You're avoiding the point now.  If you know a thing or two, show it, don't talk about it.  You're the one who claims to know, not me.  lol

I'm the one that the one that spoke with 2furtyzee. He asked me what condition Z" Im looking and what was my budget. I told him I prefer a "rust free" 240z or mostly rust free . Who's not . Well he proceeded to tell me how the price had gone up on 240zs and for $3000 I would be have to consider a shell or something with rust needing a lot of work. He also told me that he's been buying and selling Z's for 5 years and has a good understanding. of the market. I than told I maybe will to up my budget some for the right. I told the ideal car would be something complete that have been sitting a while, that I can get back on the roads  after of course , going thought the car to make it road worthy and car driver for a few years before doing any restoration. He told me he car that may work and wanted to know what I would pay for the car. Asked him to tell me more about the car. He went on to say the was a series 1 240z, blue on blue. (I have been looking for this combo for a while) rust free that has been off the roads for 15 years but was complete enough to get running in a matter of a couple of weeks worth of work. He did say the car was missing a few non critical parts ash tray, heater control panel and such. Than he told the car had a dent on the passenger side. and he wanted $5500 for the car. My interest was peeked. He told me  that he was considering placing the car on Bring a trailer. I asked for pictures. He sent me a few pictures , but did not include a picture of the " Dent". After viewing the first set of pictures. I was interested and asked for pictures of the interior and the dent in the rear quarter panel. He sent me the rest of the pictures as you can cleary that the damage was more than a dent.

I told him thanks and I would keep looking. I would have bought the car if it wasn't in a wreak.  I know the price have gone up on the 240z, but I'm sure  I can find a better car for $5500.  I'm  not despret for a 240z, I have three very nice " RUST FREE"  240Z'S all California car.

What is the point of that story? Sounds like you are not interested and told him!

Did I miss something?

The point of dat240z71's story is in post #27 and those that follow.  Pretty funny.  Dent.  Thanks dat.

That dented "Series 1" car might actually be worth $5500 or more.  What's the VIN?  I'm guessing that 2fourtyzee was still offended from being turned down, hence the tude.

AV8's CL post looks like a good deal.

Never did i say the car was "dented", i was honest and straight forward about the car i was considering selling.. i told him it was very rust free and that it had an accident on the passenger side quarter.. i find it funny how he changes words with dented lol.. this isnt my first Z, i have collected, sold, scrapped, dismantled many Z cars and i know that the majority of them have some serious rust.  im not offended one bit.. it isnt like 240z prices are going down.. if i dont get my asking price today or tomorrow eventually within a year or two ill get my asking price and more.. good honest Z cars are becoming difficult to find as we all know.. if time permits i wouldnt mind fixing the car and enjoying it myself.  i wish you all the best in finding a good car for those still looking to have one, ive already got a few nice ones, and im finding more and more z cars every couple of weeks.

I wouldn't be surprised if the car was worth $5,500. If it is truly rust free, I would rather deal with the quarter damage than lots of rusty metal!

if time permits, ill fix the quarter and throw a nice paint job, put some nice clean interior and finish it off and sell it for much more than that. i have to agree that i would rather stay away from rust than a simple quarter panel replacement. it just takes time and some money.  the car is very solid. reason as to why i purchased it.

I don't know what your experience is but the repair on your blue 70/240z will be considerably more involved than just replacing the quarter panel and if not done right the first time will really bring down the value of the car.  The damaged area extends from the D/S rear corner diagonally across to the P/S  B pillar just behind the door and may have bent the subframe that the P/S rear suspension hangs from.  It's a big job that really should be handled by a body shop that specializes in frame straightening, some of the newest systems have racks that can bring a car back to spec with in a couple of millimeters.

Other than the rear corner damage the car is a gem just waiting to be polished,  if the engine matches and you weren't on the other side of the continent I would give you $5,500 without hesitation, it has great potential.

Still looking for a car! Send listings! Condition doesn't matter. Preferably in the midwest, but I'm willing to travel anywhere.

Found a 280z in great shape. Has rebuilt a V8 in it. No body rust. Interior in good shape except the seats are rough, guy said he wants 8k but might take less. He just sold two 260z’s f2ad4cad1d7d8d741b3a3a337666ecf1.jpgec778ffaf70845071ae25f9e7a9cc0a9.jpgd183148e386a375d10f87d78bdf0f5af.jpgfor 3K each and we’re both shipped to Germany. Location is Billings Montana. I’ve seen the car in person and took these pics three days ago.
