How long will Battery last without Alternator?
Can we assume the belt is still on so the water pump is still turning?

What is the dwell setting? It should be about 37 degrees.

Rim questions
You will need 0 offset rims. If you use Honda bolt pattern (4x 100 mm) and offset (37- 40 mm) then you will need hub adaptors (http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=6) . Adaptors are okay for street use but not recommended for and kind of performance driving. Plus with the positive offset you lose the "deep dish" look.

Header/Intake Clearance Problem
Since it is a track car you aren't going to hook up the coolant lines on the intake, right? Then just grind the intake to clear.

Reverse light Sensor Help
The wires are connected to the wrong sensor. The sensors should be the same. Since the correct sensor has no wires just swap sensor locations. You can check the operation by turning ON the ignition and the reverse light should come on with the transmission in reverse.

Window Pressure Roller - Where does it go?
To continue what Ari said, it clips so that the roller contacts the glass near the leading edge of the window when the glass is all the way down.

cover for the seat mechanic on a 1971 240
Depending on what month your 1971 was made, you may or may not have covers. Tha later 1971 and 1972 models with the fully reclining seat has covers. If your 1971 only has tilting seats (with the big adjustment knob) then you do not have covers.

Paint Stripe Opinions Please!!!! (ASAP)
As long as you are happy then it is all good. I prefer the black stripes with the yellow body, spoiler and air dam, one color makes it look more integrated.

Slightly Panicked: Brake Pedal Travel?
The brake pedal will feel hard and the travel will be shorter than normal when you "play" with it with the engine off. The Master Vac (vacuum booster) is not helping you when the engine is off thus you will get the unusual symptoms.

Question about original speakers
With a little filing of the plastic console frame you can fit a DIN style radio in your dash. The factory speakers will always sound crappy because there isn't a bass enclosure sealing the rear of the speakers. I know MSA sells a rear panel kit that fits 6x9 speakers or you will likely have to use surface mounted enclosures.

Hello from Germany
Hi Thomas, Another option is to use Arne's adaptor and use a 280ZX internal regulated alternator. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20571&highlight=alternator

71 240Z Transmissions
5 spds didn't come on '71 240Z, but they do fit (280Z/ZX)! You will have to enlarge the shifter hole in the trans tunnel and cut back the console a bit. Curtis (3) '71 240Zs all with L28 and 5 spds

Ashley and my 75 280Z
Glad to see you have a V8 with those side pipes. We put a set of side pipes on a friend's 240Z (with the L6 in it) back in the '70s and was that ever a wrong move!

I have a aftermarket fuel pump. Do I need the stock electric pump?
You are fine.

What air filter do you have???
I am guessing that you made some custom choke return springs because my OEM setup is purely a push/pull thing, no spring assist.

2006 MSA event in April, WHO'S GOING??
This will be the 1st year I won't be going in the last 8 years. SCCA National Tour event in Atwater, CA takes priority this year.

Triple weber carburetor
I've worked with all of them and this is my experience. The early SUs work well under all conditions. The triple Weber/Mikuni/OER work better for racing conditions. The dual Weber downdraft and Holley are okay substitutions for the SUs if you already have them.

Now taking orders - 240Z to 280ZX alternator adapters!
Arne, I'm in for 5 adaptors. You didn't specify continental US, but I figured you didn't expect orders from Hawaii, will you be at the MSA show in April? I am a regular there and be willing to pick it up from you then. Let me know. Thanks, Curtis

Removing 240Z engine....have question.
The '72 and later bodies use the Type B transmissions. These later transmissions have the shifter located farther forward on the transmission than the Type A transmissions found in the '70-'71 bodies. As montoya_fan01 mentioned you would have to enlarge the transmission tunnel hole and modify the console. Your shifter picture is from a Type A transmission, but your sig states a '72.

Removing 240Z engine....have question.
Make sure you don't have a shifter hole alignment issue since you are using a Type A transmission in your '72.

no power over 4000 rpm
Sounds like you are close to Motorsport Auto, the biggest Z retailer around. I'm sure they would have recommendations. Good luck.

Installing 15x8" with 225/50 tyres
As gnosez mentioned with coil-overs you can fit 8" wide wheels with 245/45under the stock fenders without flaring just a lip roll (my old setup). I am now running 17x9.5" and 255/40-17 on all corners and just needed to flare the rear (with negative camber because I also autocross it).

is it normal...
280master is correct, it is a worn ignition switch. Mine does it in any position and frankly I find it convenient like if you need to go back into the house but you started your car already, etc. Back in the day when you could buy a whole lock set from the dealer I replaced my wife's 240Z key set so all the keys were the same and the key doesn't come out.
