  1. google.com shows Nissan parts all over ebay. https://www.google.com/search?q=backup+light+switch+for+my+280z+5+speed&rlz=1C1BOFA_enUS494US494&oq=backup+light+switch+for+my+280z+5+speed&aqs=chrome..69i57&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
  2. Grab the differential and see if you have any movement up and down at the nose, smaller end by the driveshaft. The rubber wears out on the differential support and makes a thumping noise. Yours still has the sticker so I'd think it's been replaced since 1972? Can't advise on the strap, never fooled with one of those.
  3. I've always heard "quench" but now I see there is a 'squish" also. "The quench area is the tight area between the flat portion of the piston and the flat portion of the combustion chamber in a typical wedge-style chamber. ... With a flat-top piston, this squish area can be very tight. This is also the tightest clearance between the piston and the cylinder head. http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/engines-drivetrain/94138-piston-head-clearance-guide/
  4. Thanks for the compliments. ? He sales black powder coated bumpers also. I have read the fiberglass black bumpers are far from perfect but that was a few years ago when i wanted some. i actually ordered the black powder coated ones from futofab but they were on backorder for awhile. he cut me a deal on the chrome and i'm so pleased with them now I'm glad they weren't available. The shiny finish around my windows plus the wheels I bought brought it all together like a nice suit. Go down to about half page to see the black bumpers. http://www.futofab.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=131&Itemid=118#front_black
  5. You could remove the radiator drain and run a hose pipe into the top of the radiator, balance the flow and let it idle for a few minutes to see if it overheats. This is a 240 diagram but it should help.
  6. Nice! I bought my thin bumpers from futofab.com, no holes or rubber just nice straight shiny chrome. He has a Black Friday sale that's a pretty good deal if you can wait.
  7. Looks great! What's that pink thing under your toolbox? Does it say "coolant rack"? Cheapo phone isn't too good at zoom. Bama Zama
  8. My favorite to stop rust in its tracks.
  9. Bass test for Sweaty. ?

I found this but don't want to register. You might give it a try. http://tyboomakbook.org/download.php?title=1972-datsun-240z-owners-manual.pdf
  11. To add to Zed Head's informative post. A cheap can of keyboard cleaning spray, $.99, is a good cooling spray. The magnetic do hickey. Good read on rebuilding one, lots of info. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributorrebuild/index.html

Don't know if you've seen this already but it's a pretty neat read on the choke handles. I learned something new for the day.

SCRANTON, Pa. — A Pennsylvania man has been charged with homicide after admitting to cutting the brakes of his girlfriend’s car so he could obtain a metal pipe to use to smoke crack cocaine, police said. Jenkins thought cutting anything under the vehicle would be fine for smoking crack, although he has no knowledge of cars, according to reports.

You'll end up buying it! That '77 won't last too long at the rate you are going.

I agree with Zed, most likely a broad powerband cam profile. I've always read that EFI 280s don't do too well with a "hot" cam.
  16. He said he has strong exhaust fumes but it pops through the AFM so I'd do what Bob says above, shows us your tips. ?

    I was thinking the same.
  18. Was it a bad pump or fuel regulator, maybe a cruddy tank? Your fix can help us all in the future.
  19. And from all I've read the fuel tweak corrects the ECU's OHMZ or resistance? to the coolant sensor. When you've got an extra hour this thread is a good read and might light a bulb in your head. https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37549-purs-like-a-kitten/
  20. I'll let the smart members read all the charts but when my '77 had very similar problems I was able to fix it for a $5 volume knob from Radio Shack. Mine ran like crap up to about 2,500RPM then pull really good. Here's where i got the idea. Many have done this so hopefully they can offer better advice. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/tempsensorpot/index.html I think you'll need the thermotine sensor to function. That could be the reason for the rich exhaust fumes.
  21. Welcome to the forum. It's a great way to pass the time when the TV makes you miserable. Congratulations on your gift. I wish I could do that but I'm stingy with my toys. My Mother can hardly get out of mine. Not because she likes it so much but because it's so low to the ground. And boy do I hate the way she slams the door but it takes her back to an earlier time and I can buy another window.
  22. I forgot Sweaty's theme for this thread, "relaxing with a few PBRs", sorry.

I agree with Charles. You can spend a ton of money and time "while your at it". Mine aren't award winners but I could drive them from coast to coast without worry. Probably wear a gas mask to keep from falling asleep though.

EDIT, I'm sorry 240zrubberparts. I jumped the gun, mine look different than yours. I read from the bottom, up. Those look like the ones I bought locally at the dealership, next day of course. They fit the two holes at the bottom of the deck lid. ID is about 1 1/2". OD is at 1 3/4". Ask really nicely availability on the number. Sometimes they are surprised and say they'll have it tomorrow. Good luck.
