  1. If you believe that, I have beach front property to sell you in New Mexico. In case you hadn't noticed, the pump prices routinely climb immediately when "uncertainty of supply" issues hit the news. Long before the oil purchased at increased prices hits the US shores. On the flip side, when the per barrel price of oil drops like it has in the past 2 weeks, the price remains at the elevated levels for a long time, usually well after the lower priced crude has hit the beach. Gas prices are set by the Oil Companies acting in colusion with each other to squeeze the public for all they are worth. If you lived in Caifornia where the mergers oil of companies over the past few years has virtually eliminated competition, you would see first hand the situation that we experience every day. Bush's friends who run the oil companies from the executive board rooms know that the Bush government will not act to stop the price fixing unless the heat is turned on HIGH to force their hand.
  2. And the other half are in the board rooms of the oil companies. Guess who's pal's those folks are? Yup, Bush's.
  3. I think that is what we are discussing. Whether or not this fight is one worth the cost to the people doing the fighting. We, the USA, Brits, and the Aussie's are already free. It is the Iraqi's who will become "free", yet do not seem very interested in waging a battle to achieve that freedom. What I wonder is, if we are fighting the oppression of the Iraqi people by Saddam as some people claim, why didn't we (US, Brits, Aussies) intercede when the Tutisi's and the Hutu's were slaughtering each other a few years back? Were their lives worth any less than those of the Kurds, and other Iraqi people? Or was there some other thing to be gained in this fight that wasn't available in Rawanda? Black Gold? Texas Tea? Contracts to Rebuild? Our intervention in stopping atrocites, seems to be related to what WE can gain rather than the actual stoppage of carnage being perpetrated on innocents.
  4. I think you guys have confused this thread with another. This one began with a parody of world leaders espousing views about the Iraq situation. "The those long tedious emails that seem to have a lot of passion in them" are simply our discussion of the same topic. There is room for another thread if you wish to start one.
  5. If we all jumped on the bus, the government would just jack up the price of Bus tickets to replace the lost fuel tax income. They are going to "milk" us one way or another.
  6. Thanks to your export the Croc Hunter, I'm familiar with the "By Crikey" one, but can you translate the other two? Here in CA we have quite a few queens, but they don't talk like that!
  7. Rick: Next time how about we change the subject to..............Girls! A subject we all can sink our teeth into! (except maybe Bonnie):stupid:
  8. George: I have a method for your consideration to remove the undercoat. I've done it this way and it works well for me. I use an hand-held hiar dryer gun to warm an area so that the material is softened, in the other hand I have a 2 inch wide paint scraper, and I scrape it off as it softens. There will still be tiny bits of it left, but they wipe off with a rag soaked in Acetine, or other solvent. If you are considering the POR15 treatment, remove ALL of the undercoat, follow the POR15 instructions TO THE LETTER, and you will be amazed at how well it works. After the POR treatment, you could re-apply undecoat as a sound deadener & additional protention of the metal if you wanted.
  9. Don't hate California. The fuel and sales taxes haven't gone up since 9/11, blame the Oil Refiners that have eliminated competition in the state, and the Federal / State politicians that allow this to exist! Nuke the Politicians until their nUtZ Glow!
  10. 87 Octane regular was $2.25 USD last week. It's down to $2.21 USD now where I live in CA You mean I could live in OZ and it wouldn't cost any more for gas. I'd have them pretty Aussie girls to drool over at the beach too? Where did I put my suitcase?
  11. Can't imagine what a wire would be doing coming out of the oil sump (pan, right?) There isn't anything in there except oil, zand the pick-up tube that sucks the oil up from the bottom of the pan (sump)into the engine block. Nothing electrical in there. I'm confused!:cross-eye PS George, On further recollection, when I removed my front traverse links, I did have to place a jack under the brake rotor and raise it slightly to move the steering tie-rod ends up enough to remove the bolt you referred to. When I re-installed, I did as Keith suggested and put the NUT on the forward side, so that I would not need to bother with that next time.
  12. I hope, and believe that we all remain friends here on this website, in spite of any differences that we may have on this (or any) subject. We're just airing diffeent views, none of us will probably change anyones view of things, but we can expand the understanding that each of us has of this very serious and complex issue. There is a lot to gained or lost by our countries. It is good to see that so many people speak with passion and care so much about what is going on. The world is changing before our eyes. Let's just hope that it changes for the good of all in the long run.
  13. Looks like he took the "Buy It Now" Off of the auction. $9K is Impossible to get for this one, even on eBay. Unless Mayor Marion Berry from D.C. is looking for a Z!!!!
  14. If your car is carburated, there should not be a problem. One fitting is for the return line for fuel not pumped into the carburetors. (probably the smaller fitting). Try to look into the tank from the filler connection and see if you can tell which fitting has a pipe that is plumbed to the bottom of the tank. That one should be the "outlet of the tank" that supplies fuel TO the carbs. the other one is the return line carrying excess fuel back FROM the front of the car back to the tank.
  15. For some reason, reminds me of a Pontiac Firebird. Don't know why.
  16. Good for You! Everybody needs to get away by thenselves for a bit, probably safer to enjoy your smoke this way, than to chance something with your new kid.
  17. Interesting reading, Dwight. I'm not sure about the part regarding how long Rome ruled the world. They did so by being fairly barbaric to many other countries and societies. Not sure we wanna go there. Modern warfare is far deadlier than that waged by the Romans. (a greater scale); and the methods used are rapidly changing. There is far more damage to be done now days by a few dedicated individuals (with bio-weapons, or a box or radioactive dirt) than could ever have been achieved by a few disgruntled Roman slaves. I do agree, and enjoyed reading some of the other points made in the forwarded text that you posted. Our country SHOULD be as concerned with which countries we like, as well as which countries like us. We cannot be all things to all people, and shouldn't try to do so. Picking a choosing our friends, and being friends to those that are worthy to have US as friends makes total sense. ------------------------------------ Does your wife not allow you to smoke in the house, or are you just concerned with the health effects of 2nd hand smoke on your children? Either way,I know the feeling, as I used to smoke, and eventually had to visit the garage to do so, to placate the Mrs. I've since quit smoking, and am glad (now) that I did.
  18. Can see how that will play on the world stage...... "Typical Americans, profiting from the war and not allowing anyone else to share in the bounty or to get in their way of doing what they want. That would be playing right into the negitive perception that many countries already have of us. Not a good idea. Also, you can't just count an absolute # of countries, as a tiny country that receives major funding from the US, does not count the same as a large country which can stand on it's own two feet and vote without fear of it's funding or support being pulled by a unhappy "partner". A country like Haiti, doesn't count the same as a France, or Germany, or Sweden, etc. (that may not be a good example, but I think you get the idea)
  19. Care to provide a list of supporters? Bush and Blair are virtually the only leaders "pushing" for action against Saddam. The few other countries and are "reluctant" (not providing any forces) supporters sit quietly in the wings nodding theri heads.
  20. I did not have to remove the steering rack to remove the bolt on my 72 240Z. You are referring to the bolt that holds the lower control arm (traverse link;) ) to the cross-member that the engine mounts to, right? Should not be a need to deal with the steering rack to do that. Carl
  21. A Great Post! Thanks for Sharing! Your 2 cents is worth $5 USD
  22. Most people have already gone to stainless braided hoses before doing the Toyota caliper swap. Some go further and use a ZX 15/16" Master Cyl instead of the 240Z 7/8" M/C. Not necessary, but couldn't hurt either.
  23. Jesse Jackson is visiting a primary school and he visits one of the classes. They are in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asks the Rev. Jackson if he would like to lead the discussion on the word "tragedy". So the illustrious leader asks the class for an example of a "tragedy". One little boy stands up and offers: "If my best friend, who lives on a farm, is playing in the field and a runaway tractor comes along and knocks him dead, that would be a tragedy." "No," says the Great Jesse Jackson," that would be an accident." A little girl raises her hand: "If a school bus carrying 50 children drove over a cliff, killing everyone inside, that would be a tragedy." "I'm afraid not," explains the exalted spiritual leader. "That's what we would call a great loss." The room goes silent. No other children volunteer. Rev. Jackson searches the room. "Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?" Finally at the back of the room a small boy raises his hand. In a quiet voice he says: "If a jet carrying the Rev. & Mrs Jackson were struck by a missile and blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy." "Fantastic!" exclaims Jackson, "That's right. And can you tell me why that would be tragedy?" "Well," says the boy, "because it certainly wouldn't be a great loss and it probably wouldn't be an accident either." PS If you don't like the joke, don't be a censor and complain to Mike. Just ignore the post and go read something else!
  24. Only you can decide if it's cursed, but from your description it's probably a brake hose or rear wheel cylinder thats bad. Are you runnig the original hoses / cylinders that that the car came with from the factory 30 years ago? In either case, not too expensive to repair. If it is a hose, replace BOTH R & L hoses, or if you can afford it, do all 4 hoses. 2 front / 2 rear. Then you don't have to worry. If it's a RWC examine to see how bad it is. Maybe you can replace the seals from a rebuild kit, or get a new cylinder.
