New Headlights - Best Options?
Hi Stephen, Here's what I put on the 72 I used to have. They were extremely bright when used with the relay upgrade. http://www.truck-lite.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=23781&langId=-1 I used Painless Wiring Headlight Relay kit #30816 - For 9004 and 9007 halogen bulbs. Very painless (pun intended!). Chris A.

Z Car's of Nebraska Show and Barbeque
Thanks for looking at the pics DZR, yeah it was a blast furnace today. I put sunscreen on my feet even! We normally have about 10 S30's at a ZONE (Z's of Nebraska) event so I'm not sure where they were. Holiday plans elsewhere I'll bet. Even the contingent of 280ZX's were missing today. Oh well, more burgers and brew for me!! We actually had 2 G35's today. I guess because the drivetrain is the same as a 350Z they think its a Z. Whatever!! :stupid: I'm sure the 350 and the G and fast and comfortable but I just don't care for their looks. The S30 is where it's at for me! Chris A.

Sorry Bill no ribs, burgers and cold drinks. Hot one today!! Good turnout overall, fellow CZCC member Sledz showed up with his great 72 Z so I didnt feel all alone. I think the heat kept people at home. Chris A.

? First start in a long time
Hi Eric, Sounds like you're going to have my kind of fun! If it were me, I would gently try and remove the drain plugs from the fuel tanks. Drain them out the best you can. If the one car has really sat non-running for 15 years, its fuel tank is full of crap. If you have time I would take both tanks out and have a radiator shop boil them out. If you're just looking to get them running I would run a gas line from the fuel pump into a gas can. That way you get clean fuel right off the start. Besides checking the fluids, I'd take the rubber fuel lines off the steel fuel rails above the carbs and blow some carb cleaner through there as well. There are little filters in the banjo fittings at each carb as well. They may need cleaned. Some people omit them, I wouldn't. You seem to have the basics covered. Fuel clogging due to rust and gunk in the tanks and lines are a big problem with neglected Z cars. Make sure the carb throttle shafts swing freely. Hate to see a stuck linkage cause the motor to redline upon first startup. Shoot all the linkage with carb cleaner and maybe a little penetrating fluid. There are two little pins on the undersides of the carbs. Lift them up with your finger and see if you feel resistance. This would be the carb piston lifting. You can feel and sometimes hear if they move up and down with the lift pin. You could remove the air cleaner cover and lift the pistons with your finger also. If you happen to have a model with the electric fuel pump by the tank on the right side of the car, there is a filter in the bottom of the pump's canister. It will most likely be full of crud as well. Mine was! Good luck and have fun! Chris A.

Not all Spark Plug Wires are the Same!
Courtesy Nissan if you don't mind ordering from Texas. They always seem to have it and its OEM Nissan parts. Perfect fit every time. For my Z or 240SX or Xterra. Seems like their website is down at the moment. They update it daily. FWIW, Chris A.

New book?
Hi Carl, No disrespect intended here, but since it is a "Manga" that is what I found amusing. I realize its a simplified story of the whole process. I'm sure there are bits that are completely factual and bits that have been a bit "touched up" if you will. But make no mistake, I give it far more value than you might think. Having lost my father last year, the two images I posted are rather sentimental for me as its exactly how I was introduced to the Z so many years ago. I was with my Dad. We saw a new Z on the dealer lot getting washed one summer morning when he and I were going to his job. I was hooked and the hook is still lodged. We were even in a Chevy Van like the two in the manga. FWIW, Chris A.

What is this?
Hi Mat, Hey I really appreciate the offer, but my 71 got parted out due to the tin worm being to much for me to fix. Sure wish I had kept it as I could fix it today. Too young and poor back then! My 73 has one though. Thanks again anyway, Chris A.

What is this?
Hi Arne, I am probably wrong on this but my 71 didnt have one. Had the console with the ashtray in front of the shifter. Maybe if Chris Wenzle is reading this he will know for sure. Although Mat's car is older than my 71 was and apparently he has it on his. Mine may have been MIA before I got mine. FWIW, Chris A.

su swap done now stuck at full throttle
Hi Doug, I used the big spacers from the SU's with the long studs from the earlier manifolds. Just because they were handy. I would check to see if the chokes are on. Loosen the screws that secure the cables on the choke/throttle arms. They should return to zero due to the springs with the wires loose. Then try and start the car. If it was the chokes the RPM should be at or near normal. Reach under the carbs and press both nozzles straight up. They might be stuck and not returning to idle either. Bent needle? Good luck. Chris

'70 Rust-Free Arizona Z Going Cheap!
You are so right Steve. I personally have looked at a hundred Z's in the Midwest since 1990. And the only one I found with only surface rust is in my garage right now. I just dont have the time or storage space right now to go save that car. I have the means and a truck and trailer. But.......... I hope someone buys her and finds she's a diamond in the rough. Kind of hard to tell in a b/w photo, but I don't see a radio antenna. Or rear pillar emblems. Cool advertisements either way. Chris A.

Hey John, thanks for that. I'll add it to my collection. I really like page 6. 1969 Corvette 427 for sale $4700. That would have been an incredible purchase. Chris A.

Adam, Thanks for the tips and pictures. Nice job. I really like your less cluttered wiring. jmortensen, Which way did you connect the two wires on the dizzy to the magnetic pickup on the MSD? The dizzy wires are red/green and the mag pickup wires are green/violet. Thanks, Chris A.

Check Out My New Intakes!!
Okay guys, I have question for those that have eliminated the little vacumn pot on the balance tube. What do you do with the pivot bracket on the accellerator linkage between the carbs? Just leave it there? Remove it some how? It just seems tacky to leave it there when you strip the balance tube down like the E41 model. Thanks, Chris
