My two swiss S30Z Fairlady Restoration build thread
I collected a few parts again, recently. Some stuff which is required to complete the car: First of all, one of those beautifully crafted S30.world reproduction fuel tanks and tank insulation rubbers. I sold mine at the recent japanclassic show, so I had to get a new one for my project. Secondly, I got a NOS euro spec front lower center valance (with the additional installation holes for the euro front spoiler): This means i can finally replace the crappy old one with the one that actually belongs there. Huge thanks to Alan for helping me with this! Then I got one of those original printed Datsun competition parts catalogues. I already have the Japanese versions and had this one digitally, but I always prefer to have the original printed stuff. For those who don't know the competition parts catalogue, it's basically a "sports option" and racing parts catalogue by Nissan themselves: I also got another issue of the "Nissan Star" magazine. It was a Swiss Datsun / Nissan customer magazine, which always has cool insights at how Nissan (Switzerland) operated back in the days. I also randomly came across this "Nissan 50th anniversary" catalogue from Switzerland. It's completely unrelated to my project, but since I have all the original "50th anniversary" badges, I thought it would be cool to have the fitting catalogue to it with the same logo on the front. Things are a bit crazy at work at the moment, so progress is slow, but I hope to jump back in the project soon. I made a major decision to have the car completed by some professionals, otherwise the project will drag on for another decade. But I still need to complete some tasks by myself, and more details on that topic soon.

Datsun/Mazda/Toyota OEM starters/Alternators
I have 2 OEM Nippon Denso Starters and 1 hitachi starter. The two Densos have part numbers but the Hitachi has no numbers. I also have 3 alternators 1 hitachi with a part number and 2 that are of unknown maker. My dad used to import cars back in the 80s from Japan and replacement parts were hard to come by, hence why I have 3 oem starters and 3 oem alternators. I do know for a fact he imported 2 datsun s30's a RX-7, and a celica all 1970s era cars. I found some cross reference part numbers for the starters but am totally in the dark about the alternators. If anyone would like to buy them or know someone who needs these parts for an original rebuild that would be great. These parts are 100% from japan. They've been sitting in our garage wrapped in plastic for 40 years. I have tested the starters and they do operate correctly. Let me know if you are interested and we can work out a fair price.

It is safer to go back and forth; setting one end low before jacking the other end high and going back to raise the lower. Does anyone know of / recommend stands that support the car on the lug studs with the wheels off?

I have had the cheap tranny jack for years and I hate it. The double rods are nice. Buy once, cry once. you made the right call!

Good topic. My thinking is that it's better to go in a few incremental steps, going front to back. This method minimizes subjecting the jack stands to axial (horizontal) loads. The rating on jack stands in only for pure vertical loads.

I've often seen pictures posted by CZCC members where their Z is perched up on axle stands, front and rear. Getting a car up on stands at either the front or the rear is easy. I'm curious to know what the accepted wisdom is for getting the other end elevated and then getting the stands extended to full lift. Can it be done safely in one step, or is it better to start with the axle stands at minimum extension and then go back and forth in steps from front to rear until both ends are up all the way (i.e. the axle stands at maximum extension)?

Today, I was able to get the transmission back into the car. Because I am one-handed at the moment, I purchased a transmission jack, and I enlisted the help of a friend. This thing is quite the beast - 1000 lb. capacity and it has two telescoping lifting sections (rods). It cost more than I wanted to spend, but I couldn't force myself to buy a cheap, garbage version. I guess as I get older, I'm going to need more assistance for jobs like this one. So, this is a nice thing to have available. I should be able to finish putting the rest back together and take the car for a test drive tomorrow.

Matching Rubberized Undercoating
Ended up picking up some 3m Body Schutz and a cheap undercoating gun and did some test sprays and this isn't what was used, but I think its close enough. It dries much harder than what's currently on there, which feels quite rubbery.

Excel workbook (sheet) is ready to upload to an appropriate section of the resources. Google sheet also has been updated: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Cmnw0F8N7B3VknCzNwGkfN2SGmIHdFJhDjARv3jkxNI/edit?usp=sharing Can someone confirm that you can expand and collapse the groups? You should be able to. Note that the order I have this in, from top to bottom (the sections), follows what I believe to be the best sequence of assembly - for a fully dismantled car.

That would be a great addition. @Mike Within the 'Knowledge' tab, there seems to be no appropriate 'category' for Inline6's list. Perhaps we could benefit from an additional category called 'Hardware'. It could hold contributions dealing with fasteners, hoses, materials, finishes, chemicals, and the like. Maybe even an additional one, titled 'Tools'. Years ago, two other Z owners created similar 'S30 Fasteners' spreadsheets. However, neither was even close to yours in terms of whole-vehicle coverage. Both of the authors ran out of steam after listing about 20 items. One of them actually included photos of some of the more important items. Easy to see why he tired of the project fairly quickly!

searching for glove box lock for my 280z
Dear forum users, as my saddler lost the glove box lid of my 280z (from 1977) including the lock I am still searching for a lock including keys in good shape (working). I managed to acquire a lid via craigslist in the US and a brand new closing mechanism via ebay for in total around 150 €, but still miss the lock. Does anybody have a lid or a single lock? Thank you for your kind help, Christian

I ran across a spare intake manifold for my '71 while cleaning the garage. Any idea what the smaller tube on the brake booster vacuum line connects to? Thanks!

"Workbook" is a term used to reference a spreadsheet "project" in Microsoft Excel. A spreadsheet is typically a single tab, whereas several tabs (each a spreadsheet) is a workbook. I went looking through my old posts and evidently I indicated that I would update the Google sheet from time to time (I am the author), and I would wait on uploading the Excel version until it was complete. I have not uploaded the Excel version to the resources section yet. I just made a couple of edits to it this week. It seems that I should go ahead with uploading it to the resources section, as it is pretty much as complete as I intend to make it.

The wiring pigtail for my 70 Z's antenna also consisted of just 2 power wires (i.e. no ground wire).
