  1. I'd rather forget that the car was ever an automatic, so the fact that that badge is missing doesn't bother me too much. DId you get your fairlady badges locally, or from the US, I certainly think ther are a much nicer looking badge, but then you either get all the questions about whats special about this datsun (Assuming they pick it as being a datsun initially) and knobs who do know telling you your car is not what the badges say it is. Gosh life's tough. CHeers Chris
  2. The shell is still in the guys yard, between me initially looking and him dropping his price a bit, he took all the glass out of it and most of the usable trim panels. On top of a huge hole in the roog (maybe a sunroof, or to go shooting out of) it had some dodgy reapairs to the front end. So not worth dragging home.
  3. At least you get a motoring reporter who has some interest in cars, we have a female reporter who gives a chicks comments about cars, and you get comments like hard to drive in high heeled shoes, and difficult to apply makeup with the rearview mirror. They are factors I really consider when buying a car
  4. Whenever our car club meets we create a moving road block, a combination of 20's and 30's cars is just not good for the main roads. Boy do you get some annoyed motorists . Then you have the guys in their sportscars stuck behind it all there nothing worse than sitting in a passenger seat of an E Type and not being able to get out of second gear. And out of 50 odd cars, there is only ever one Z.
  5. You do not need a power buffer, and in the hands of inexperienced people like you and me, the buffer will do more harm than good, you run a high risk of taking it too far on corners/raised edges. The same results can be acheived using cheesecloth and the correct cutting compound, it just takes a lot of time. Having resprayed a car, then had to redo half of it because the power buffer got out of hand, I would never use one unless I knew exactly what I was doing. But if the guy is offering to fix it let him do it.
  6. THe shell had a few of the plastic trim bits but not in very good nick, however if you are interested I can go back tomorrow and work out exactly whats there. Aside from mechanical bits I have very little that is useful/worthwhile that I don't need for my car. Some of the car was OK, but it had a huge hole for a sunroof, just no sunroof, I guess it would be good to go shooting out of. IF you want to sell the badge, and its the one from the rear hatch (it sounds like it) I would like to be first on the list. Cheers Chris PS Email me with the interior bits you are after and I will get back to you Thorci00@hotmail.com
  7. Today i woke up and told myself that my name is Chris, and I am not going to buy any more worthless rubbish(not implying anything in that boot is worthless rubbish but lots of my bits are). At that very point, a series of events was unfolding that was trying to get me to buy stuff. A 260Z2 seater rolling tub, along with a 2+2 and a spare front clip (frame only) was being pushed onto me, I resisted, and am now suffering withdrawl symptoms for lack of spending money. Now for the real questions: Among that load of spares are there any 240Z badges ie lower guard and front bonnet and rear hatch, that you could be persuaded to part with. And why 240Z tail lights? PS Its a damn good looking bootful, and good luck storing stuff (remember you can only fit so much under your bed)

So the metal nose is still playing on your mind as well?

Please please let it be an OS Giken twin cam head on a real factory ZG, then ship it straight to me
  10. Nissan broke a promise to the public keeping those door handles. It was always going ot be that they disappeared for the produciton models, lying bastards.
  11. Z Kid replied to Stryder's topic in Open Chit Chat
Are we talking a true fairlady ZG, as in a factory made one as opposed to a replica, one with the correct is it 5 piece? gnose? If so you lucky bastard. I'd yell for Alan at this point
  12. Well I went and had a look at it this arvo, and its a Cannon (not a brand i am familiar with) it measures up like it would take 44/45's not just the 40's, appears quite clean on the inside, however it is a bit bastardised (few too many holes drilled in the mounting plate) The guy had never had it on his car nor did he have any linkages etc, so I guess until I find out more about cannon manifolds, it will be a case of wait and see. Cheers Chris
  13. That Z was one of the things that made me get my 240Z, seeing it in the Zoom mag, it was just one of those love at first sight moments.
  14. Just wondering if you could give me an idea on what you would consider a reasonable price to pay for a Cannon Triple 40mm webber intake manifold with no carbs linkages etc

I hope he means selling it was a mistake, as opposed to trying to ensure the saftety of its new owner

Well dad recently bought a car that had been sitting for 17 years (68 E type), and whilst it went ok for a while, on its last trip, it used 27 litres of oil (Shannons national rally) The car had been sitting under a soft sheet for 17 years in a shed. The chrome had all pitted, there was rust which had deveolped (this is a relatively dry climate). It was a good runnin proposition when it went it, however when it was extricated, it needed a few panel repairs, rechromed bumpers, and ultimately a full motor rebuild a year down the track. The brakes also needed the wheel cylinders relined and still are not perfect. It was a relatively low milage car, but after 17 years in a shed, it needed a lot of work to get running well again. I think if you store a car, you really need to run it frequently and actually use all the components and regularly change all its vital fluuids. Otherwise it is worse than a high milage driven frequently car in my humble opinon. Cheers Chris
  17. George, I have here a copy of the service manual and nissan parts catalogue for the 240Z. The weight is only listed (as far as i can tell) as being 1025kg (2260lb). However there is a weight listing for the HLS30-U(Canadian/American LHD 240z?) as being 1044kg (2300lb) not sure if it helps, but if it does I can scan and email you a copy of the relevant page. Just to muck it up even fu rther, I have a brochure for the Australian 240Z's listing the weight as 2260.00lbs. Maybe its time for a rear light and compliance plate change, and we have ourselves a 260? The guys at motor vehicle registry don't have the rep for being the sharpest knives in the drawer.

Nissan hey, well you better stop buying parts for the Z, and give it to me to remove the temptation.
  19. I hope that is the case for you, and it can be sorted out. But surely to re rego it, they would have changed all the identity plates and firewall numbers? Or do the compliance plate and the firewall disagree? I really hope it works out

240's are hard to get in Australia, but then so are the 260 2 seaters. I paid 900 for the heap that you can see in my avtar (was complete and running at the time, no rego, with a fair amount of rust). If budget is really tight, a 260 2+2 would be the way to go, in many peoples opinion not as nice, but this is reflected in the price, and an ok one can be had for a couple of grand, when a 2 seater in similar condition would cost at least twice that much. Good luck finding one, If you're in melbourne or sydney, you have a fair chance, anywhere else and you need to travel to melbourne or sydney to pick one up. Cheers Chris
  21. I've been talking to the body shop, and he says whatever you do, try to avoid reskinning a door, and unless the car is currently together for a testfit its not a feasble option. But he also agrees that my door is beyond saving, so I shall keep looking. Thanks

According to the net "LIQUID WRENCH Lubricates, Protects, "it drives the moisture away"." So i can only assume it is their equivelant to WD40 or CRC? Now I have a question, has anyone heard of a molasses tank for cleaning and de-gunking car parts? It was mentioned in passing by an old chap, and it didn't really sink in till i was on the train home, is there another type of molasses as opposed to the stick sugary stuff?
  23. I can't help you with finding a 260Z 2 seater shell or bits, but if you do happen to find a shell, could i have first dibs on the LHS door (my 240 one is shot) should you happen to find one soon, I'll be in melbourne over easter. Good luck with your hunt Cheers Chris
  24. Surely you'd just knock that one up in the back shed from a sheet of MDF, and whack a layer of carpet on it if it worked well? However has anyone used the removable pod style speakers you see on some parcel shelves?
