  1. Just for fun, and a reason to study one of these excellent Nissan drawings. As I understand things, it's possible to adjust the MC rod so far forward that the return hole to the reservoir, which also releases pressure, is never opened. Brakes are bled cold, fluid heats up and expands, the pads and shoes are moved, car is slowed. I highlighted the two holes that can get covered. Never had it happen to me but it seems feasible and has been reported. You can see how the piston seals are right next to the holes, so that pressure is created as soon as the pistons move.
  2. you people frighten me. i'm just a simple carb-man... your ways are strange. why does this thread make me feel so completely dim and yet i'm so strangely attracted to it - like road kill: can't look away!! i have nothing of value to add here, other than wide-eyed awe at the thinking going on. i guess it's just the crazy creativity driven by a passion to problem-solve. love it!
  3. +1 it's often difficult to understand actual production costs in low-volume delivery. the tooling for a ball-point pen can run into the heavy 6 figures, yet production in the millions makes the unit cost so negligible that most people won't bend down to pick one up on the street. make 10 custom ball-point pens from scratch wand they would be hundreds of dollars each (at best). high quality, low-volume reproductions are rarely a money-maker for anyone, they are most often a labor of love where the fabricator simply wants to make a part that is otherwise unavailable and once the tooling is made the parts are offered to other like-minded folks as a service. i've produced a few parts and offered them to forum friends (in the motorcycle world) and run into the same issue.
  4. If you are attending, please email me ( philip@atlanticz.ca) with your email, hotel and cell phone at the conference. I'll put together a list and distribute via email to improve confidentiality (compared to posting this stuff on the forum). Maybe we can also organize an informal coffee, lunch, supper, drinks at a multi-purpose room at the hotel etc. First annual CZCC event?
  5. Took her out for her maiden voyage with new hitch, trailer and engine. Made it around the block, and out for a 120km drive tomorrow to my friends where the swap will happen this weekend. Wish me luck. This picture makes me all tingly inside.
  6. Anytime an individual invests the molding / fabrication / design dollars to reproduce something like this, given the low volume, the price is going to be high. Each item sold must contribute to cost recovery (direct and R&D) and when volumes are low, the rate is high- not to mention factoring in a provision for profit. I recently had a tool made to be used in a shop press to allow for the original mustache bar bushing sleeves to be bent over the mustache bar eyelets in the right original shape...without tearing the sleeve. I had several extra tools made but could likely never sell them at a price folks would think reasonable. It is just how it is with low volume. Personally, I am just thrilled that 240zrubber is around and some of the rubber items they provide are available.
  7. I'm calling it a day until after ZCON. Have some things to do other than the Zs, and I need to look at some different cars other than mine. BORED

Folks, It's been awhile since I've posted and thought I'd fill you racing enthusiasts in on what we've achieved so far. Since the January Majors races in Florida I've done quite a bit of tweaking to the car. The engine that was in the car definitely was having some problems. In the 2.4 trim, which I expect to run at the September National Championship race in Daytona, we broke the track record by 2 seconds in a recent regional race. Granted we really haven't been to Daytona with this level of equipment since 2009, where we had the old lap record. Now we are solidly in the 2:04 range, which is an above 100mph average. When the rest of the E Production guys come to Daytona in September, I expect that record to fall again. I suppose in a good draft, the BMW's and the Prelude will be in the 2:03 range somewhere. We have reliability and track experience on our side for the upcoming race, although the track is very easy to learn quickly. I test for the last time in August, then will do a final preparation to the car for the Runoffs. I expect to see some of you guys come out. It should be a great race! All the best, Greg Ira
  9. So the guy at Autozone says " how many thermostat gaskets did you say you needed?"
