It was $50 Aussie for 5kg, it was just in a polystyrene cooler, and I used my welding gloves to handle it. 5kg was just enough to do all the flat surfaces

I’ve been on a bit of a roll lately working on the car. It feels really good to actually be making some progress. 2/3 more days and the car will be ready for the blaster.

today I wrapped up the bracing. I added reinforcements to the rocker panel and tied that into the main brace, then tied the roof corners to the main brace. It might be overkill but I already paid for the steel a long time ago so figured I might as well use it….

the blaster is gonna hate me though… i hope he’s a skinny fellow…

also had a bit of extra time so started unpicking the dodgy bros repairs on the rear slam panel. Mmmm crunchy….

A bit scary to see..  lots of scaffolding/bracing haha.. remember you have to make all parts fit before painting, then you can see what fit's what doesn't, you make a lot of braces but i think it just a lot of unnecessary work..

I hope the car.. what's left of it...   doesn't scare you to much when it comes back from the blaster!

no one has seen the car in person and how damn rusty she is. 

I’m removing a lot of the main panels that provide structural rigidity to the body before I send it to the blaster, so I don’t see it as unnecessary, I see it as insurance.

Cheap insurance. No one can say what the strength is of the chassis currently and that the rear quarter panel will remove 5% rigidity to the RHS. No one really knows. So if I waste some 25mm SHS and a couple of days so be it.

im not very optimistic about what will come back from the blaster…

I don’t think so, I believe they are the original floors, the line you see is the line where the sound deadening finished

I'm asking myself what you mean by that.. I guess i see that one of these days then..?

Yeah your right, if the construction gets to weak then it's better to brace it..

I'm curious how far you go with the removing of parts...

Im planning to remove the roof skin, both rear quarters, complete rear beaver/valance panel, and I will be cutting majority of the rocker panels open, not that theres much left to cut....

this way internal structures can be blasted and coated properly. 

Im planning to hopefully get brand new quarters from KFVJDM, i will need to get a mortgage for shipping to australia......😬

even cars from dry states that dont have much visible rust are rusting on the inside, so for me i want to ensure the internal structures are done, i don't want to take shortcuts and then have rust pop through my new paint job a couple of years later.... do it once, do it right.

Yeah i know, my 240z came from california and had 2 x 2,5mm steel floor parts.. weight about 25 kg (55Lbs) ! Hahaha..  "they"  had repaired the floor with steel... reel steel haha, i took it out and there was about 50 kg steel on the floor, put some 1mm steel sheet in and that's 22 years ago this year..  It's still good but it needs some new paint under there.. maybe next year..
