Hi, I've reached the carb set up stage of my restoration now. I've got a colour tune and a uni-syn so I started with trying to balance air flow. I set the uni-syn so the front carb bought the little float up to around the centre mark of the tube and then tried the rear carb and it's not even registering on the uni-syn at all. I would screw in the throttle screw but at the moment the rpm is really high even though I've got both individual throttle screws backed out all the way, and the screw on the main throttle linkage is also backed off all the way. I read somewhere to check for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner so I will try that tomorrow but I was wondering if someone co…

Walmart had one so I bought them both, G3 & G2. G3 is 3/8's G2 is 5/16's. My 280 tank has a bigger supply so the G3 is it but on the 240 it's 5/16's and the G2 fit like a mother's hug, lovingly tight!

My past experience has been with British car SUs so that may be confusing me. I acquired my 1972 Z a few months ago and have been trying to fix several things the PO did not fix. One is the front carb is causing the first three plugs to become black and gummed up. When I clean the plugs they are black again after about 100 miles. The back plugs are a fine light grey color. In the past my British cars were leaned out by tightening the jet up to the needle. In all the three repair manuals I have for the Datsun, on carbs they focus on the air adjustments. With a Unisync I see both carbs are drawing the same amount of air so I think that adjustment is okay. When I reach…

I am at my wit's end on my racecar. I cannot get my SU fluel levels to set right. Both bowls are 5mm low no matter what I do to the floats, valves, or pressure. I've tried everything I can think of, but I am now out of time. I leave for a race on Thursday afternoon and I have no confidence that I will get it to run right. I'm looking to borrow a set of known good SU carbs that I can have overnighted to me right away. I'd have them for about 1 week. After my race, I plan to send mine to ZT if I can't solve the problem, but for now, I need something that works. I just built a 2.8" 9.5:1 motor with a mild cam that should make about 175 RWHP, but it won't do me any good…

So I'm out running errands this morning when the ZTherapy phone in my pocket starts ringing. It's a nice gentleman from the Campbell California NISSAN dealership saying he's cleaning out a whole bunch of clutter and among that clutter is at least one box of SU carb parts and would we like to have them. No charge he'd just box it up and send it. In the age of diminishing availability of this stuff, this was like a breath of fresh air. Any of you CA South Bayers, so disposed, poke your head into the parts department and give 'em a big atta boy. Any of you out there who feel you missed our deadline for the core return shoot me an email. We can use them. Just trying to kee…

I just recently glass beaded my SU's plus sent all the hardware for zinc plating. I dont know can you call that a rebuild but anyhow. I tried to start the engine and first i did not notice anything until it made couple loud POP's. Then i went to see and saw it was squirting fuel everywhere. Mainly from that big bolt on float bowl. Does it have some sort of gasket or o-ring? cause i dont have any.. It leaks like crazy and i cannot start the engine. Also, what would be the best settings to start the car, as i have dismantled and rebuilt carbs. Jet up or down or something between? I have FSM and unisyn but first i need to get it running and warmed up... I really apprec…

Gents, looking for some suggestions on how to fix my rather drastic problem. The float pivot pin split-arm broke off on my DCOE top cover a while back, and naively I thought I could fix it with JB weld. Well, after taking the cover off this afternoon to install a smaller size accelerator pump jet spill valve, I could see my "repair" was right on the verge of failure, and the gas proof formula JB weld peeled right off. Right now I'm on the hunt for a used DCOE top cover, but was wondering if there are any fixes you guys would suggest in the meantime? I'm trying to use red loctite to fuse the part together for now since its supposed to be gas-proof after curing, but I'll…
