[2017] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Went for a fantastic (flawless) hour and a half sunrise drive. Car is running great. Big change from yesterday when I mowed 15 acres. Fortunately we have an air conditioned cab but it's all glass except the top so it's of little use at 100 plus degrees. Just like everywhere, it's bad hot and humid down here.

Thinking about installing an BMW M6 engine in my Z
If he's a landscaper he'll have all he wants to do now that the Z is done. Hard to find guys that have his skill and attention to detail in that business, around here anyhow. I've been using .105" red round line for 10 years but just bought a 3lb spool of .095" orange round. I noticed it a lot in your pictures so that was good enough to make that decision for me. 155 more feet at just 3mm smaller.

280z stalling issue (I've tried the search feature!)
What kind of air filter are you using? Have you ran it with no filter or housing just straight air through the SUs?

Advice lining up MSA exhaust on a 240?
Yes it is right behind the rubber strap that goes over the nose off the differential. I crawled under there to make sure.

Advice lining up MSA exhaust on a 240?
I can go look to be 100% but I'm 99.9% sure its behind where the driver's seat is. After the seat or seat pan the underside goes up and that one hooks up in there. It's on the long straighter pipe that comes off the header. EDIT: It is at connection of the S pipe to the straighter one. I'd be more than happy to go downstairs and take more pictures if you want me to. Let me know...

Added to my Garage this weekend!
I'm sure you have put some miles on it by now but I wanted to add my experience from going from dirt bikes to street that almost cost me my right foot. Dirt bikes you run hard into the turn and use the rear brake. Street bikes are completely opposite of that to me, 80% front and 20% rear.

hood louvers-78 280Z-paint removal
I think I would sand them as best I could then a couple of coats of the satin black. A sheet of 220 grit folded in half would probably fit in between the vents? Rustoleum makes a high temp bar b que satin black.

Build date help
I believe they raised the deck height to accommodate a larger fuel tank and the slope was to cover the rear brake light panel? I'm not positive though. I know my 240 has that plastic panel that's about 8 inches tall and goes from the driver's side to passenger's. It's held in place with plastic push pin rivets. My 280 doesn't have that, you can just pull the deck up and hang it on the driver's side hatch strut with a black elastic strap that has a hook on it. I thought I had a picture but can't find it now. here's the thread but some pictures are gone, anyway it explains it all.

Rear deck lid pannel material?
As bad as I hate to say it, I've bought treated lumber and switched the stickers off cheaper pine wood. I was young and stupid, now I'm older and still stupid but I wouldn't do the ole switch a roo today. Too much to lose besides sleep now. Clarity edit: we would get the high dollar wood for the cheap price and return it for the money. Then buy beer. Not proud of that but it happened. Sorry Lowes.

280z 2 kinds of keys - each kind only does one thing
Removing the door panels without damaging them was my "lean to yes" moment. They've never been off and fit nice and tight all the way around.

Build date help
I've learned something new I didn't know yesterday. Thank you Zed Head. Even a dead cat will bounce if dropped from high enough. That reminds me of a saying I used to hear when I was river racing my boat and all these guys said theirs would run over a 100 mph. The guy that worked on mine would always say "the only way that'll go over a hunnert is droppin it from a airplane" Free fall is 122 mph.

Is that zhome.com, the registry you're reading? I've never heard the dead cat story. Had one climb in the window and wizz/spray in mine before. I'dve like to bounced him to death, that's a bad smell.

280z 2 kinds of keys - each kind only does one thing
Sounds like you have a newer ignition switch. Mine has the same thing as your's, two keys. Pretty common I've always heard, mainly from people with a wad of keys on the key chain hanging down on the ignition for all these years. I remember when I was young key chains and pendants being a little overboard.

Build date help
Mine is 355,834, build date of 09/'76 titled as a '77. Look at the rear deck and see if it slopes up toward the rear window, it should and you should have a space saver uninflated spare tire.

L28 280Z Car engine problems!!!
Mine would run at first after it has sat for awhile, then the crudded up tank would slosh around and clog up my fuel filters slowly killing the car. Ended up dropping the tank and refurbishing it. Here's a quick and cheap way to see if you have trash in the tank and/or prevent it from getting in the EFI system. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/fuel/g3filter/index.htm

Engine time
I can tell you from my experience, waaaay easier to rebuild a 2.8 than a 2.4. Parts are harder to get for a 240. Search for rings and a timing kit, gaskets too. They all say put 2.8 parts on a 2.4 but I had trouble doing that. Took me a month to rebuild my 280, 3 months for the 240. But you do live in a little more Z friendly area.

My Datsun 280Z "Rustoration"
Glad you're back. After following your build and then to hear you were selling that beauty knocked the wind out of me. I've had times when I thought of selling my favorite one too. Thankfully I have a good relationship with Visa.

Rear deck lid pannel material?
I'm good and awake now so I need to wise up my earlier post. I don't have a metric tape measure and in between 3/8s & 1/2 inches would be 7/16". And I thought transferring one on a piece of paper then mailing it to you would work as good as the actual piece? And then I thought about the rubber stoppers on the bottom of the hatch, mine were rotted out so I bought new ones from my local Nissan dealership. They use some crazy descriptions on their packaging but theses are the ones.

You could probably borrow a compression gauge from a chain parts store. That'd be my first step. Hope it's nothing serious.

Rear deck lid pannel material?
I'll try my best here, if you need something let me know. I don't have a millimeter tape measure but these are dead on 1/8's, except the distance from the outer edge and the holes all the way around. They are falling in between 3/8" and 1/2" on my tape measure. Overall length, 34-5/8" Width, 5-3/4" 1st hole, 5/8" from edge 2nd, 9-3/8" 3rd, 17-1/4" 4th, 25-1/8" 5th, 34-1/8" I started my measuring from the left side and the holes are between 3/8"&1/2" from the outer edge. I bought what I believe is the closest to original from Lowes hardware. Four #8 speed nuts and four #8x5/8" screws. Those are for the 2nd and 4th holes top and bottom, from the left. Six "variable depth push fasteners GM" for the 1st, 3rd and 5th holes top and bottom. I hope you can make sense of this but if zKars is willing to give you one for a template that would be better.

Rear deck lid pannel material?
Agree with zKars. That's why mine is off, it was bent in/broken over the years. I suppose something slid into it? But that's why I removed it and had an upholstery shop glue that thin metal patch in my first picture.
