1973 Rebuild

Recommended Posts

Good news:

Thanks to the kindness and generosity of a fellow forum member I may have found the resolution to my tank saga.

Also, I am moving forward with reconditioning that head this week. Should have a progress report on that in the next week or so.

Lastly, my builder (father) and I have had several conversations with Dave at Rebello about what to do with this ZX engine. We've settled on the details and the only outstanding question is how much wear there is on the crank, and whether that will move is into stroker territory.

Bad news:

I noticed that my brake system is leaking in a few places in the engine bay. No big deal until I noticed that the leak coming from the connection point between the master cylinder and the vacuum booster has gone down between the firewall panels and through the seam to the inside of the left wheel well.

This, plus not being able to get into a couple of places to adequately strip the metal before welding in these panels means that I have decided to take the car into a body shop sooner rather than later.

Thinking September/October now rather than February.

Question: are the rear lower control arms supposed to be identical, or did someone just flip one over and use it on the wrong side of my car?

A quick google image search shows me that they are the same part and it's just upside down on one side, but I want to make absolutely certain. Did I answer my own question?

I would have if they had not been disconnected when I bought the car. :/

It will be part of the rewrapping project.

Good luck!  It'll be an uphill battle.  I think I have built my car 4 or 5 times (trial and error) partly because I didn't label things real well.

Shifting gears for a minute while I do research and continue dismantling the car, I thought I would go back to the topic of paint. I have this thread going on the subject of non-s30 Datsun colors, but it didn't get any tractions, so I'll stick it in here.

Right now I am leaning in 3 directions: Orange, Grey, or Silver. Within those 3 are tons of options, but my main dilemma is… ORIGINAL or NOT ORIGINAL?
Here's some pretty stuff I've been looking at:

Aston Martin's Madagascar Orange (Also on Land Rovers I think)

If it is to be driven often, I'd go with the 918 orange. Everyone loves it, it's easy to repair and I wouldn't have to deal with flake or pearl.

If it is to be garaged and shown as Z porn, Aston Martin's Madagascar Orange would be stunning on a Z.
