  1. Is there any difference between the 27105-E4401 heater box that I pulled from my 07/71, and the 27105-E8801 heater box that I've seen advertised for sale? The microfiche doesn’t even list the E4401 heater box, just the E8801 variety for all years of the 240. I’m guessing someone else has run into this - just want to make sure there aren’t any fitment or functional differences if I replace my E4401 with an E8801.
  2. I stripped the rubber off all the hold downs during the blast process. There was some rust underneath a few of them, and a couple had to be removed and welded back onto the body. Ordered a few of the different size repro covers from 240zrubberparts.com @nix240z. The pieces seem nicely made, but in my case they fit very tightly, and that's before the tabs get a coat of epoxy primer. The body shop has some concern that they might split after install, so they are going to install the few I have after the engine bay is primed, and see how they hold up before ordering the rest. Not sure whether I will ultimately paint them body color or not.
  3. Nice looking - how hard is it to skin over the sunroof? Is that a stock color for '77?
  4. Adam Remington posted over in the Facebook "240/260/280Z lovers" group about a month ago that he just received one, and was very pleased overall. Hasn't mounted it yet, and I asked him to keep the group updated when that happens. Once I see that there are no major fitment issues, I'm likely going to place my order.
  5. I'm looking to pull the trigger on one for a ''71 (not series I), hoping to see a review first just to make sure.
  6. Does the NOS plastic fan have the fan clutch?
  7. Or after a winter storage in zero-degree, zero-humidity weather. So far, as others have said, it looks like a great alternative to the current solutions.
  8. A little dark - a pano of my main garage. It's a tight fit - the RX-7 has to be hand-parked. If you zoom in and look closely, you'll see the front axle of the '71 240Z I'm currently bringing back to life on the carts between the Z-28 and the 'Vette.
  9. Suppose someone steals your car, removes the engine bay and door jamb tags, and either removes the dash tag or puts in another dash with yet another VIN tag. Now there is no way to prove it is your car, as the only remaining VINs (the firewall, and possibly the new dash) don't match your title. Personally, I'd look to make sure I get a title based on the firewall VIN. I have a similar issue with a '77 that we've owned since 1983. It was stolen prior to our ownership, and reassigned a VIN when it was recovered as the dash, door jamb, and engine plates were removed by the thief. I have State of MA paperwork linking the firewall VIN to the reassigned VIN, and the reassigned VIN is on a sticker on the driver side door jamb. At some point, I'll probably restore the car, and will want to remove the sticker for painting purposes, and I'm thinking of having dash, door jamb, and engine bay plates remade with the firewall VIN. The hardest part may be trying to convince the State of MA to buy off on the process of cleaning the title back to the firewall VIN, especially seeing as the car currently carries a CA title with the reassigned VIN, but I'm hoping that the paperwork trail is clear enough that they'll see the logic of my request. They allowed me to clean the title on my RX-7 to go from "EXEMPT" mileage to "true" mileage, based on an affadavit from the previous owner, so I'm hopeful.
  10. Thanks - I've had Datsun Spirit in the back of my mind if all local options failed, would be great aside from the distance/shipping hassle. For the differential, I found a local shop that specializes in drive train work looking at it now. Tranny and engine work are a bit further down the road, time-wise, but if I can't find local options I might check out Datsun Spirit.
  11. My 280Z had its data tags removed by a previous owner - just trying to figure out the month/year of production.
  12. Searched through the posts for the answer to this question - apologies in advance if it's been answered before. I'm looking through my copy of the club microfiche, and the typical page has a couple of column headings I'm trying to decipher. The first column is headed with "S", and there is an "ICA" column, with "N" and "F" sub-columns. What do these columns indicate? Thanks - btw, I highly recommend the club microfiche, Mike did a nice job with the scans. The web browsing doesn't work with my 15+ year old CD copy, at least on my MacBook Pro, but the PDF files are easy enough to browse without it.
  13. The car is only showing 53K miles, assuming there is at least a "1" in front of that. Bought the car in 1990-ish, so who knows how many miles were put on it during the first 20 years. Heavy leakage on the diff, mostly around the vent on top. Tranny's probably ok, don't recall any issues when it got garaged in 1993. The engine has a known failure, the extent of which is yet to be determined. I came out of work one day, started it up, there was a loud bang, the oil pressure went to zero, and that's when it got towed to the garage where it sat until 2014. It's possible that there isn't much that needs to be rebuilt - given that I have all the mechanicals out of the car, and I'm doing a major refresh on everything, it doesn't make sense to not have someone at least go through them and attend to any issues before reinstalling them.
  14. In the process of getting a 1971 240 back on the road after a 24-year sleep, and I'm looking for shops to do a differential rebuild, tranny rebuild, engine block/head work. Massachusetts area preferred, but would travel anywhere in the northeast area. Datsun specialty/experience would be a bonus, of course. Thanks!
