  1. Ohhh! That's bad...
  2. Right near Rancho Cucamonga, maybe it's something in the water...sarc
  3. I have 3 different tanks here but it would be nice to salvage this tank too. I may not use it in this build but I would still like to try to get it reasonably shaped. I am sure I could cut the tank and split it but am not sure I am a good enough welder to seam it up again I have a number of studs welded to it right now and the slide hammer wont even budge it. That makes me wonder if air pressure would even do it. I guess if the pressure is high enough. The small holes wouldn't be an issue to cap but the large ones might be if I needed fairly high pressures...?
  4. I can think of a lot more cars I would rather have for that kind of money...
  5. Even on an efi tank? There are a lot more structures internally; it's pretty stout
  6. @kats Do you have a source for these if she can PayPal the funds? Thanks, Charles
  7. @duffymahoney http://vaporhoningtechnologies.com/wet-blasting-abrasives/ Might want to look at this page. The "anti microbial" agent and "anti packing" agent might be good adds. Also his price on beads isn't bad either... "Anti corrosion" would be good too if you are gonna do any steel items
  8. Yup, not such a big deal if you know you can put it back That's all good progress
  9. I would be interested in the washers that mount on the top and bottom of the mustache bar
  10. Yes they are different. The upper washer has a larger hole because the chassis stud has a larger diameter as you get closer to the car floor. Also the lower washer with the smaller hole has a recess sort of like the tension rod washers to accept a washer and nut I assume.
  11. Yes, absolutely!! Get me the chemistry if it come up. My wife is a chemist and can translate for me. I know there are two main types of zinc plating baths. I don't know which one is the Caswell system. I would love to know what our plating bath is. The brightener we use and the chromates. The brightener being the highest priority as it is a consumable and fairly expensive. Plating tank solution next and Chromates last. If I could find a testing lab near me that wouldn't tear me a new one I would figure it out on my own. A professor in this field could be a huge "Ringer"
  12. Crenelated as in the style on the studs or the style on the string?
  13. I believe current plays a major part. I lean towards more current is shinier but I haven't done anything that makes that conclusive. It would be interesting to know how temperature affects shine. My bath is thermostatically controlled about 117F or so
  14. That's funny! If I thought I could get predictable results I would try it.
  15. Is he razor blading the paint off the hood???
  16. Will you leave it Km/H?
  17. I totally agree. My biggest thing now is sometimes I get a really shiny plate and sometimes I don't. I have used a lot of brightener, but am not sure if that's the secret or not. Part of it is the way the parts are wired, hung and powered. Someone else's experience does help narrow the process substantially. Also I have found that other Caswell platers are better at troubleshooting than the Caswell forum or support unfotunately.
  18. So the car had a turbo engine in it when I got it. I don't know if it ran. This is the fuel tank that was in it. The tanks are a lot thicker than they look. I tried the slide hammer to pull the dents, not happening!. I have another tool to try. I may put a 240z tank in it, since I don't need any of the EFI ports, baffles or sizing. What is the stock feed supply size?? this tank has a 1/2" feed port... Stripped with some airplane stripper
  19. This is my first batch out of the barrel plater. They look ok, but some of them burnt. They could also be shinier. The barrel is so slick inside, the material doesn't rotate. It just slides. So I worked on modifying it yesterday. I may try another batch on Sunday
  20. Please forgive if I have already posted these, I lose track... This is what you want right out of the tank! the shinier the better! I took a shot at the E-brake cable. I blasted them and degreased them. Then immersed the ends and plated. Then I folded it in half and plated the center springs. I also took a shot at some old master cylinder caps. They turned out pretty good. The corroded cap is similar to what I started with
