I don't get the hoopla here. Has anyone ever seen a good remake of the old shows? This isn't exactly the first Knight Rider remake as stated in the linked article. Who really remembers the others? After the first season, and in some cases it take less time than that, this will likely end up wherever shows like 'The New Leave It To Beaver' and movies spawned from old shows like "Bewitched," "The Honeymooners", "The Dukes of Hazzard" and "The Beverly Hillbillies" ended up. Not many remakes ever measure up to the original.

When did brake rotor hat height change?
In the US, they changed 8/73 with the 74 260Z which are the same as the 75-78 280Z. Found that out some years ago when I found a pair of brand new 240Z rotors in the hatch area of a junkyard car. Took them home only to find out that they wouldn't work on my 78. So you could have 260Z or 280Z rotors.

Coolant Leak
It's been some time since I've done it but I'm pretty sure that flywheel has to come off too. Not a fun job but if it has to be done, it has to be done.

Oh it's a pain but I've done it. Tools and skills. Not as much of a pain as the one on the back of the block, though.

I also doubt it's a weight issue. None of the stuff removed from the car was from the rear based on the opening post. What brand are your tires?

I answered your pm but I'll also answer the question here. No. The systems are different between the AC and the non AC cars. Different heater valves, different manner in which the vents are controlled (cables/levers vs. vacuum), etc. Without getting into all the details, even if the AC components have been removed, you'll have to keep the controls as they are to properly control your heater/defroster etc. No real reason to switch the control panel you just won't have AC. And the non AC faceplate doesn't work on the AC panel.

bad thermistor? As in a type of resistor with resistance variance according to its temperature? That takes me back to my electronics classes! I just call it a coolant temp sensor but I'm glad you got it solved. There were just too many variables for me to consider without actually having the car in my presence.

First of all, welcome! As I recall, much had been changed on that car. Steering wheel, carpet, wheels, stereo, mirrors, and it had a front air dam, louvres, etc. and the color was not original. To 'restore the car to its original glory' as you say, would be a rather costly undertaking but probably what #387 would deserve. I bought one of the first Zs sold in my area back when they were new and mine was #488 (long gone but one of the reasons I stll love these cars). I'm not really that much into originality but if I had a low number car, I'd consider it. The date of manufacture is on the driver's side door jamb tag or at least it is on my 78.

Yes. There is one on the back of the block that would be covered up by the trans. Did you change the one on the back of the head?

gnosez, you and I are virtually the same age but I think Gary's recollections have us both beat! I remember gas actually being less than that, about 20 cents/gal. I'm surprised that none of us older guys mentioned the Steve Allen Show, The Tonight Show before Johnny Carson (Jack Paar and Steve Allen acutally preceded Carson as hosts), and the many daytime after school dance shows like Shindig, Shivaree, American Bandstand, etc.

A wooden chassis? That's not that old really. There was a car built in the 60s and 70s, maybe even later than that, called the Marcos. I believe it was built in England. A really stylish car for it's time as I recall but the most amazing thing was that it has a wooden frame. Wiki it and I am sure you'll find some info as Wiki seems to have info on everything, whether it's right or wrong. I just remember seeing the car at an auto show either in the late 60s or early 70s.

I used to to that with starters, alternators etc. Open them up and inspect them. When you find worn or broken parts in them, you have to find a source for those parts. Replacing them is easier than attempting to fix the malfunctioning one.

I'd say, based on that, that the old girl is probably due a new starter. That wouldn't be the first time I've heard of removing a part that worked and having it not work when reinstalled. Had that happen a few times myself. Maybe the extra moisture from the leaking expansion plug did it in.

Wire brush those connections and grounds and see how it works then. Also, I'd get a black negative cable to avoid a possible and potentially costly mixup. Not sure about the PCV hose but I just use bulk hose for that but make sure it's bulk PCV hose, not bulk heater hose.
