  1. That's what it's all about, friendships and Zs. Here's that link to the instructions that will help whomever buys your set-up. He did it on a '77 but the earlier wiring diagram is also provided. He's such a nice guy! http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributor/index.html
  2. I have a Flamethrower 1.5 coil, works good too. Pretty sure the 240s use 3.0 OHMS?
  3. 5 months left, tick tock!
  4. Did you get rid of your 240 or just decide to stay original? When I switched to the ZX one it was a big improvement over the OE points one and it was fairly easy to do. I followed a write up from Blue's Tech Tips. Good luck with the sale, that's a good price for everything needed but the ZX coil. Especially after what California Datsun charged you, $350.
  5. I did one once and only once, it was a pain but using a very big screwdriver I was able to push the retainer down enough to expose the clips then used a pencil magnet to get them out and waboom. The screwdriver came off and springs shot out. This was with the head on a work bench though so much easier than what you're doing. I bought one of these first but it wouldn't work under the cam. This is the only one I've heard of that works. There's a couple of guys on here that bought them and used them one time. I think they would loan it out if the shipping was worth the trouble. Good luck, kinda sucks you have worked the carbs only to run into this issue.
  6. I'd guess the aftermarket part as well. I put Moogs on my '72 from rockauto.com. They have the grease zerk with them. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/nissan,1971,240z,2.4l+l6,1209158,steering,tie+rod+end,7428 If you wanted to go all shade tree, wrap the threads with teflon tape.
  7. I know if I leave my choke lever pulled back overnight the bowls empty until the level gets even with the nozzle's top. With my water heater down there it didn't take too long to break that carelessness.
  8. Mine ran pretty good as long as I was on flat land. That was when they only were getting about a quarter full. When I went up a steep hill the front carb would shut down. It's hard to for me to think it's just the carbs after ztherapy sent him a good set and all his problems started. I think Black Gold Man had the best idea, go to that race track and find a Datsun mechanic from a local race team. They should have the phone number or a name at least on their trailers. Get some binoculars and sit in the parking lot, write down all you can see
  9. It sounds like it's kicking back a little to me too. Here's some pictures that'll help getting to TDC. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/timing/mechtime.html
  10. You could shoot it down that hose off the valve cover but make sure to open the throttle blade so it'll get into the intake manifold. Roll the throttle rod to the driver's side fender to open it up, squirt some in. The reason I say that is you won't have to touch the accordion hose, those are begging to crack and expensive to replace. Some people pull the brake booster hose off but then you've opened up the intake to unmetered air, aka "vacuum leak".
  11. I can't remember if you've said this already but will it fire with starting fluid?
  12. That's what I think too Captain. Close is good enough then fine tune them with the nozzles or "equally crappy" as 240260280 says. Getting the choke cables right was harder for me than the floats.
  13. That'll help with the higher price for me whether it helps MPG or not, appreciate that.
  14. I met the guy that invented Goof Off at a paint show in Atlanta in the late 80s. He was just a drunkard commercial painter that repainted apartment units but he knew Ronsonol alcohol would get latex paint off switch plates and other hardware. He mixed up some Ronsonol with acetone and called it Goof Off because you could goof off and paint but be able to clean up the mess. After that show he sold it off and now he's a bizillonaire is what we heard (probably dead by now though). He was wearing painter's over-alls too, loud and funny guy. Good story I'll always remember.
  15. That is a four year old price, now it's $273!
  16. That car would undercut sod!
  17. And it's supposed to blow out from the valve cover to get circulated back through the intake. It connects on the big rubber accordion hose before the throttle body. Something I ran into that was a pretty good vacuum leak was my dumbass putting the valve cover gasket on upside down. At the front where the thermostat housing bolts on to the head is straighter than the passenger's side. You'll see it sticking out above the thermostat housing if I remember right.
  18. Those are for a big cam, Schneider 270-90F, so not stock pressure springs. Retainers back in 2/'15, $77.95 for 12 springs, $96.99 for 12
  19. Let some air out of the fronts.
  20. Carquest from advance here is $189 minus 25% is $141.
  21. Here's a very informative thread on 240's evap tanks. Lots of ideas and pictures. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17542-treating-insideoutside-of-gas-tank-with-por15-products-and-removing-evaporation-tank/
  22. This is a mo betta visualization. Didn't have any food coloring.
  23. Use your imagination but this is close to what you want.
