  1. Pictures of the Hyundai side marker lights are posted at: One picture shows a marker temporarily installed to show almost flush fit. As with most Zs, mine has been a never ending work in progress........ for the last 45 years. When I got the Hyundai lenses, my plan was to use them. I have since picked up a set of Datsun markers with clear lenses and colored bulbs that I'll probably eventually use after new paint. Sorry for the picture and partial install quality, but it's a hot day in the desert and I didn't spend as much time getting the perfect shot as I could have a couple months ago. Dennis

Hyundai Exel side markers fit fairly flush on the Z. Connections are compatible with existing Z wiring. Mounting holes are a bout 1/8 inch farther apart than Z marker lights, so one new screw hole must be drilled in the Z fender.
  3. Welcome to the group! Looks like the making of a good project. For clarification, what do you mean when you say, "it's extremely solid"? No rust? Dennis
  4. $1227 final bid. Reserve not met. Dennis
  5. Hyundai Exel side markers. They have the same wire connectors at the Z, so plug in easily. The mounting screw holes are about 1/8 inch farther apart than the Z holes, so one new hole needs to be drilled. They fit flat on the fender and only protrude the thickness of the lens - about 1/4 inch. I'm currently away from home but will take pictures when I get back. Dennis
  6. It's nice to have markers. If you don't like the protruding Datsun stock markers, you can use front and rear side marker lights from a '90s vintage Hyundai which fit nicely in the existing space and are fairly flush to the body panels. Dennis
  7. Sounds like a perfect plan. Enjoy the Z! Dennis
  8. No problem. I run an electric pump on my '71 and have removed the mechanical pump. Are you having startup problems with the stock pump configuration? Dennis
  9. No new bids in the last 24 hours. I sense lurkers waiting to pounce in the final seconds. Dennis
  10. Seems like a give-away price. Curious about it being on eBay as well as CL It will certainly go for more than $2500 on eBay. Dennis
  11. Now, all you need is a poster to print that message on. It will sell millions of copies for years. You'll be wealthy beyond your wildest dreams! Dennis
  12. Used covers with "replacement" mounting hardware, reserve not met, and days to go before the bidding ends. This should be fun to watch. Dennis
  13. When you see lots of visible rust coming through the paint, beware of what you don't see. As others have said, not a $14K car. For that money, you could do better. Dennis
  14. Thanks for sharing that information. My pleasure. The gas tank in the Avanti sits between the trunk and the back of the back seat and above the differential with the filler on the "C" pillar. In a rear ender, the tank won't get pushed into the differential and punctured as with the infamous flaming Pinto. As we like to say about our Avantis, they were ahead of their time for 1963 - even came with seatbelts and a built in roll bar for crash protection. Dennis
  15. For the sake of Pinto history accuracy, the fuel filler was on the left rear fender. The problem with the fires in accidents had to do with lack of protective structure around the gas tank and tank location that allowed it to burst on rear impact. Court cases referenced the 1963 Studebaker Avanti as an example of the correct way to place and protect the tank for cars of that era to avoid external combustion. Dennis
  16. As the Bard sort of said, "To buy, or not to buy. That is the question." It's always the question. The Z looks good if it doesn't adversely impact your personal or financial life. On the other hand, it's really easy to acquire too many projects. Ask me how I know. Dennis
  17. Yup, that's probably a better use of your dollars. The total cost of my Z was actually $4,200 as I had to pay above sticker to move to the top of the waiting list and not wait nine months for a car. The good old days. Dennis
  18. For perspective, keep in mind that 46 years ago $3.7K was about six months' pay at my reasonably good job. Today, I could buy a nicely optioned 2017 370Z for a little less than six months pay. So, it's all relative. BTW, if you're paying that much for a bucket of......... in 2017, I can get it for you a little cheaper Dennis
  19. November 1971.... St. Paul, Minnesota. I had just returned from living in the Philippines for a year and a half and needed a car. I had taken a new Pontiac Gran Prix SJ to the Philippines and sold it there before I left. On a stop in Tokyo on the way back to the States, I saw a Fairlady on display in a window on the Ginza. A lasting memory. While I had considered getting a Volvo 1800 or a Lotus when I returned, the 240Z was just too unique and exciting to pass up. Unfortunately, at that time, there was a nine month waiting list for 240Zs at every Datsun dealership. However, I found a dealership that allowed me to buy my way to the top of the waiting list and drive off in a new 1971 Datsun 240Z for just 15% over sticker price. Now, 46 years later, that Z is parked in my driveway and if it wasn't 110º outside, I'd take it for a spin. Dennis
  20. Andrew, where are you?
  21. Do a Google search for "1973 Appliance slotted mags" and you'll see lots of them. Popular wheel for many types of cars in that era. Dennis
  22. Don't forget a CB antenna to complete that 70s vibe Breaker, breaker, this is Z-Dog lookin' for Smokies. Dennis
