Japan Quake
Thank you everyone, thank you for your kind word. I am fine:) Like Gary said, thank you James, New Zealand too, I hope everyone facing hard situation in those area can resume nromal daily life as soon as possible. Before the quake,I was planing to visit my mothers home with my son where is located near Sendai city-the worst damage area(thank you esprist!). But I flew only me, took 600miles trip from my house. When I hit the quake , I was in a car with my mother, that was so scared.Magnitude 9.0 that was unbelievably shaking everything. But, we are all fine and nothing damaged, just some books and glasses were fallen off from the shelves. 3 nights without electric lighting, but water and gas for cooking were normal,so the meals were normal each day.My elder sister also fine and managed to drive home, we talked about my father (passed away 2005) "he gathered all! " I decided to leave my mothers home with my Datsun, only this car had fuel on a half of its tank, that was very marginal quantity, but I made a decision. No-train, no highway , airport was gone, no gas station, only one choice was took the car for EVAC. I had been monitoring radio everyday ,I found the best route to drive, west coast of Japan sea area has not damaged, if my Datsun runs good fuel consumption, I could reach the area, and she did! I found a gas station before running out on fuel, and good highways for all the way home ,I took almost 24hours driving from my mother's home to my home. I thank you my Datsun 240Z, that was a great run.She runs always smooth and reliable. As you see on my web page, there are some pictures of my 240Z in snow condition, that was I had parked the 240Z at my mother's home.Almost 5 years I had visited and taken for a ride at mother's home once a month. Now 2 Zcars(240Z and Z432) are sitting on my home side by side. Best Regards, kats

Clock repair for Z's
Thank you Ron, I thought they can not be interchangeable, I was wrong.Thank you Ron:) I have tried a earlier clock with a earlier box and a later box.The later box did not do anything ,that was just because the later box was completely dead, now I understand. In Japan I sent the dead later box to a repair shop, the shop lives up with its skill for long time. But the shop could not repair the later box. kats

Clock repair for Z's
What a great work:) Ron makes everyone happy. The two knobs Rally clock has two types, earlier and later. Both face is just same but back of the clock, the bracket is different. Also the oscillator has two types, earlier and later but we can not see the difference from the appearance. Shopping on Yahoo Japan auction, we do not see many but sometimes rarely see two knobs clock and oscillator.Usually they are on sale separately, this is the problem. It is very difficult to find (buy) right muching clock and oscillator unless you are very lucky. Sellers usually don not mention what year and month (they just for get or simply do not know) so buyers have to buy it anyway whatever they are listed on the auction. Most Fairlady Zs have rally clock, we do not think it is rare but in the auction we have to say it is rare. kats PS: attached link http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/oldpack.html is a NOS one with a box,you can see how Ron's work is great ,repaired clocks look just like new. This picture proves it.

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Thank you Glenn, Yes your Fairlady 240Z has black wiper arms and blades. We can see them in these pictures, the red 240Z from a car magazine(still owned by a gentleman) ,the blue 240Z from Nissan factory photo. You should be very proud because old days in Japan tax was so high for at or above 2000cc engined car, I think buying and owning a Z432 was cheaper than that of a 240Z for some 20 or 30 years. People who did not care about tax and were interested in L-24 engine prefered 240Z with a G-nose(Fairlady 240-ZG). So Fairlady 240Z is a very rare car to succesfuly survived. Fairlady 240Z was not a car to be chosen in used car shop because of tax ,because of without G-nose. Fairlady 240Z was scrapped easily. Keep it forever:) kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi, TA auto is a restoration shop in Chiba prefecture, Ando-san is an owner of the shop and he is a great restorer. My Z432 lost a bracket for the tube of a radiator reservoir tank and I need it for a long time. Ando-san made it for me from a steel. kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi, Nothing new about my Zs but I recently purchased a nice item from Yahoo japan auction. This is a big photo panel of a Failady-Z with an automatic transmission(S30A, Z-L) unkown year and date. I guess it was been hanging on a wall of a dealer showroom when the S30series made its debut of auto trans. So it was in late 1970? The size 100cmX70cm (39 inc X 28 inc). The seller has listed other items which are very rare goodies amoung us. See attached pictures, a clock and a key holder. kats

240 # 22
Hi Unkle, Dan made it clear, that is right, I was refering non tinted glasses. The word "white glasses" just came into my mind instantly because in Japan we sometimes use this word for non tinted glasses. Thank you Dan:) kats

240 # 22
Hi, I envy you Chris, and Mike.I still keep my dream becoming an owner of a 1969 240Z. I just steped back and looked this auction(Thank you Mike). I would be interested in a low vin car which remains its all the parts which are considerd "1969 special" .I can not say "I do not care if the car gets rust badly" but, if I have big money and good craftmans, metal work can be done for the level which I am satisfied. The parts are most important for me.The hardest one is "white glasses". I have no idea I can find them in Japan if the car is missing or altered. Other parts are of course hard to find but we can collect or make reproductions. I will not be interested in a low vin car which has fully restored without "1969 special parts". kats

Well, I wound up with another low VIN Z...
Very nice Mike:love: I am dreaming about painting a 240Z myself, under supervised by profesional painter. If I had a car to paint, I go 905 red or 920 gold:) Could you tell me your adress again, please? I am sorry I lost it. I am ready for sending a box. kats

Poor man's Porche
Thank you everyone, thank you.Especially I like above A new point of view, yes when people have a datsun then become a rich. One more question, how about American sports car? 1960s-1970s corvet and mustang are cool, are they compared to Zs? How about maintenance cost? In Japan, imported car's labor fee is almost double , and parts are very expensive because they come by boat or airplane. And the "brand" . Shop like selling Ferrari can sell tiny parts with big surprising price. They know they are selling those expensive cars to rich people. kats

Who actually did S30's styling? We can make it clear
Hi Chris,240znz,Grim,Fred Thank you for enjoying this thread.I have more to show on this topic from Mr.Tamura. Chris, type A6(convertible) was a very biggining, Mr.Tamura was not inducted to the team yet.Type AC-2 has a lamp case which Mr.Yoshida said "that is my design" ,a little before the AC-2, Mr.Tamura joined as a modeler. Mr.Yoshida left the team after AC-2 completed. kats

Who actually did S30's styling? We can make it clear
Hi, Ian,you already know that website! What a good timing,Mr.Tamura told us about a lamp cover and a lamp case. He said the case should not have a sharp edge at the top corner, and the cover should not have a big steel trim ring. When Mr.Tamura joined S30 team,he was a modeler worked for Mr.Matsuo(chief designer) and Mr.Yoshida. At that time Mr.Matsuo was very busy as a chief,he could not spend much time with S30 (type AC) cray model.Mostly Mr.Yoshida and Mr.Tamura were doing styling for the cray.Mr.Tamura told me "I remember when we were doing lamp case,I discussed with Mr.Yoshida about the edge of the case.We agreed round shape, increasing "R" of the edge from front grill side to lamp cover" "Also we agreed about cover,it should be sticked on the case without big trim ring,we did not want to spoil of smoothness of finishing touch of the fender. So the case was glooved proper width and depth for the clear cover " "Some book shows pictures of design study of type AC, it had trim rings. But it was not a ring,it was aluminum tape.We wanted to hide sticked area of the clear cover to be looked neat" "But we were not for sure how production engineers would take the way of fitting of the cover nor how they settled down of pressing metal for front fender and the lamp case" "However we both assumed the case would be a plastic, not like actual production one, we thought only inside of the case(in front of the lamp, curved portion)" Mr.Yoshida was forced to move to other section, then Mr.Tamura became as a designer of S30 and he did really hard for its completion. He was alone,as I told here before, every day and night,he spent with the cray.I think Mr.Tamura is the real artist with incredible skill. He can answer every little details of surface of S30. But Mr.Tamura too,he was forced to move to other section when he had just finished final design of S30,so Mr.Tamura could not be involved next step, cray to production (I do not know how I can say it in english, sorry for this) That is why Mr.Tamura is saying, "S30 which we are having is not what I intended to design, when the cray was brought to production engineers, some parts were changed from original cray" Mr.Tamura sent me a letter with some "revised" drawings which have a cover without trim ring.He said a clear cover was a must item for its design ,if it does not have it,it does not complete its design.Of cource without trim ring!" "I drew the red S30 with a trim ring, but at that time I felt something uneasy. I forgot something over 40years ,now I found what I was doing!" kats

JDM Headlight cover difference.
Hi Alan, I would like to know Is there any chance to reach the point,E4100 would be for the one which I currently have covers? If the 1969 motor show Z432 will have 3 holes only and the positioning of screws are what we are assuming ,it leads me think of the one which we are thinking "later" so far could be an inprovement parts in terms of fixing covers i .e. 4screws are better than 3. And it is very notorious among Japanese owner that "later" positioning screws can cause of cracking easily especially where in front of the bumper , near the grill. We say "when you tightn that screw, you need to turn the screw reeelly light!!" I sold the used old "later" one, it has crackings both right and left where I am talking about. So I tend to think like this, after motorshow designers added screws, then we have got the problem of cracking of top edge in daily usesage, finally designers changed positioning of screws as E4126. I was thinking "it is natural"... I think E4126 is E4126,it has that screw positioning , no doubt. And this has far better positioning of screws preventing cracking. But if it (E4126) was released before the one which I have "later" one, why Nissan would take a chance of the cracking problem with "later" one's screw positioning as a superceded parts. That is why E4126 is mystery , and "later" is also mystery for me. As a side note,I believe I saw there is another unique part relating a cover,we have a head lamp case(plastic) which already has mounting holes on it.There must be a part number.I copied the picture when it was on Yahoo but can not find one in my laptop. I am wondering about it's positioning of holes. Alan, you know about this,do not you? I am very enjoying on this one!! kats

Pedegree of S30 styling?
Hi , When I was in Bakers field CA at 1994, I met a 1972 240Z and I owned it and really enjoyed. That was a first time for me Z experience. At the same time I bought a book "Essential DATSUN Z " it says about Mr.Goertz. Fairlady Z was a star for me when I was a little boy(and for all Japanese boys too) but we did not know who designed the car. I read the book, then I trusted the book. So it is natural. Now we have learned many things, it is very good and interesting. Mr.Tamura gave me a special picture on the plastic panel, recently he has been inspired by so many S30 owners around the world, he took a brush and painted by himself. Mr.Tamura is a real artist.Still has incredible skills. Please note this car is what he intented to give for S30 design, no emblems ,different wheels, mirror on the door, different rear over rider, and he can tell much much more details which we can not see from this side angle picture. kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi, This S30S has tinted screen, and at the left door glass, you can see the little notation sticker it says "S30S" inverted see through. Maybe this sticker was for the crews of photo session. And some from service bulletin of Fairlady Z, the description about glasses it says all car has tinted for all around. But as we know, even factory publishings are not correct all ways. kats

JDM Headlight cover difference.
I love early.I have later. Covers are NOS , but the NOS rings were not good for its shape.I had a set of used covers and rings,I put used covers with NOS not so good rings on yahoo Japan auction.I sold them cheap. Now I have NOS covers and used very nice shape rings which were re-plated with tripple chrome, they looks very nice than the original. Can you see how the rings are shining? I think typical problem for later OEM NOS cover set, is the rings are not good shape. The rings do not fit nicely with covers(but better than replica I think). Those covers of cource from Nissan, but looking at them side by side, used old ones are very nice shape while NOS ones are not. How about E4126 ones in the boxes? Are they good shape? And the lamp case in the picture is very old, I love its shape. It has sharp edge on the corner. kats
