  1. This, Roll back up to the drawing at the top of the page and you can see in the later "better" position that the front of the diff is being supported forward of where it is supported on the earlier configuration.

Yeah, that's from the time I was being pursued down the freeway by a dozen LAPD, the sparks were flying but that old 510 out maneuvered them all. By the time it was over it looked like the end of The Blues Brothers.
  3. You take a hammer and tap the grease caps on the front wheel hubs until they are just flattened enough for the cap to fit over. Also be careful which caps you order, there are a few different sizes and they all fit the wheel but there is only one style that sticks out far enough to fit over a flattened grease cap. Yes I think the the rota Grids have a very clean aggressive look and soooo much easier to wash than the basket weaves I use to have.

You might be right, the last time the car was on the road was the early 80's, drinking and driving wasn't so taboo then. @zKars, I'll be needing parts

I headed out to the storage tent today to remove the rear end of the 510 and start tearing down. Found something I hadn't noticed when I bought it. So what could be the story here? He's driving the car and losses his P/S rear wheel so he pulls over and throws the wheel into the trunk and instead of calling a tow truck figures he'll just drive it home. How many miles does it take to wear a wheel cylinder in half? Well, I know why the car was taken off the road now?
  6. I've never seen that kind of wiper motor cover before, only the bag type. I used to own hls30-01955 and it came with the bag type cover, interesting.
  7. Having grown up in that era it's hard to beat a set of Libres for a classic racing look but I have Rota Grids on my Z and I really like them.
  8. My take from left to right is, orange/brown, red, traditional yellow and the far right is the recently popular neon yellow/green that you see everywhere these days, I guess you could call it "safety yellow".
  9. No one makes them as far as I know but you shouldn't have too much problem finding them used.
  10. All of that is very restorable, the sand blaster is your friend. This what it will come out like.
  11. My son has been making 2 doz. peanut butter/chocolate chip cookies from scratch every third day for a couple weeks now, I'm starting to put on next years winter weight already. Both he and I love the burnt ones so he deliberately leaves them in an extra few min. These were baked this morning and I'm already thinking were going to run out.

I agree, I have never found anything other than black paint on bare steel.

Even though the hole is only in one location the chances are good that the bottom of most or all of that rail is rotten too. If you have access to one of those inexpensive bore scopes you can peer inside. You see where the rust has crept up the side wall of the inside of the rail about 1/2", I'm going to bet that extends the length of the rail where water has been sitting.

At some point I went through all these fads, negative heel earth shoes, suede walabees, disco shoes.

    Adidas Stan Smith in white.
  17. Yup, I'm surprised it even fit.
  18. Yup, I certainly did goof up but I have a sort of plausible excuse! I installed the clutch disc backward but on one side of the disc only there is a large embossed F so I assumed that's the front, nope, that is the company logo of the manufacturer. I should have checked my pictures. But now that's it is all torn apart again I think I am going to replace the dual mass flywheel with a single mass unit, and eliminate another 15lbs. Thanks for all the help guys.
  19. Mark, I used Dot5 in a number of cars and bikes over the yrs with no problems but it will dye those nice white reservoirs purple.
  20. A piece of angle iron on the back of the brace has two nuts welded underneath, then two holes drilled through the lip of the cowl, you could also add a small plate on top of the lip to sandwich the cowl lip.
  21. Nice, are you also going to post the restorations here on this forum? Not everyone does the instagram/facebook thing.
  22. I aim to find out, I'm going to start pulling the trans tomorrow, hopefully it is something like a fork spring that jumped off. As I mentioned before the bmw slave has a 16mm stroke and the new clutch MC easily makes the slave extend fully so I know the clutch fork is getting enough movement to disengage but for some reason isn't, that makes me think there is something wrong with the fork alignment or maybe the pivot it's self. I promise I'll show warts and all, I goofed up somewhere.
