. When they bottom out tighten the cap down. Snip the excess off with side cutters. I put black rtv in the corners of the block before the cap too. When you get it torqued down put some where the cap's sides meet the block. I use Tom Monroes "how to rebuild your Datsun L motor", best instructions ever. $20 from amazon.com. It's the best money spent for me. I've built two that turned out perfect following his instructions. I'd never rebuilt a car motor either. That book and the kind folks on this forum made it easy. Good luck and ask anything, no smartasses on here. 8^)
  11. A Coca-Cola? Must have been breakfast.
  12. I have great respect for you guys with kids so close in age, more so for your wives. My sister wanted a girl but wound up with 4 boys then her husband had a clipping done thank god. I can't keep up with their birthdays and Christmas is expensive but I like them all. One is eerily similar to uncle cliff, he doesn't think twice before diving head first. She was pregnant four times in five years. I took my dad's '84 Vette to my '87 prom. Stayed long enough for the proof we went pictures then to a hotel room party. I beat that car for all it as worth that night. It was a very fast car back then and I raced everything that pulled alongside me. As Carol Burnett sang " memories, nothing but memories..."
  13. The guy I bought mine from used SEM white vinyl paint and it looks like new. I found a small area behind the radio that looks like butterscotch. Amazing difference by comparison. Is it a friend of your's or a restoration job you've taken on? That shaved rear of your's looks awesome and dual exhaust, wow!
  14. I'm a big fan of the 918 too. I'm trying to buy a lime green/yellow, 112 I think is the color code, right now. A couple more weeks and I think he'll take my offer. His wife says sale, she'll get her way eventually. Waiting game.
  15. 5? You've got your own basketball team. Congratulations. If they take after you they'll have good fulfilling lives. 8^)
  16. Weird seeing the rear finisher body color. Is it 110 red with black interior? Did y'all load it onto a railroad car?
  17. I use a '78 FPR at the end of my aluminium fuel rail. Down the road if you think that may be the problem you can get the '78 for $30 or $40 from rockauto.
  18. You've made my day Captain. That shirt meant a lot to me giving it to such a great guy! I am looking forward to getting another one to you someday soon. 8^)
  19. Drying out? Rain and brew I'm guessing.
  20. I wish you were still active, Mr Britannica. You don't know how much information you've provided for me. Thank you!
  21. I'll post the part number for a new sending unit and oring in the a.m. I think it was less than $50 from my local nissan dealership. If you cut off the arm for sealing the opening while refurbishing your tank take pictures of the old one for comparison. I had to bend the float arm mine to match for accurate fuel gauge.
  22. Fantastic! They've been winning a lot of accolades for their brew nationwide. Have you seen the Seigel house yet? Supposedly the biggest and gaudiest in America.
  23. That's damn good thinking! It really only needs to pull it over the window. Next window I bust I'll use weedeater cord, thanks!
  24. I've done two rear windows using that trick. It works great. I did my little pickup by myself but had to get someone to help on a bigger car window. I mowed yards for a few years and busted quite a few with my weedeater slinging rocks against glass on a hot interior car. white nylon rope worked best for me, 1/4 or 3/8". I can't remember which now.
  25. $5 for both. I at first thought it was the slave cylinder hose leaking. New crush washers were my next move then I'd have to bleed that again, PITA. I put a empty (of course) beer case box under there a couple of days ago and saw it was coming off the speedo cable. Thanks guys, you've saved me again. 8^)
