Hi,

I'm trying my hand at restoring a steering wheel and can't determine the function of this metal ring. It is a little rusty but I can't seem to remove it (that woild be nice) but if it doesnt matter I will leave it as is.

Soak the whole assembly in EvapoRust.

It holds the padded horn "button" in place.

it's actually a spring. Like CG said it fits into a groove in the horn pad to keep it on the wheel.

Completely disolved the ring. I see the kits around $60 on-line. If you have a used one for less please let me know.

Found replacement on-line but expensive.

How did you dissolve the ring?

Did you use EvapoRust or some kind of acid?  In any case you need a new one, I'll have a look through my stuff, I might have one.
