Well we just finished a pita job of sound deadening the car. My dad did 99% of the work . Currently my car does not have any stereo equipment but i hope to put in a simple system later on down the road. The sound deadening i used is called Rattle trap made by fatmat. I bought it on eBay; 100sqft shipped for $160. The mat stick very well to all surfaces. Also dont be fooled into thinking that this is a quick job that can be done in 1 afternoon. It take a good bit of time to make sure the surface is clean and ready for application and the pieces are cut well so everything fits together nicely with no wrinkles and huge overlaps at the edges. Here are a few pictures of the …

Has anyone used Too Intense Restoration to recondition their steering wheels? I just noticed they offer this service from $125 - $195 depending on the condition of the steering wheel. I am thinking about having this done. carl

Well, tonight I started to work on replacing the vinyl door panels on my car. Things went ok. Unfortunately the skins I got don't have the correct texture on the center part of the door like the original ones. Originally I was sent the wrong color (black ones) and they were correct but I didn't want to deal with it anymore so I went with what I got. So the actually attachment of the vinyl went fine. For some reason the picture makes them look really wrinkly but they don't look that bad in person. One of the problems I had was finding a replacement door skin with the original chrome strip. One day I was in Pep Boys looking for stuff and stumbled upon this chrome str…

I had my door panels re-covered with a foam backing. Problem is the window crank now drags on the new material. Eventually the window crank will scratch the material. Is there a window crank that will fit and provide some clearence between the crank and the panel? Thanks Miles

I often see the question "how do I mount speakers in my Z". I installed some new 5.25" co-ax speakers in my 240 today, so I though I'd chronicle the process. My design goal was to install modern speakers without encroaching on the foot well area. That requirement calls for cutting into the kick panel to use the area behind the panel. The space behind the kick panel is limited to about 1-1/2" (it's actually 1-3/4", but there is a bolt head for the door bracket that takes up some space - you'll see it in a photo below). Most 5.25" speakers sold today are 1-3/4" to 2-1/2: deep (when front mounting.) The speakers I purchased (Alpine SPS-500) are 2" deep. I could have buil…

Hey everyone, Tomorrow I hope to start installing the interior vinyl in my 240z. I was planning on starting with the wheel well arches in the rear. When I removed the old vinyl years ago, I am pretty sure they were glued down to the metal, not any underlayment. When I dry fit the vinyl, they seem huge with lots of room and bagginess. I have put down a layer of FatMat so I thought it would help some but not appreciably. When you install the vinyl, I assume the spray adhesive is a contact adhesive that you apply to both the arch and the vinyl. Do you turn the vinyl inside out and start from the top and work your way down? How do you deal with the folds and excess sp…

Seems I lost the screw that holds on the fan switch knob. Anyone know the size? We don't have metric fasteners that small at work or in local hardware stores, so I can't find out the easy way by "trial fit".

I have discovered leaking coolant coming from the heater core hoses. Do I need to drain the coolant to replace these hoses? Any other hints would be appreciated Thanks

I thought I would post what I went through to replace the heater control panel on my 72 with a new 73 panel. I am sure others have done. - the 73 panel will fit into the dash opening of the 72 but the 72 parts will not fit onto it - you will need a 73 lever slide bracket - it was too wide to fit into the dash and had to be cut back at one side by my local machinist. - you will need a 73 cowl that goes behind the rotary vent - its slightly different than the 72 - I removed the cables from the 72 bracket and installed them on the the 73 slide bracket. - you will need a 73 fan switch since the 72 is too short to fit through the slide bracket and reach the front of the panel.…

So I noticed as I was putting my new interior in, that the scuff trim on both sides that grabs on to the interior door weatherstrip was rusted and the 'leather look' lamination was coming off. A little research on the part of my buddy Mat here locally after I asked him if he had a spare set in his stash revealed that they are available new from a couple sources and there was a set for sale on eBay in a buy-it-now auction. I grabbed the eBay set as it was $40 cheaper than either MSA or BD. It arrived today and I was somewhat dismayed to discover that the Nissan superceded part is structurally identical but painted instead of laminated with the 'leather look' stuff. I run …

I am building a new track car and decided to use the original heater/vent system... I figured I would give a complete makeover... I started by tearing everything down completely.... Then I sandblasted every nook and cranny... I used self etching primer and 4 coats of metallic black paint... I covered every nook from all angles... It WILL LAST my lifetime... Before!!!! smelled like burning hair and sounded like a rattlesnake... It blew leaves, dirt, and bugs in your face at speed... Repainted inside and out... Honda blower/fan drops in the 240Z snail housing... completed blower unit.... I am waiting on the radiator shop to rebuild my heater core.…

Lastly, I need to make the control nomenclature on the facia match the new functions of the system. I’m going to print new control labels on adhesive backed mylar and cover with clear tape. The place these over the markings on the facia plate. (See pic) I’ll have to paint the embossed “DEF above the bottom control black. This is not finished yet, but it's pretty easy and should look OK.
