Mitch, Welcome to the club. Sure is a good looking car. Hope you enjoy it and use it. I think the fun is in the use and care. If you get up to the northwest, give a holler. I'm sure a few of us would get to gether for a meal or ? Have a good time and good luck finding a mechanic.
  2. E, I am actually lighter than I look. Just like my car is faster than it looks. At least it was while under its own power. I think the weight is that sausage he calls a dog!
  3. Do I get two votes?:stupid:
  4. The front control arm pivot bolts are 19mm heads. I just happened to have mine in the air a few inches, so I checked. Good Luck!
  5. E says sewing machine oil. It is as light as you easily find. Although mine was vintage 1958. Seriously.
  6. I would consider this to be in relatively good condition. At least compared to when I bought mine. Looking at your shot down into the tank, it looks to be relatively light on the rust. Go ahead and clean and seal, there is obviously some rust down there, but not worth replacing. After seeing my tank, I'll try to keep mine full when it sits from now on.
  7. Pete is right, put an ad in the classifieds with a few pics. You'll get plenty of views on this forum.
  8. When I took my clock apart last weekend, it seemed to move freely, once I gave it a nudge. So, I put a drop of sewing machine oil in there and I've crossed my fingers that it will work again, once the dash goes back in. Mr. Scanlon says his has been running 4+ years since lubing his.
  9. That is a real drag. Many people have installed an emergency release that they can reach from underneath. Guess, I'll have to put it back on my todo list. Here is what I have always heard is your answer. Good Luck. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9531&highlight=hood+release
  10. No offense to anyone out there, but I don't care for the half caps at all. The full caps are okay, or at least more discreet. The feel is just wrong, but the look is good except, occasionally, in the center area around the heater controls. I will want to hear if you use the restoration place. Please send me a PM with details if you don't care to speak openly.
  11. Bruce, I usually have to use the choke in the morning. Only not if it is hot outside. 90+ degrees. Doesn't stay on for very long. As soon as it revs up to about 2000 RPM, off it goes. Car runs very well. Hope this is helpful.
  12. The correct original gear should have been yellow. Not completely sure, but am thinking 17 teeth. The gear will correspond with the rear differential, but your issue will be that the gearing on the '83 5 spd is completely different. I think that the rear end is a 3.9:1 in the '83 vs. a 3.36:1 from the '73. I think you'll find the gearing way too tall unless you swap the R200 with the tranny. Then you just leave the pinion gear alone in the 5 spd. All you'll need for the R200 swap is a mustache bar from a '77-78 280Z. They aren't very ard to find. I got one for $20. Took 5 minutes to pull. Yes, the pinion gear is the only thing that controls the speedo rating. I think there are 5 different pinion gear colors. Yellow and black from the 240Zs. Do a search to find the others. I have the same tranny sitting in the garage. If I find time, I'll look to see what color the gear is.
  13. Check your valves. If you are crapping out at higher RPM, starts to stumble, it sounds like an issue I had. Also, it sputtered after cold starting and had trouble until it could get up to choked RPM. Valves were too tight!
  14. Tomohawk, I was going to suggest asking your Nissan dealer. Good thinking! If they show it as NLA, don't give up. Contact a Canadian Nissan dealer and they may be able to still order it. Seems pretty common that the US has obsoleted parts that Japan still has available. FWIW.
  15. I actually have each of these trannies. I want to have lower gearing in the lower gears but still have some economy at highway cruising speeds. So, for me, the late 280ZX 5 spd and a lower geared rear differential. Conversion and results still to follow!
  16. Thanks for getting this started Rick. God bless America. God bless and protect our troops!
  17. Welcome to the dark side. Make that the import side. Is there a difference between import and ricer? Most here will say so. Get in touch with your local Z community. Datsun people are usually the best. Helpful, knowledgeable, generally nice. Welcome to the CZC club!
  18. Not really a fuel injection guy, but have you drained the tank, or pushing bad as thru your clean filter? If you've gotten past your bad gas, you may want to clean the injectors.

'73 had flat top carbs from the factory. They will run, occasionally without problems. The rear hatch opening as well as the previously stated battery tray area (look good here, almost all will have some rust), doglegs, lower doors, floor pans, frame rails. Watch out if it has a sunroof! Most states will allow the smog equipment removed from these, so check your local regs. It could be gone. Rust in the gas tank if this has sat without a full tank. Rest assured, you will find plenty that needs doing. It is 33 years old!
  20. I replaced the radiator last year on a '73. went to the 3 row and I have never seen this car get hot. During our recent 100+ degree days, and this car in city traffic and rush hour traffic, the temp guage was right in its normal zone, just below center. So my opinion is the 3 row will take whatever you throw at it. My other car has a 3 row as well. Drove it 12 straight hours with temps up to 104 degrees last August. BTW, stock fan clutch on both cars.

Its good to hear you are concerned about the VIN and keeping it accurate. There have been at least a couple club members that have bought cars with non-matching numbers. It sounds as though it could really present problems for you as a seller or they as new owners. Good job being conscientious.
  22. Enjoy your rest, Carl. You deserve many rewards. Carl was very free with help to me, even after he removed his posts from this club. I have missed him and will continue to. If I can pass on the favors he gave me, then it will be to his credit and good will. Good man!
  23. Since my dash is out, I thought I'd post the connectors to suppliment Arne's reply. 1 bullet connector, 2 spade style connections
  24. I'd be interested to know why a '72 with 44k original miles has the rear hatch glass with vertical lines. Something seems amiss. But it sure photographs well. I wish I could see it in person.
