Henry Ford Museum
Back in 1987 I was visiting the Henry Ford Museum and came across this model “Datsun 240Zâ€. I failed to make note of the details on the exhibit card. From the rear bumper rubber finisher, it appears to be a 1972 or 1973. Note, the lack of fender badge and rubber bumper trim. Does anyone have additional information on this model? Thanks, Keith

For a Series I: Throttle control handle Battery cover Seat guard (pair) The above could be easily reproduced if there were enough people interested in purchasing the parts. Keith

Frank, Do not give up hope. I have some Series One parts that may help a fellow Texan get the car back on the road. Keith

Early Valve Stem Cap?
Interesting discussion. What was the last VIN number these Early Valve Stem Caps were used on? Keith

Just picked up 15793 12/70 yesterday.
Great find. Install the bumpers and replace the wheels and you have a clean original Z. Keith

Resources in Mexico
I need Datsun PL520 parts, with a J13 motor (the J15 & J20 were sold in Mexico for many years after the motor was replaced by the L Series in the US). Also, I need Patrol L60 parts, with a P motor, (the G60 were sold in Mexico for many years after the Patrol left the US market). I am looking for a connection at a Mexico dealership who can lookup parts availability once I provide the part numbers. Thanks, Keith

Hey guys, o.e style wire hose clamps, where do i go.....?
There are several sizes of clamps: fuel hose from fuel line to fuel pump fuel line from fuel pump to carb heater hose radiator hose vacuum line (brake booster) Tell me what sizes and quantity you need. I recently yellow zinc plated about 50 clamps (most with the round head). Perhaps I can assist you. Keith

Contacted my Z's Original Owner Today
I contact my PO. He was so happy that his car was being cared for. He wrote a great email to me to confirm that the odo never rolled over. I offered to let him take the car out for a drive should he get to Texas. My conversation reinforced the fact that we are just caretakers of a car, not "owners". Keith

Should I Clean the Fuel Tank?
I have cleaned two tanks in the last 6 months, the 520 and Patrol. Here is my experience, based on input from jfa.series1 and a local radiator/fuel tank repair shop’s recommendations. 1) Use a Marine Clean (POR) product or similar degreaser (I used the inexpensive one that Wal-Mart sells.) This will cut the fuel varnish buildup. Add some small stones, old nuts & bolts, or chain link to the tank to agitate and break loose the buildup. 2) Collect liquid from draining tank for proper disposal. 3) Rinse with hot water. 4) Repeat Step 1 -3 5) Rinse with hot water. 6) Take to self-serve car wash and use their hose to spray high pressure degreaser then plain water. 7) You should be able to see through the fuel sending unit hole the inside bottom of the tank. If you cannot see clean metal repeat Step 1-5. If you see rust holes, buy a new tank. 8) At this point you can use the POR-15 tank coating. I have read extensively on-line that the coating may break down over several years and cause fuel system problems. (I chose to forgo the tank coating and primed and painted the tank.) 9) After completing the above, test the sending unit. Obtain a new sending unit gasket and reassemble. Keith

I know it's not a Z but.....

I know it's not a Z but.....
Chase, You understand you have now entered the world of the truly obscure Datsun parts hunt. There are several sites that cater to Datsun "trucks". Also, you will find that some parts interchange with 510 sedan applications. The L16 motor has many of the same parts as the L24, so that should be some confort. Pictures would be helpful so we all can see just what you have gotten yourself into. Keith
