  1. The injectors and fuel rail might be fine or they might be rusty. It's hard to say. Disconnect a few lines and look inside. Fuel filter and cold start valve are easy to get to. The Body Electrical chapter shows where all of the relays are and has a drawing of the fuse box. Also has many small wiring diagrams that are very detailed. Spend some time there, and in Engine Electrical and in Engine Fuel.
  2. Even 1989 is 31 years ago. Even in California there's going to be moisture in the tank, besides the stuff left behind when it evaporates. The pump is probably shot. But, the pump does not get power unless the key is at Start or the engine is running. Don't run the pump though, until you know the tank is clean. You'll just push all of the crud in to the fuel line to the filter. Also beware of the old high pressure EFI lines. They are usually cracked inside after many years and can split or leak.
  3. Here are some good wasp and hornet videos. This guy is kind of odd, he seems to be working for his chickens. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb-mXwDehQf0pEgS0rlGJ9w
  4. There's a nature show out there somewhere, I saw it years ago, about a guy in Japan who was a Murder Hornet tracker. He would catch one and tie a thread around it with a small piece of white paper attached. Then he'd chase after it to find the nest. It was a pretty good show I'm surprised that none of the networks have dug it out yet. Apparently the big concern is that they can wipe out a honey bee hive in about 20 minutes. They just crawl in and start biting the heads off of them. And, side-note, honeybees are actually not indigenous to North America. They were imported from Europe. Now, back to our normal programming...
  5. $15,000 for the bumperless 77, with a free shoe. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1977-datsun-280z-48/
  6. Just for fun. Pretty good money. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1969-chevrolet-camaro-62/
  7. Just be careful with what you find on the internet. Members have been collecting what they can and uploading it here but I've found mislabeled material around the internet. As for 1977, 77 was the first year of the new door style. And the raised deck in the back with the space saver tire. There are also some odd cylinder heads out there too, apparently. It's a change year. My picture was just showing why I thought the diagram was wrong. I just couldn't see the connections. It should be fine.
  8. I figured out what they did. They just didn't use very big marks to show the connections. So tiny. You'll find that 77 is kind of a transition year for several things, and for whatever reason many of the documents out there are incomplete or are actually 1976 documents.
  9. Check the wires at the starter. The power supply wire to the car uses the starter lug as a connection point to the fusible links which lead to the ignition switch. Check the fusible links also, it's common for them to have a poor connections at the terminal block. Plus, since your battery was connected backward, some of them might be burnt. Basically, you need to use your meter to follow the path and confirm continuity to the right areas. It won't be easy, sounds like you had a mess when you started. Battery > starter lug > fusible links > electrical components. There's something not quite right with that wiring diagram I had here. Deleted it. 1976 makes more sense and should be the same. Shows lights, etc. fed from main link and battery.
  10. The length of the wires suggests that they are connected correctly though. The positive connection is farthest away. Hope there's no damage. Your battery is actually what's flipped, which is how you got in to this mess. Positive typically is under the fender edge. More Nissan genius.
  11. By the way, if you disconnect the two EFI connections you should be able to work on the other stuff without it. It's what people do when they switch to carbs. Disconnect here where I circled. That is EFI power and ground. Two red wires - thank you Nissan. Then reconnect your battery, see if the engine still spins (the right way), get your coil power back, shoot some starting fluid, etc. Let your sub-brain ponder the EFI power situation while you work on that stuff.
  12. One way would be to test continuity to pin 73 at the EFI relay. And I think that the ground wire is redundant, it's also connected to the intake manifold, grounding through the engine block. While you're there at the battery check the fusible link. They can look okay but be burned up inside. The EFI relay is up above the hood release handle in the cabin. If it's like most 280Z's, it's already been out a few times, might even just be hanging there. This is the diagram you want to study to find check points.
  13. At least some good is coming from the omnibus bill. "The federal government would be required to set up a program aimed at eradicating the murder hornet.." https://www.yahoo.com/news/fine-print-5-593-page-130020410.html
  14. You'll want to use your meter and determine which of the small wires is connected to ground and which is connected to the power supply to the EFI system. Might be a good time to study a wiring diagram. Doesn't look like you're one of the lucky ones with a complete car that just needs a couple of small things. You can't get very far on the 280Z's without building up some good electrical skills. It will be fun!
  15. Making progress. The backward battery is one of those Nissan pitfalls that catches many people. Before you reconnect the battery though, check the two small wires that feed the EFI system. You might have got lucky and those were switched also, meaning that they are now right. You don't want to connect your EFI system backward.
  16. Yep, your battery cables are backward. Hopefully nothing has been damaged. The cable that your finger is pointing to should connect to the - post on the battery. Negative. Ignore any cable or wire colors around the battery. Red and black are meaningless.
  17. Is your battery connected backward? I can't tell where the cable goes at the circle I drew (weird how pictures are always fuzzy in the area that matters). Not sure how the starter can work backward but maybe it can. It's a DC motor and solenoids are just magnetic coils. I wonder if your engine is spinning backward. That would be a new one, never heard of it happening. The positive cable should be connected to the solenoid, the small cylinder on the starter motor. The negative cable should be connected to the starter mounting bolt.
  18. If the starter works correctly, and the battery measures correctly, it seems likely that you might be placing your probes in the wrong areas or somebody has reversed some wires. Go back to the source of the power to the coil and see what readings you get.
  19. Have to agree, this does seem odd. Will this be a major surprise for some future owner? Will the BAT crowd be tearing up the comments area? Can't wait for the new member to show up. "My TC rods look strange..."
  20. If you get in to the VR and find that you're maxed out here is an option to consider. Get an external voltage regulator that goes to 11.
  21. 13.4 looks good and 14.4 looks great, right?
  22. Once a person gets rich and powerful they just seem to lose connection with the common person. It seems to happen to even the most conscientious people. Here's Dr. Deborah Birx using the excuses that every common person is aware of, because they all are experiencing the same thing. She, for some weird reason, is completely tone-deaf. She just has the lost the ability to "get it". Dr. Fauci gets it. Dr. Birx doesn't. These same thoughts have been all over the news for the common person for months and months. She thought she was privileged or that nobody would find out. Sad to see a supposed professional be so dim-witted, or, maybe, dishonest. https://nypost.com/2020/12/22/dr-deborah-birx-to-retire-after-holiday-travel-scandal/ "She also tried to justify her decision to travel to Delaware from Washington with her husband, daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren. “I think what was done in the past week to my family — you know, they didn’t choose this for me. They’ve tried to be supportive, but to drag my family into this,” Birx trailed off. “My daughter hasn’t left that house in 10 months, my parents have been isolated for 10 months. They’ve become deeply depressed as I’m sure many elderly have as they’ve not been able to see their sons, their granddaughters,” she said. “My parents have not been able to see their surviving son for over a year. These are all very difficult things,” she added."
