  1. Charles - I just picked up some mentions of the change in class structure from prior meets with comments of going back to the "old" classes.
  2. Steve - keep in mind the rules are about "visible" mods, things that change the appearance. Note that I listed no suspension mods. My drivetrain is bone stock except for a 0.030 overbore. Paint color is a free item unless you are in stock class. BTW - the People's Choice classes this year were arranged by generation and had a lot of negative feedback. I heard they are going back to the "old" classes next year, not sure if those mirror the judged show classes. Hope this helps.
  3. Steve, I got no questions from the judges on mods so I don't know how it worked across all the cars. I had my mods listed on a paper in case it came up and I counted the spook and spoiler as two because they were sold separately. I talked to Mike W before the show, he had declared for Street Mod class but was judged in Nissan Mod class. I don't know if this was his change or the judges. I removed my strut bars before the trip to give me some cushion on the count if needed. Here's my list: Exterior BRE front “Spook” BRE rear spoilerShaved and painted bumpersAlloy wheels Interior Stereo and speakersFog/driving light toggle switchSeatbeltsConsole arm restFire extinguisherEngine Bay Air pump and related controls removedHeader and exhaust systemFIAMM Air hornsRelays for headlights and turn signals
  4. I got a call from "Mad" Mike Taylor last night - he's already urging me to tow the Z to Toronto just to put it out for show! About 1,400 miles, 2.5 - 3 days each way. Easy for him to say "do it"! Hmmm - compare that to a 3 hr. flight from Dallas. Gonna have to work on that suggestion VERY hard to make any sense of it.

+1 on an alternative antenna switch possibility. The female connector is likely the power into the switch, the other two will be power out to the up and down sides of the motor. However - an antenna switch has 3 positions: neutral/up/down. If this switch has only 2 positions, all bets are off.
  6. Excellent write-up Mike, and that better explains the slide shown at the awards party. Many thanks for providing this insight and detail. Jim
  7. Congrats on joining our merry, mad group of owners! A couple of brief notes on working your project: * Individually bag and tag EVERYTHING that comes off the car - as I told another poster a while back: you want to become the zip bag king on your block. Do not rely on your memory, do not combine a lot of stuff into a common bag such as bolts, washers, ...etc. * Throw NOTHING away until the replacement item is installed. * Keep a running list (spreadsheet recommended) of everything that might need replacement as it comes off the car - this list can eventually become your build sheet as you purchase your parts. I have a PDF of my build sheet as an example. If you want a copy, PM me with your email. Good luck - you have a great start!!! I vote for 920 Safari Gold if you do a re-paint (prejudiced yes!).
  8. Jim, Thanks for the feedback. Indeed, I was already "off planet" when they announced the GC. The slide they put up shows a different total, suggesting Mike and Shane out-pointed me. I'll be looking forward to the judging sheets. Are they sent to each entrant? Jim A.
  9. Hey Jim - are there any spares you don't have? As it turns out, the ZCON judges didn't check out the antenna mast - almost every one I saw was down, as was mine. It turned out to be much ado about naught on my part! Christian - I hope you're making good progress on the car this summer. Jim
  10. Blue - maybe you can "shop" Mike W into the group photo from my shot with him. Zup - Super nice write-up on the group!!! Your kind words are deeply appreciated. Where did you locate or otherwise obtain info on the judging points?
  11. Yet another yellow item - cover plate, bolts, washers
  12. Here's Mike W and me holding the Gold Cup. After this pic was taken we immediately began struggling for sole possession of it. Matsuo-san walked up waving a Samurai katana over his head and was ready to split it down the middle, all the while Chris Karl was screaming "NOOOOOooooooooo!" and yelling that each of us would get our own trophy after it was engraved and sent us. We both reluctantly turned the trophy over to Chris and no one was injured. Matsuo-san was clearly disappointed he didn't get to use the katana.
  13. Ready to hit the road in the morning.
  14. Looks like a deal to be scooped up! Seeing it on a rotisserie is the best possible inspection of the body. Do it and begin making plans to get it back home. I see a box truck rental in your near future.
  15. The way I see it, we WILL have weather!
  16. Hey Mike - looks like the Z will be travlin' in style! Nice rig. Z'ya in Memphis. Jeff - this will be my first tow. I'll be using my '09 Xterra with a factory tow pkg (5,000 lb. rating) and a U-Haul trailer for the Z. Like Mike, I'll have a better report after ZCON. Jim
  17. You may be right on track with a suspect proportioning valve. Mine was frozen and prevented fluid from reaching the rear brakes. All became better when I replaced it with one from a friend's parts car.
  18. +1 on Jeff's recommendation. My builder installed the expansion / freeze plugs, then painted the block. No painting during assembly.
  19. Looks like we'll be the first ones in - arriving Sunday the 12th. Gonna do the tourist thing in Memphis while others are hitting the track.
  20. I found the AC Delco product on eBay for $13.43 each, free shipping. Need 1.5 liter for the tranny. This is a great thread, thanks for all the details on the friction modified fluids.
  21. Check your wheel bearings also.
  22. See bottom on page on the link. http://www.zzxdatsun.com/catRequests.php
  23. Here's my block getting painted with paint sourced from Banzai Motorworks. I think this color has been authenticated as restoration accurate by ZCCA. It looks to be a lot lighter than in your latest picture.
  24. For everyone attending, don't forget to bring your favorite S30 photo or memorabilia for Mr. Matsuo to sign. I just ordered up an 8X10 glossy of my car for his autograph.
  25. Keep in mind that not all '71s are just another 240Z. The Series 1 run went to the end of January 1971 - to VIN 20,500 (approx.). Series 1 cars with a build date of 9/70 - 1/71 are all titled as a '71 model. These cars tend to have a higher value than the Series 2 '71s. Tell us a bit more about the VIN and build date you are looking at and pics will help a lot.
