  1. Just got off the phone with the previous owner. Sounds like there is bad blood between him and Hosomi, but I think I got to the bottom of the mystery, kinda. To make a long story short, kelvin had a high compression build on the car E88 head with cam on a L24 block. The L24 block failed him. He shipped the car to hosomi, from what I gather hosomi sold him this F54 block that I have now that caused too high of compression with the E88 head with cam. This caused DETONATION. Kelvin shipped the car back to hosomi and hosomi put a metal head gasket in? And shipped it back. He told kelvin the blowby was normal. Kelvin didn't like how the car was running and bought a rebuilt P79 head from Zcar source Arizona...ran out of money and sold the car to me. Yay! Kelvin said he will send me receipts and emails to prove this correspondence between him and hosomi. Kelvin swears up and down he didn't touch the block after hosomi built it. The Pistons in there are the ones that hosomi put in, and they're not ITM as he says. To be honest I'm over it. The car is mine. Nothing is going to be done about any of this anyways. I ate the 1300$ that it cost to put new Pistons in it and I'm fine with that. I just hope that like someone else said, it's not too sloppy inside the cylinders after multiple honing done.
  2. I agree Jim, we seem to be loosing the really knowledgeable people. I guess this is bound to happen as time goes on but that doesn't really help much. Make the most of everyday and let the people around you know you care. By the way guys, I care....you all have a great day!
  3. We currently have the best possible spring weather with nice temperatures and blue skies. So Istead of researching the specs of my Z in front of the computer i decided to rather do some physical work in front of my garage. Has been a while since i did some work there . This is how the garage currently looks with no chassis inside Got straight to work with removing the springs using my new spring compression tools and some high-tech stuff The reason why is, because i wanted to do some measurements on the original springs to get some specs which still are missing. You'll see in a following post, once i have all my data. still need to remove the dampers... While at the garage i remembered i never actually checked if the second motor is turning so i tested it and it turns brilliantly. Perfect More to come soon
  4. if you mean the large one that attaches to the back of the air filter housing, it's essentially always open to the atmosphere - just inside the line of the filter, which is irrelevant from a vacuum standpoint. unlike the efi system, the carbs can't see any pressure/vacuum other than what runs through them or the intake manifolds/balance tube.
  5. I'd be curious of how the bores looked. Standard bore in 2 rebuilds? Honed several times makes for s sloppy fit . Sloppy fit no good. I would ask for numbers since the mechanic was so emphatic that he checked. what is the piston , bore clearance now? glad you are back rolling
  6. Still wondering how the ring fragments got past the skirt tops. There's no path. Pistons aren't ITM. Where'd they come from? Does Datsun Spirit keep records of the block serial numbers? Each one is unique. Might offer a clue. In the long run, doesn't matter much to zmano. It does leave open questions about the other two parties though. Hate to say.
  7. I hope the mechanic checked bore size and didn't just assume that STD was correct. There are some breaks in the assumed sequence of events, like the assumption that this is a Datsun Spirit engine. STD of the ITK pistons could be STD for a different engine. Or they are STD for an L28 but the bore isn't STD. Apparently loose pistons can slap and break. There's a bunch of Jeep forum comments on skirt breakage. Whatever the cause, the dimensions should be checked before reassembly. I don't see any numbers in previous posts.
  8. It's actually called..... GoodAss Beer. White & Black can, available in 6 pack's. Flying off the shelves right now.
  9. Just out of the paint booth! Not yet sanded and buffed. She's currently on her way to upholstry for a full clean, seat repair, antenna, install of soundproof padding throughout... Too much to list. I'll keep you posted as the progress continues! Such fun! K The lil z lady
  10. Tomorrow i finaly found some time to bring my car home from the engine builder. Hoping for a great 180km drive home and then i guess ill have to put another 300km before i let it climb up in the higher rpms. Timeing is set at 19 at idle and shows 36 at 3500 rpms and No detonation issues.
