  1. That is a really nice survivor!! Love the color too.
  2. Beautiful pictures of a beautiful car. Nice job on both counts!!
  3. Yes it is. I knew Don back in the day when he was featured in a magazine article following his racing career. I believe he was a member of this site back then as well.
  4. I think that car belongs to a guy I used to work with many years ago. He was a racer and lived in the Rockford area.
  5. I know pricing on these cars has changed a lot of over the last 2-3 years or so, but $8K sounds like a lot for a car with that much rust. If it was driven for 8 years before being taken off the road, that could be 158K on it. He mentioned that he picked it up a year ago, so it is really a 2 owner car. I did a rusty Z once. I am not sure I want to do it again, unless I got an unbelievable deal on it.
  6. That is a couple of hours away from me. We don't see many 240Z's for sale around here. For all you bodywork guys, how bad does that rust look to you? Are the quarter repair panels even available anymore? How about the rocker and dogleg panels? I actually have a rocker replacement panel on the shelf. I don't do bodywork myself, so I would have to hire that out and a paint job. But hey, for the price of a dresser, it might be worth it!
  7. Those fixtures should light it up pretty well, and you have natural light from the windows too. I have 24 fixtures at 3810 lumens each. My wife said' "what, do you want it bright enough for surgery in there?" I said "Exactly!!!" I don't think you can go too bright. I have my lights on 3 zones, so I can turn some of them off if I want to. Mine is about perfect.
  8. Looks like it is moving along nicely. What kind of lighting are you putting in?
  9. I believe I found them on Ebay, but that was many years ago.
  10. I have had 2 cars with the series 1 transmissions. You can replace the rubber shifter bushing with an aluminum or delrin bushing and it takes the slop right out of it.
  11. Ok, the suspense is killing me. What kind of power did you get? It sounds really good.
  12. It certainly is in great shape. I remember the Levis interior from back in the day.
  13. Welcome Tom. That is a really nice Z, in one of the best colors. I am a little partial since my car started life in 903 blue, with a blue interior. That is an impressive collection you have there. The one that intrigues me is the Gremlin. There must be a story behind that one. Marty
  14. Looks like you are making good progress. You are doing a lot of the right stuff. High ceilings are a must have.
  15. Thanks. Old #74 is a real hoot to drive at the track. It is hiding a Coyote motor, built to Illumintor specs.
  16. Well, with all this extra time at home, I was able to get the barn organized. I bought some warehouse pallet racking shelves. They are super strong, rated at 1,800 lbs per shelf. I was able to get all of my spare parts stored on them. My 2 spare engines are on rollers and shoved under the bottom shelf. My other storage cabinets are in the other corner. I finally have a good amount of space opened up in the middle to actually do some work in there.. My HVAC guys had double hernia surgery, so the heater is on hold at at least May. Next up, I need to build a work bench. I will have to put some thought in to that. I saw a You tube video that shows you how to build one, which looked pretty nice. I'll have to check out some other options.
  17. Hey, congrats on getting started! What are your plans? How big are you going? Are you building in added ceiling height for a lift? Any other goodies in the plan?
  18. Well that will take care of that. Nice little fleet you have there.
  19. Your Z looks pretty lonely in there! It needs a couple of stable mates to keep it company.
  20. I was not about to attempt installing it myself. It took a crew of 3-4 guys 2 1/2 days to do the job. The sheets are pretty heavy.
  21. Well, the ceiling and insulation are finally done. I have been trying to get that scheduled since September. The guys are a little frustrating, but they do really nice work. Here are a few pictures, so you can be the judge. Over the weekend, I was able to get the rest of the lights installed and working. I have 24 LED lights at 3810 lumens each. The lighting is just about perfect. It is really bright and clear, with no shadows or dark spots anywhere in the shop. I am really happy with the way that turned out. My HVAC guy just had a double hernia operation, so he won't be able to put the heater in for 6-8 weeks. Another delay, but at least I can move forward with getting the place organized now.
  22. I 'll take the cash. You can find a realllllly nice 240Z with a little more miles and still have a ton of cash left over. Even if you spent $50K on it. I would be afraid to drive a 21K mile car. What is the fun in that!!!!
  23. That's what I have. You should be in pretty good shape, with several options.
  24. How high are your ceilings? They are making a lot of low profile lifts now that can fit in most garages. However the higher you can lift the car, the better. Right now, I am considering a 2-post BendPak 7,000lb lift.
  25. 1500' is a really good size garage. You will be able to fit a lot of stuff in there. A friend of mine has a 1550" hanger and I am impressed with the amount of stuff he can cram in there. I am retiring in about 10 months myself. I can't wait to have time to do the things I really want to do.
