Virus variant. So, does the variation cause more spreading or does the spreading cause more variation? https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/19/uk/christmas-covid-strain-restrictions-intl-gbr/index.html "The spread is being driven by the new variant of the virus," Johnson said in a hastily called press conference. "It appears to spread more easily and may be up to 70% more transmissable than the earlier strain."
  3. Last thing - many of us have found that any Nissan key will operate the ignition on our Z's. They wear out fast and get loose. I could start my 76 with my 1995 Pathfinder key. So if you have some Nissan keys, or the guy selling the car does, give them a try.
  4. Here's some stuff on the steering lock. Can't remember exactly how it works but you will need this anyway if you don't have the key code. You'll need some tools to shave off the head of the tiny screw that holds the ignition cylinder on. If you have time though and the car still has the key code on the sticker inside the glove box (and the glove box is unlocked), you could take the code to a locksmith and have a key made. All they need is the key code. If you get it on the trailer this is a better way to get a key made anyway. One key should work on everything.
  5. This might help on the transmission.

They're starting to come around, barely. New rush hour rules. Their plan was that, supposedly, each individual would make the safe choice for everyone. Individual responsibility with concern for fellow citizens. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-55371102 Sweden's government is recommending wearing face masks on public transport during the rush hour, reversing its earlier Covid guidance. It will also cut from the current eight to four per table the number of people sitting together in restaurants, and ban alcohol sales after 20:00.
  7. I think that the WH found out that Europe is getting a better deal on the Pfizer vaccine. I'll bet that they're trying to get Pfizer to drop the price. They're not thinking about the people, only about the business. Florida has problems too. https://www.miamiherald.com/news/coronavirus/article247933225.html https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/dec/18/belgian-minister-accidentally-tweets-eus-covid-vaccine-price-list
  8. And be careful on the length of those housing bolts. At least one of them is right behind the timing chain guide. People have pushed the guide in to the chain with a bolt that was too long.

Here's another "maybe the scientists know what they're talking about" story. I wonder how this guy thought before he saw what happens first-hand. He's the manager, the guy that makes the rules and sets the tone for the team and staff. How did so many get infected at the same time? Young and super fit is no shield. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/dec/18/newcastle-manager-steve-bruce-shocked-by-effect-of-covid-on-players

I think that rich powerful people generally think of the "rest of us" as a herd. A work force to be managed. So a few of the herd get damaged or die, there's plenty more to take their place.
  11. The modified blue 76 didn't go at $20,000. Doesn't seem anything special about it. Modified to suit the owner's tastes. L28, 5 speed, clean, new dash, new paint. No magnet valves so not sure how the heater controls operate. Have to dig in to that, I thought they all used vacuum control (Edit - I guess non-AC cars did not use vacuum kocks. So this is a non-AC car). Wonder what the owner was holding out for. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1976-datsun-280z-41/?utm_source=dm&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2020-12-18
  12. This guy, man, is he like a communications genius or just unaware? Who let this get posted? Is it on purpose? I don't know, just have to share.
  13. Probably pretty good collateral to borrow against. Buy some junk for $100 claim its value at $5000. Take out a loan. I wonder if these guys are really in the car selling business.
  14. Why is Cee Lo the only one in his pajamas?

Advice from Fauci. The numbers say that taking a chance on a Christmas visit isn't worth it. https://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/anthony-fauci-christmas-covid-19-warning-074907989.html
  16. If it's the typical break, half of it is still in the thermostat housing. You want to get the housing just broken free of the mounting surface without breaking the bolt stub off at the head. Then twist the housing back and forth and wiggle it and let the rust dust trickle out. Once you wiggle/work the housing off the bolt stub, the stub will probably twist out by hand.
  17. Use a Sharpie or a scribe or some whiteout and mark the rotating plate and the pedestal. Match the marks when you reinstall it and your timing should be the same as when you removed it. There are actually two marks already on the parts, probably for the factory assembly, so you could take a picture and match the picture if you want to clean things up and lose the marks you made yourself. Some of them have marks that show advance and retard also, I think. The distributor can only install on the drive spindle one way. There's no "180 off" with the L engines. Pull it out, do your work, put it back and match the marks.
  18. Another shiny late model 280Z, a 78. Burgundy. Looks pretty nice. New shifter bushings! And modified front license plate for optimum aerodynamics. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1978-datsun-280z-81/
  19. A decent 77 just came up, with some odd bumpers (upside down?), and a free shoe. Very shiny, looks like new paint. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1977-datsun-280z-48/
  20. Looks it came from the same field as the blue one, somebody's clearing out a collection. They must have a set presentation format, they didn't include any number verification or title information, again. Almost like they're not really trying to sell them.
  21. One thing that I've found helps when bleeding brakes is to just think in terms of fluid and bubbles. You can bench bleed and do it wrongly if you have the wrong end of the cylinder up. Just be aware of where the air is and try to fill everything with fluid. And full strokes help because the bubbles will always hide at the top-most little spot. Imagine what's in the MC - the ports that head out to the front and rear ends is at the bottom. The bubble will be at the top. And, bubbles compress, so a slow incomplete stroke can just compress a bubble over and over again. Be the bubble.

Here's some crazy stuff. Remember "open the schools!". Now it makes more sense, if you're crazy. "Infants, kids, teens, young people, young adults, middle aged with no conditions etc. have zero to little risk….so we use them to develop herd…we want them infected…" Alexander added." https://www.politico.com/news/2020/12/16/trump-appointee-demanded-herd-immunity-strategy-446408
  23. Why slow and why barely? I'd give a few good full pumps. It's new so there shouldn't be any crud in the bore to worry about. It should just squirt a bunch of fluid. Actually, to get picky, you were supposed to run the plunger through its stroke while it was off to bench bleed it. Bench bleed, install, continue system bleed.
  24. Reserve not met for the bright red 73. The seller could have made $3,250! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-datsun-240z-150/ https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-datsun-240z-80/

Making fun of the English. Singing, shouting, cheering, packed together. Of course, NFL games are about the same. As soon as the cases drop they raise the risk of transmission. Not enough people are sick, get those crowds together! https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/what-december-16-tier-review-19451893
