  1. RB26DETT would be the coolest engine if you could afford it, I have seen endless magazines with a GTR pushing out 1000's of hp, the most I have seen is 1350hp from one of those engines. Probably completely unreliable at that level though. A GTR down the road has a reliable 850hp. I have gone with a lesser version the RB25DET, I would stay away from the v8's and v6's as they would add more weight and that would change the car's handling. smg1404: - do you have a link to that engine?
  2. turboing a normally N/A engine is not an easy quick hp mod, there's a lot of other things you will need to get right and things break quicker. It would be easier to drop a turbo'd 280 engine in.
  3. heaps of resources on the web for preformance upgrades try one of these: http://www.zhome.com/ http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Track/6997/ http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/z.html http://www.gfs1.com/racing/articles/brakes.html http://www.z-car.com/ http://www.sonic.net/~kyle/ztech.html http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/2824/engine.html
  4. 300zx: - 222hp (at crank) - 7.1 (0-100) - 3212lbs 280z - 149hp (at crank) - 9.4 (0-100) - 2875lbs to get the same power to weight you will need 199hp (at the crank) it should then theoretically have the same performance, sorry can't find and sites other then: http://datsunzclub.com/specifications.html http://zhome.com/History/zcarperf.html

I heard a story at uni once of someone unbolting and taking off with the speed camera while the Traffic Officer Slept in his car. Don't know if it was true or not but it made for a good laugh.

Camera Nazi's in NZ as well, heaps of mobile ones (you have to be really stupid to be done by the fixed ones). On the open roads they are allowed to hide in bushes. I don't like the idea of not being able to try and sweet talk the officer out of a ticket.
  7. What kit manufacture did you get it from?

also must paint primer over top when the POR 15 is tacky (once POR 15 dries nothing sticks well) but be careful because if you paint the primer too early the POR 15 will not be able to hold the weight and will run. Very important - use gloves, long sleeves, long pants, this stuff does NOT come off people.

use the metal ready on the non rusty bits (otherwise it will peal off)
  10. personally ; 240 was named off the engine size but it is still a 240 no matter what you put in, 240 signifies the age of the car. I personally am putting a turboed skyline engine in and won't be referring to it as a 250zt, it will be a 240z
  11. also the 240z hp was rated in gross hp not net (I think I got that around the right way) basicly to todays standards (and to that of the 280) the 240z has approx 137hp
  12. the '76 - '78 280 z or zx didn't make it to NZ (unless privatly imported) 240z's came out with 5 speeds this end of the world
  13. do you know any places for replacement chrome bits if you bend them?
  14. 240z 0-100 = 7.8sec 260z 0-100 = 10.0sec 280z 0-100 = 9.4sec (6.8 turbo)
  15. Nothing wrong with the 260z or 280z, both are great cars and very little difference (visually), it's just that the 240z is older, faster, and generally more in demand. As for zx, I personaly think nissan/datsun only got it right with the 89+300zx's, but still the zx's are better than anything else that is not a z.
  16. hmm - "The mileage reads appx. 27,700, but I'm not sure if it has flipped over or not...after all the car is 32 years old. I ahve driver the car approx. 6,000 miles since I aquired it." will make a big difference on the price if it had
  17. no where near finished yet but expecting to be around the $20000+NZD
  18. "The kit producer was located near Phoenix/Az" was this C-R Cheetah Race Cars/Robert Auxier (Phoenix, Arizona) , they are in http://www.kitcar.com/consumeralert/home.html consumer alert page as being a "Problem kit car Firms (thankfully) no longer in business" Don't know of any other Cheetah kits
  19. I had a bit of surface rust on the inside of the floor deck. The only holes I had were at the rear of the door sills and the bottom of the boot frame
