On the first "restored" one... Wasn't its BIN at like 17.9k? Now the BIN is gone and a 5k bid are on it, which is much fairer a starting point. Lots of corners cut, "custom" interior vinyl and carpet, dash cover etc. Looks like the front of the engine leaks oil (timing cover, front seal, oil pan gasket?) onto the steering rack and sway bar--o/w it looks like a good DD (unlike the GT2 racer!)
  2. Steve, I spent 5 years in Atlanta...big place, get used to commuting (ha! Coming from NoVa you should be totally comfortable with that...) The Z Club there is active and friendly, based out of the North Altanta suburbs. Don't forget--you'll be able to go to the Mitty without driving 8-10 hours each way! Good luck on the job, the move etc. Enjoy that 2-car garage! After awhile you'll be standing in your backyard wondering where your freestanding 2-car "shop" can go.... Steve
  3. uh-oh...see what you've done?
  4. Great discussion! I love hearing about this stuff, especially when it comes across as a pleasant debate instead of the all-too typical forum snarkiness. (Dons flamesuit) How about thinking of it as the "Nissan Manufacturer-Approved Pseudo-Restoration Marketing Program"--nice ring to it, yes? Just pleeeeeze don't send out the F-team...I'd hate to see BA Baracus-San come after me.....
  5. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240z-Interior-Door-Panels-Black-Rare-NOS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6763QQihZ012QQitemZ220111102555QQrdZ1 Here's a set on Ebay now, but note the seller. Some have had problems with shipping, but not me personally.... It'll be interesting to see what these go for. Steve
  6. Interesting bits on this one... -radio delete (hadn't seen that one yet) -Plaque on the console (oops --missed that one!) -carpet looks like loop pile--I thought Les at CDM supplied cut pile carpeting? At least that's what I got from him when I ordered my carpet set....
  7. "Factory", that is....HLS30-60354. At least that's what the dealer claims. Hadn't seen this one yet: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320112203242&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:middle:us I recall some folks tracking these for value, etc. Steve
  8. I'll give you $5 plus shipping for it.... Steve

Welcome! Sorry to hear about your father...he has to be one of the youngest looking 60-year olds I've seen! http://www.carolinazclub.org/ That's the website of the Z club based out of Charlotte...When you get a chance you may want to hook up with those folks. From their site I can tell they have an active fun bunch of Z enthusiasts! We're glad you're here, Steve
  10. Two suggestions.... 1) Don't forget to search our photo archives for wheels and rims... 2) A little photoshop can go along way. Visit this site, http://takumiproject.com/ , and crop the wheels from their inventory onto a sideview pic of your car. Change the color of the wheel, whatever you like. I've no exhaustive knowledge of the subject, but these guys have a great collection of "old school" and JDM wheels
  11. Sorry to hear about the personal situation....hope your Z gets a good price! savannah z Good luck, Steve

Sorry, Arne...that has not been my experience. My car did just fine with the generic stuff.
  13. quick google search...."280zx forged pistons" http://www.importperformanceparts.net/imports/pek-nissan.html Scroll down to #16...a bit pricey, but it's a full kit. No 87.5mm bore, but they do have an 88mm bore in a variety of CR. I assume they are for stock rod length and crankshaft stroke Steve

Float bowl to nozzle, right? The one running "under the carb?" Why not use some rubber fuel line from NAPA...Isn't it 3/8" non-FI? I had the same issue with mine (prior to teardown) and replaced it easily from NAPA parts. I think they're in the $3-5 range, but don't hold me to it.... Good luck, Steve

great pics, Mark! The sideview ones where you capture the motion effect on the wheels and background look stellar---well done! Have you linked these up to the TZC and THSCC websites yet? Steve
  16. But, Jeff....you wouldn't have appreciatedit as much if you just turn the key and go....you gotta work for it! At least, that's what I tell myself....8 months in bodyshop he!! and whatnot...
  17. I need the lens replacement hardware, and (crosses fingers) the fuel line bracket and rubber insulators--at least for the engine compartment...and the little hex headed Philips screws that secure them. Pretty please? Steve
  18. I've been looking around (and asking) for suitable replacements for awhile. My only contact at Nissan can't get any. Classic Tube offers brake line sets around $200 for standard steel, slightly more for stainless. They have fuel supply/return and clutch lines, but they are individually a bit pricey. The stock lines were yellow chromate-type plating, and I haven't been able to find those. http://www.classictube.com/index.asp Maybe someone has a lead on some NOS ones they'll share with us! Steve
  19. Great job, Dan! I hope you sell enough to make up for all your efforts and themsome! It's entrepreneurial attitudes like this that make car restoration a fantastic hobby! Any ideas on how to replicate the stamping number? Thanks, Steve

I had noticed the absence of ZRush of late, and hoped it was because of the Scarab restoration...I'm saddened to see that it was for much more tragic reasons. Words on a forum post can't convey what is intended in this situation, but my heart is heavy today. I am very sorry for Vickie's loss. Thoughts and prayers are with her....
  21. Fred, That looks great! Is that the U-Coat It product? What did you do for floor prep? Steve
  22. Minor, nearly inconsequential (unless other bumps and waves make you think the car was hit and subsequently straightened out.) problem. At least you have frame rails and floors with no rust!!! I seriously doubt it will affect resale value. Metal Ready and POR, then forget about it. Steve
  23. Eastwood (I'm sure not the only seller) has SEM vinyl dye in black that looks promising...says it works for vinyl and plastics. Any opinions? http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemID=14623&itemType=PRODUCT
  24. Will, Please let me know when you're ready! They'll go nicely with my stainless hard lines..... Steve
  25. Dude, I feel your pain! I've been looking for the last 8 months for something to replace the metal brackets, not even TRYING to find the rubber....no luck. I think, maybe, you could get some rubber stock and cut them to fit yourself, but I've not had the time to try it myself. I know of no source that currently sells them, although it seems it would not be too tough to make them. Good luck, and if you get a lead by all means share it! Steve
