  1. I've struggled with what type of antenna to replace the broken original with. I first tried an 11" rubber ducky that didn't work very well, as well as a hidden antenna that mounted to the window; again not working too well. I decided it was time to investigate how to repair or replace the old semi-automatic antenna that Datsun included originally. The great feature of the Datsun antenna is that it is controlled by the radio head unit with a switch, allowing the driver (or passenger) the ability to raise or lower the antenna to the proper level to tune in stations. The original Datsun antenna had a modulator box already installed that allowed the switch to power one wire for up, the other for down, and use the body of the antenna for a ground; this is how the switch works too. The modern semi-automatic that I sourced just reverses the polarity to have it go up and down. I was able to find a diagram of a door lock actuator that would allow me to use the original Datsun radio switch and wiring while making the new antenna work by means of two relays. Essentially reversing the polarity of the output wires. The results are great! I can accurately tune into any station in my '72 240z's radio that I can in a modern car with a digital tuner (meaning the antenna performs as good). 2. I should have been more specific. I should have said... If the car hasn't been modified by a previous owner, then the electric fuel pump is mounted on a bracket back by the tank. Now, of course, if a previous owner mounted a second electric fuel pump up in the engine compartment and wired it in somehow, then there's no telling what electrical modifications he preformed to make that possible. As for the mystery connector in question, take a look at the upper left hand corner of the 260 wiring diagram. There's a connector with yellow wires that says "To Pressure Sw." And take a look at pages AC-5 AC-12 and AC-13 of the 260 FSM. They talk about the high pressure cut-off switch there. No telling if that's what that connector is for NOW, but I think it was ORIGINALLY for the AC system.
  3. siteunseen, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with a zip-tied AFM cover, ::
  4. It took a while for me to get to it but-- here is a photo of the air cleaner I refinished for my 73 240Z (yes, I converted to 3 screw round top carbs) using Steve Nixon's reproduction gaskets mentioned above. I am very satisfied with the gaskets---they are identical to the originals in profile. I found I needed to cut them with a razorblade to shorten the overall length by about 3/8", as in a test fit they were a little large. I used Dap Weldwood contact cement. (in the small 3 ounce glass bottle with an attached brush applicator in the cap---it was a perfect sized brush for applying the cement to the housing and to the gasket) Your experience may vary, but I cut away all of the old gaskets and had the housings blasted to remove all of the old paint, then hand sanded with 400 grit silicon carbide paper. Wipe down with wax and grease remover several times, let dry and rattle can spray with Dupli-Color DE1607 Chev. Orange Engine Enamel (It appears identical to the original color--a deep red/orange) Let the paint dry for several days to harden or the contact cement will soften the paint and cause wrinkling. Decals are to come from Banzai Motorworks---- www.zzxdatsun.com I hope this helps anyone restoring their air cleaner. Steve's gaskets are not cheap, but they are perfect, and again he has reproduced a discontinued part that can not be found anywhere else. Thank you Steve! Jim D. "Zup"

I quit riding when I had little kids. My wife didn't like being left behind and both of us riding seemed foolish for our kids. I don't enjoy it any more. I've been hit too many times and too many close calls. I hope you enjoy the car...
  6. Pretty cool mini documentary.
  7. At a drive in movie with the Z and many other classics.
  8. For a long time I've been planning to spruce up area in front of the rad in my car as it has been neglected for a long time. So today was the day, mainly old grime and overspray from a 35 year old re paint. The horns and wiring harness cleaned up OK. Before.... And after....
  9. Polished and Waxed her. Too bad the image upload completely distorted the shot. It was a gorgeous shot.
