  1. I've been away for quite awhile as I sold my 71 Racing Green 240z about 3 years ago and I've been regretting it since. Last week I was perusing Craigslist and found a car local to me that I went and checked out. Needless to say, it's an AMAZING Garage/Barn find!!! Been parked under cover in the same garage since 1997. 2nd owner since 1975 and the seller knows the original owner. Paint is completely original, interior is completely original, as is everything else except the owner put on some weber downdrafts shortly before parking it. ZERO rust and in amazing condition. I am so stoked and can't wait to get her home cleaned up and running again. It's a Lime Yellow '73 btw. I'll post some pics when I get them downloaded.

More progress made over the long weekend. I got the new shift boot for the center console, so I installed the boot and the console. The console looks great, choke is hooked up, now it's time to start addressing the electrical. I did get the alternator cleaned up and installed. It is the original alternator, so hopefully it still works. I did opt for a new voltage regulator as those seem to be a bit more critical. I got the final fuel hoses attached to the fuel tank. Also got the fuel gauge sensor cleaned up, checked out and installed. The breather hose is from zcardepot. It was $16, way cheaper than Motorsports $75 tube and looks just the same. The braid is very similar to the radiator hose braid. Also attached the front bumper, but only temporarily. Still waiting for the bumperette rubber to come in. Here are the pics
  3. ah I see the easy to get exp valve. Yea if it was mine I would replace that as well. and try to flush the evap. My recommendation to the OP is to take it to several shops, try to find one that has been in business at the same location for a long while, get some written estimates, then report back to the group before committing to anything. You don't have to go with the 1st person that looks at it.
  4. Just curious, did this just start happening when you sealed the air intake chimney under the cowl? Was there nothing attached to that like a blower or something? If so, what would happen if you unsealed that vent? Just seeing what sticks. My 77' came with a very long tailpipe to get past the huge bumper. I have no bumper at the moment and a very short tailpipe. No fumes. But I do have all new gaskets in the rear…..

The weather was bad, but I gave it a try.. turned out dry there Lucky ! I also met Eurodat ( Chas ) @ Japan Classic Sunday..
  6. Yesterday the low fuel light came on, I drove the gas station, indicator right at about 1/8th, 5 gallons to get to 1/2, 10 gallons to get to 3/4 and 14 gallons to fill (after restarting twice after 1st shut off. So I looks like the gauge tracks pretty well and give me prob 2 gallons left (say a gallon that never gets used) when the low fuel light comes on. I feel pretty good about the calibration now. Now that I trust my fuel indicator I am one step closer to a road trip.
  7. having a problem up loading pics for some reason.....most likely operator error.....this teaser will have to do...
  8. Since its not factory anyway, the best thing would be to just replace EVERYTHING forward of the firewall and hope the evap is ok. Would be a good idea to remove the expansion valve (do not need to pull the evap to do that IF its a factory evaporator). Clean it, replace O rings check it for function. Button up the evap with cleaned expansion valve then all new stuff. I am saying this cause if you want a reliable AC that pretty much what you will need to do. I do things in stages but that's cause I can do the work myself, but that is not the best for all folks. edit on removal of the exp valve, SHOULD be able to remove with out pulling the evap BUT if its in there and stuck from lack of use, it could be a problem getting out of the housing. Based on what I have seen, its likely that you could have corrosion in there as well.
  9. Thanks for all the rain. I could be wrong, but I do think that each Z has a life of their own. Since RedBird has been "well loved and cared for" in Scottsdale for most of her life and I'm working at continuing that lifestyle, perhaps she will do well beyond the expected. But who am I to say anything against your eons of working on these Z cars? You are most likely right. I'm just a great optimist in love with my Z. I guess we will just have to wait and see, eh? Oh my, hope I don't have to eat those words. Love sure makes us say and do silly things. Tee hee...
