Wheel Decision
Thanks Gav, I took it out of a Old Timer magazine. He owns a beautiful 920 gold 432. He is the original owner! That quote says it all. Victor, you are going to excite the daylights out of every 86 enthusiast and owner when they see your car with those wheels. I like the odd color Gav. I only think the red/pink would look good on a car of a neutral color like grey, silver, white, or black. Take care, Ben p.s. Take a look at this site and you will see what I mean about the pink centered wheels and a beautiful white Z. BTW, the wheels are Sakura cherry blossoms (I am pretty sure that is what they are called). http://datsun30.hp.infoseek.co.jp/

L28 runon!
Does the runon occur even more when it is hot out or does it not matter? I had runon before and it was because of an exhaust leak. During the heat of the day it would runon a lot more than in the mornings. Ben

I agree with you Enrique. LS1240, I flamed when I really shouldn't have. I should have kept my opinion to myself. We are all different as you said and we all have different ideas of what the perfect Z is. There is no such thing as a wrong one, just a different one. Yes this car is a time capsule, but there are more out there (I hope). I really sound like a hipocrite now. There are two things that I would like to point out as regards to this thread and my view on it: 1. You should not have come to this site on a dare, but you did and you got a mouthfull from many of us here. You should have expected it because many of the HybridZ members did. 2. It is your car and if you build it the way you say, then it will be a great custom car. Yes, it will not go with the style that many of us like, but many (all) can respect fine craftsmanship. However, it doesnt matter what I think because it is your car and you should be able to do what ever you want to it. I hope you feel welcome when you come to this site because we still share a love for these great cars as you said. Ben

Restoration Tire Size?
Max, you should go with all gun metal Pans. You also might be better off with the 15 by 7j ones because you could have a bigger side wall and a better ride. Take care, Ben

That is awesome Victor. Old school JDM rims are the best. I think you are going to love them. Are the centers pink? I think the pink wheels look great with the polished lip. Have you seen the Sakura cherry blossom wheels? A lot of them have the pink and silver finish. They look great like the MKII's wheels. Take some pics for us. Congratulations again on the wheels.

Very nice S30ZT. Are the Wats that you have the ones with the +15 offset? Those are nice wheels.

In my dreams: Watanabe wheels
I was under the impression that the type R wheels were only in magnesium, but a friend of mine told me that the "R" came in Al and Mg. On the R type the "Mg" was stamped on the wheel, or there was no stamp at all (this was on the older type). The type R in the 16 only came in AL though. To answer your question Gav, and to clarify what Lachlan said, the type "R" has a much more negative offset than the type "A" and "B" and the smallest width you can get type "R" is 8j. That I pulled off of the RS-Watanabe site, so I am not sure if it is correct for the older styles. I wasn't going to say anything, but I bought the Watanabe's that started this thread. They just got in shipment yesterday. I am so excited, but they won't be going on the car for a while. I just hope that when it comes time to painting the rears that I can get a shop to color match them to the front gunmetal ones. Ben

1967 Bluebird Wagon on Ebay
Congradulations Chris. You are going to have quite the stable. I would love to learn more about these Bluebirds. How is the 240zg replica coming along? I saw some of the photos of the car and it looks like you are doing a really thorough and excellent job. Now if only I could get that Prince that is on ebay. It is not going to happen. Hehehehhe Ben

Hi Vicky, thanks for thinking of me. The wheels that are on the blue Zcar look like 17" 3-piece Panasports, but I am not positive. I was looking for Watanabes, but the wheels in the photo are very nice indeed. Ben p.s. I have taken this thread way to personally. What can you do??? Everyone has different opinions about everything. I feel like I was too strong spoken. Kill this thread like Chris said. LT1240z, I just gave you my opinion and that is all.

Where Would You Go in your Z?
Chris, this would be awesome. I would absolutely love to do this. I would also like to gather a group of Zers and drive across the states and attempt to see a bunch of sites. Mt. Rushmore, Cadillac ranch, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Sedona Arizona, the Montana "AutoBaun" (not so much an Autobaun any more), New York City, and so many many more places. I would really like to send my Z to Japan one day. Take her back to where she came from and drive around Nikko, Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and other places in Japan. (I took an Asian history class and it was really interesting. Plus, everyone that I know that has been to Japan loves it there and I made some friends at the Z convention from Japan.) Guus and Co. trip sounded awesome too. So many places to drive, but so little time. Ben

I really don't know what to say about hybridz. I think any engine swap with one of these cars is just wrong, unless it is another Nissan straight 6. Take a car like this one that was found which is a great car and has great history, drop a v8 in it, there goes that history. Don't get me wrong, people should do whatever they desire with these cars. I may not agree with it, but it is not my car. LS1240z, you knew this would offend people on this site, why did you do it? It offends me, but hay, it's your car man. There are the purists, the hybridzers, and people in between on this forum, but we don't post things to make any group upset. I don't like v8z's, but I usually don't say anything because one, I don't want to offend the owners, and two, it is only my opinion. However when you go posting $h!t like this to make people "flame", it just bugs me. Please save this car. Some members of the hybridz forum may not care, but there are fewer and fewer Zcars everyday, due to rust, wrecks, and sorry, V8's and other swaps. We are all Z enthusiasts, and there is nothing wrong with customization, but keep the ones that are not tainted that way and the already customized ones that way. Save the history people. Someone mentioned that 73' was not a classic. I beg to differ because the 70-72 may arguably be the most desirable, all the S30's are classics. I can only dream my car was in this nice of original shape when purchased. My car was a rust bucket. Check my gallery. If this car was not as prestine as it is, I wouldn't be making a fuss publicly. ***Please LS1240z, make some money and sell this to a classiczcar.com member or someone that is going to restore her to her former glory, and buy a different car for your fantasy Z.*** Ben P.S. As regards to what someone said on hybridz.com; I have never seen a v8z go for more than a nice original. P.P.S. You won, I flamed, but I only did it because this car should be spared. There is no doubt that it is a great find, but let it go or keep it and restore her and get a rolling shell for the LS1.

Aww man, it is a no go. The parents said no can do on these wheels.

In my dreams: Watanabe wheels
Hmm, they are similiar to Panasports in that they are both of the 8-spoke style, but the Watanabe is the Japanese version. I am not sure when the company started making wheels, but these were the wheels of choice for Z owners of the time and today in Japan. The works race cars in Japan used Watanabe's, although the sizes and offsets were much more extreme than these. There are a few types- Type A, Type B, and Type R (oooooh). The 7.5j wheels in this auction are surely type B, however the front ones I am not sure of. Type R Watanabe's are made of magnesium and they have a little "R" next to the luguts. The Type "B" has a "B", and the Type A is on the reverse side of the wheel which is the most positive type you can get. Type "B" is the middle ground wheel, although you can get some pretty extreme type "B" as well. Panansport and Watanabe are 2 totally different wheels. They are both great looking and they are both very high quality wheels. Panasports are more common here, but in Japan it is the opposite, but that is not why I prefer Watanabe's. There is a JDM essence of the Watanabe's and their affiliation with the S30 that make them so intriguing. Best Regards, Ben

Prince Skline on ebay again!!!
Wow, this is great. If someone wants to own a great car in need of a restoration than this is it. If I had the spare change I would love to get a hold of this car, but it would sit for a while. Hehehe, take this car one of you guys. It looks awesome. This is where the legend started- Skyline. I can not say enough. Just buy it and restore her to her former glory. A car definately kicks arse if it comes stock with triples from the factory!!! Hehehe, excuse my french. Here is the sister to the Z. Okay enough of what I said. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2485340719&category=6392 Sincerely, Ben
