Started putting my Z away this weekend
Yep..I'm in the Great White North here too, and I drove back to Toronto from Ottawa this weekend...and hit a SNOW-STORM for about an hour outside of Ottawa. Soon it'll even be too cold in the garage to do any work so I better hustle and get any little things done before I say goodbye for the winter. Zak

Transporting my Z
I sent you a PM about the importing. I looked into shipping last year too. Its cheaper to ship to NY, yes...BUT then you gotta either drive it back, or flatbed it back. If you plan on driving it back then it might be a better deal but if you factor in hauling from NY back to T.O., then it might be easier and cheaper to just get it shipped to Toronto. Zak

bought a 240Z need info
Hey, better hurry on the trip because I went outside tonight and there was snow falling! Its 1 degree C downtown, but next week is supposed to get warmer. Go to www.riv.ca for the details on what you need for paperwork, but ZHEAD240 is right on I think. Their office is in Etobicoke at Dundas/427 area, you can go in person in you are near. Good luck on your trip. I'll keep my fingers crossed all goes well! Zak

A quick word on BANZAI MOTORWORKS
Hey all, I just want to share my experience with BANZAI MOTORWORKS. Earlier this year I ordered every decal and blank plate for my '72 240z. While I was placing my order, he advised me the NIHON radiator decal was on back order, but he'd either send it later or with the order if it got there in time. I got my package and I compared the door vin and engine plate with the originals, and they are accurate. I dont have any engine bay decals to compare to, but they all looked like they do in photos I have. I was very pleased with the quality. Last week I emailed Michael to check on the status of the NIHON decal, and it wasn't in yet but he sent me a color code decal free of charge, and he said he'd still mail me out the NIHON decal when it came in. This guy went out of his way and has been a pleasure to deal with. I recommend this place to anyone. Zak

1972 240z emblems! Help!
Its neat learning about all these little differences in parts. I'm going to rummage through the box-o-emblems I have in the garage and see what I have. Zak

1972 240z emblems! Help!
OK, another question. Is the difference between those two available just a period-correct cosmetic difference, or is it the pins on the back are different or the size or something? Zak

Rebuilt my combination switch today
Ya, I'm definetly interested and I'm sure I've seen several posts in the past where folks have been talking about faulty switches. You could post the pics in your gallery, or add them to this post. It would be nice if you included a step-by -step with the pics. That would come in handy for anyone trying to fix theirs maybe. Ifd you took the time to fix a part, document it, and photograph it then by all means...blow your own horn! Zak

Rocker panels, ah what a fine sight
I'd brag too if I had rockers that clean. Very nice. Zak

Rust Problem!!
I had the same problem, but other side of the motor. I had to get new floors welded in, and new frame rails. I got these from Charlie Osbourne at http://www.datsunzparts.com/ . They are great replacements. The body guy/welder had to remove the TC rod mount and reinforce the area. He also had to fab a new front suspension mount - the one that sits on the frame rail. Then he welded the t/c rod support back on and I was good again. If you want pics let me know and I'll put them in my gallery. He did a decent job there (although floors/rockers are a bit offset now). If you do get this type of work done, make sure they measure the frame after and get it perfectly straight after the work is done. Zak

Hi all - Couple questions
Check this info for whats involved in bringing a car back across the border. If its a 240z, basically you just pay the tax, if you're not looking to have it certified for the road. Good luck. http://www.riv.ca/english/html/how_to_import.html Zak

New winshield. Shocked at price!
I took my windshield out very carefully, and I cushioned it at the back of the garage, and carefully leaned it against the wall, and cushioned the top where it touched the wall. BUT...when I checked the next day it was cracked right down the middle. The only thing I can think of is I leaned it so the curve was facing out and possibly the 'weight' of the curve the way it was placed cracked it. Its too bad too..the windshield was in great shape. Now I'm going to wait till its ready before I buy the replacement! Zak

Hi all - Couple questions
Hi, I'm in Ontario also...the GTA. Have you checked the classifieds at www.ontariozcar.com ? I looked around Toronto for a YEAR at every 240z I could find. I agree, they are all overpriced or too rusted. I should have saved a bit longer and went to the U.S. for one! I ended up buying a 240z in pretty good shape, it only needed floors. Turns out its more money and grief to replace floors and rockers than it would have been to just go south and buy one in better condition. I'm not sure where you are, but if youre near Toronto stop into WHITEHEAD PERFORMANCE, they service Datsuns there. Mike might know who has one for sale, or where theres a good body to be found. Good luck on your search. Zak

Throw in the towel?
Hey, you probably already know this site, but check the classifieds at: www.ontariozcar.com Also if you're near Toronto, you might want to go see Mike at WHITEHEAD PERFORMANCE. He may be able to direct you a bit better. Last time I was there I saw a few motors lying around, if it comes to that. Zak

Restoration is back on track (with a lot of help)
The vinyl looks a tad 'cushy' in a few spots is why I asked. It makes sense to pad behind it. I will probably use some noise deadening material. That carpet looks very good, I'll talk to LES when I make my next purchase and see if he ships to Canada. Lookin good Mike. Zak

Restoration is back on track (with a lot of help)
hey looks good. Did you glue the vinyl down in the pics, or is it just 'in place'? Also how does the carpet fit, and what place did you get it from? Zak
