Hesitation during acceleration
I bought my first 280 for $1,000 back in the late 80s. It would crank and idle but nothing else. Guy was frustrated with it and took my offer, all the money I had at 18 years old. He also was married with children and couldn't drive the foreign car to his job at the steel plant. They would cut the tires back then, Buy American was the war cry around here. Loaded it on a trailer and tracked down a local legend, "The 280 Lady". She had it running in 30 minutes. 15 of that was checking the basic stuff then the TVS then popped the cover off the AFM and tapped the weight, it was stuck. Got in and beat the hell out of it around the block. I gave her $25 bucks. Good Karmal is what my Dad says. Pay it forward!

Gearing down with blue smoke and back firing
Does it smoke on the first start up of the day? That's a sign of leaky valve seals too.

Hesitation during acceleration
@Captain Obvious had a good chart showing the resistance of the CTS. If you google "purrs like a kitten fastwoman classiczcars.com" she also has some good info on her Zs resistance with the potentiometer added. I ran mine in the cabin and tuned it by feel for a few months then taped it down.

Temp Gauge Warning Idiot Lamp
I like that idea too. If he could wire it in with that horrible buzzing when the key is first turned on he could keep looking at the cute joggers, bird dogging. Great work Captain, your winter down time is always neat to see.

Bringing a 1977 Z back life
Oops. You're right Zed, I have ZX distributors in my 240 & 280. 280 is shot though and I'm about yo put the old one back in. Av8ferg there's a good write up from RossiZ where he put 240 carbs on his '78. More reliable and cheaper than replacing all the efi components. I can't find it now but I'll post it when I'm on my laptop, I have it bookmarked. It's worth reading.

Bought # 4858
Nice for setting the wipe pattern too, pretty much any head work. I had to use a overhead chain hoist to get a bare block on my work table. The one you have looks liftable by hand. I wonder if a plasma cutter would work? I got a friend that knows a guy...

Color Change?
Even better, get some rocker stripes. Reproduction originals are less than $50 and look really good in my opinion. Does it have black interior or red, maybe blue? I didn't think of that.

Color Change?
Go for it, I'm partial to 918.

Agreed! I've been reading this fantastic thread all along because I have/had a set of triple Webers, sold now so I'm out but still enjoy reading. 8^) Blodi's observations and 240260280 (Blue) too and the way they figure things out amazes me. Keep up the good work guys, maybe one day I'll have the confidence to buy another setup.- Bought # 4858
Is that some type of ceramic heater to get hot enough to straighten cylinder heads? You got one helluva hack saw!- '71 240Z, 1 Owner, Sunshine Yellow, AC & Rare Beltek FM/EQ/8 Track
I like the looks of this one a lot better but I'm not into radios/8 tracks. Maybe y'all can work something out? It doesn't look like an 8 track would fit in that face plate on your Craig. Is that what's missing, the player or the radio?- Bringing a 1977 Z back life
Here's what I went by to set the gaps on the stator. Loosen those phillips head screws to adjust with a feeler gauge, try and get them all equal. The fuel pump rebuild was not what I thought but you may see/read something that'll help. I bought a new one just because. Didn't need it but I'd rather have new than get stuck on the side of the road. I can pressure test it and maybe consider selling it? I'd have to dig it out of my storage building and figure out a price, no guarantees on the reliability though, it was on the car when I bought it. Bosch ones I think go to 50 psi without a fuel pressure regulator. If it goes that high i think it would be okay if your interested, I like new stuff myself. I am a worrier not a warrior. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/fuelpump/index.html- '71 240Z, 1 Owner, Sunshine Yellow, AC & Rare Beltek FM/EQ/8 Track
My bad, you were on that two year old thread from @Perfect240Z- '71 240Z, 1 Owner, Sunshine Yellow, AC & Rare Beltek FM/EQ/8 Track
Somebody in the last couple of days wanted an 8 track. Go to "activity" and look through the last few days, it was in the title. Congrats on the sale.- Weber selection and initial jet tuning
As easy as they are to get off I'd take one with the new one to get exact size. If you do get another intake or exhaust, whichever your replacing. shouldn't be any problem but better safe than sorry. Cliff- Bringing a 1977 Z back life
Blue's tech tips show how to clean/rebuild the OE Bosch, the $300 one. Maybe your's can be saved? I bought one of the last ones advance auto had about 6 years ago, $256. His tech tips also show the air gap for the distributors stator. I'm on my phone now but tonight or in the morning I can post that info from my laptop. Sounds like your getting close! Congratulations. I think the high dollar pumps are made by Borg Warner now??? A lot of folks run the cheaper pumps without any issue except mounting. I think you have to use rubber to compensate the difference in size for the mounting. They're a little louder too from what I've read but who cares, you'll have a header and 2.5" exhaust soon.- Weber selection and initial jet tuning
You can mill it down. My cam kit came with all .190s. They're getting scarce I guess but a machine shop could get it down to size. Or for just one you may can get it down with a flat file. Is it flat on bottom or have the dimple like the originals?- The area you call garage ....
"Man cave" big or small but cozy and dark. Some are damp also. Har de har har- Alabama's the new Detroit/Michigan
Yep they squished the unions, thank goodness. My Dad worked as a union guy with Goodyear for 40 plus years. Really jaded his outlook on life in my opinion. Paid interest on new cars and refinancing his home his whole life, could have built a lot more wealth but didn't see it thanks to the rubber workers union. Good help after wwII but no good in the 70s, 80s & 90s. My opinion only. All the tractor driving farmers are driving tractor trailers now hauling car parts. I may end up doing that myself. Too old to work construction anymore. Life sucks at 50 if you're unprepared like me. TELL YOUR KIDS! Cool is not cool when you hit mid-life.- Alabama's the new Detroit/Michigan
The German bier I've gotten from a family member stationed there I had to drink with a spoon it was so thick. Fantastic taste but like syrup. Wish he was still there, it was good and STRONG!- Alabama's the new Detroit/Michigan
Hopefully it won't end the same way. We have Mercedes Benz, Honda, Hyundai and now Toyota and Mazda. Maybe Nissan will jump in? Uneducated assembly line workers for minimum wage, YEA! Porsche employees have engineering degrees, Honda; a GED - Weber selection and initial jet tuning
