  1. Hello, I have a 1973 Datsun 240z, I had the turn signal assembly refurbished and when reinstalling it the horn will no longer work. I noticed the copper arm on front of the assembly so when I press that on the back of the steering wheel the horn works. If I rest it on the back of the steering wheel the horn blares constantly, if I press the center of the steering wheel or not. I assume it is something simple and I am just a noob but I don't know. Any suggestions?

Hi all, I have a set of old 240Z horns I have had for years. Well I think they came from a 240Z. The problem is they don't have the same mounting bracket that attach to the outer ring like the ones I see in other threads. The mounting brackets use the two some M8 holes to mount to the body, but the bracket attaches to the center post on the horn like the later 280Z. The horns have the original drab green colour. The other thing is they don't have any date stamp. Its blank after the word Date. The last two photos show the difference (front) with the later 280Z horn and the 280Z Date A5 stamped on it. I like the sound of these more than my 280Z horns and was interested where they came from originally. Thanks for any background info Chas
  3. Hi everyone, So it has come to my attention that Cardone does not rebuild the smog pumps up to a suitable standard, and they are only barely useable. I can post pictures to prove this theory, but it's not a theory. It's just a fact at this point that I am now well aware of. They are absolute crap. I would go so far as to say any of the "cast grey" looking ones you see online as rebuilds are all rebuilt by the same place, and they are all just terribly assembled and refinished. I have been looking into buying the necessary items for rebuilding the factory smog pump to spec, and I am wondering if this is something you guys are willing to have done for restorations. In order to keep costs at a minimum, I will have to order various parts in bulk (as that's the only denomination they are sold in). If the price of restoring a smog pump to factory look/style/finish with as many new parts as possible inside the unit, with a core charge, was around $300-$400 USD... is that something that classiczcars members would entertain? Keep in mind, most smog pumps are $200 and they are just cobbled together. Also, since the horn gaskets and hardware are no longer available, I can offer a horn rebuilding service as well. I am having gaskets cut, and locating the hardware at a reasonable price, as well as the finishes. Not sure on what the cost of that would be yet.

Hey guys, I just got my car back from the body shop and can't remember for the life of me how the horns mount back up. I feel like I'm missing a piece. Can someone please post a couple pics of how the horns mount on a stock body 280z? (Mine is a 78..though I would think all 280's have the same mounting). Thanks!
  5. i've noticed a strange phenomenon since starting to drive my 280 regularly over the last few weeks. it only seems to happen when i'm in my parking garage, although it did happen once in my driveway. when i'm pulling away from a stop and going under 5 mph, and start pushing on the accelerator, occasionally it makes the horn beep. i have no idea where to even start with this. it did not do this before i took it to my body shop. they removed the horns to paint the front end, and they said they did a little wiring work on the headlights, but i don't think they've touched any other part of the electrical system. thoughts? on an unrelated note, my gas gauge drops and rises in association with how much voltage i'm getting. normal or problem?
  6. firstly: the 3 rubber spacers that keep the horn bracket from making contact have pretty much worn away. anyone know where i can get replacements for those? i've tried a couple of different rubber washers... i can't find anything soft enough. i'm about to try to make some out of plumbing snake. secondly, the pad itself is loose and jiggly. is it supposed to be like this?
