its how the body/frame shop i worked at back in the early 80's did it except the tools they used were more refined.

take a piece of 2x4 wood and pound a nail in it. jack up your tire place the nail tight up against the tire and spin the tire to score a line in the tire with the nail. set the car down so its level and roll it back and forth a bit then measure front and back. i have cut down tie rods in the past. it was on a rhd rack that was brand new never used datsun. to this day i don't know which datsun it went to but the inner tie rods and outer were very close. grinding 1/4" off the tie rod end made them identical to my 280 tie rods.

here is a side by side comparison. i'de bet the cooling is way better with the zx but fitting it is another matter. plumbing should be able to use zx copper lines. i purchased this one off ebay for 25 bucks. they can be had for cheap.

L3N71 VS 3N71 one is more dished for the larger torque converter.

any year up to 1981 will work. 3N71 jatco's all used the same flex plate. in 82 they went to a locking torque converter L3N71 which has a different flex plate

Im not a big fan of bondo. I've had it fail many times in the past and thats on hard stable metal surfaces. Putting it over a foam surface just doesn't seem like it will last a long time. Plus, if you live in a high humidity area how would it hold up with that pourous surface beneath soaking up moisture? I'm more a fan of fiberglass and then bondo over the top. Yea i know its a sob sanding but maybe a compromise would be tiger hair bondo?

put it out in the sun to heat for a few hours. push downwards on the weatherstrip. It should move down to where you need it. also ive noted that the aftermarket gaskets take a few days to flatten and stretch out completley. there is a difference between the 2+2 and coupe weatherstrips but other people have used them and they work.

It would be nice to know what car the ones you have came off of. Those are definately not from a 70-78. Any markings on them? They give better protection for the inner fender because they're one piece and water can't splash around them like the original set. If they fit good i'de just fiberglass over the cracks. My replacement set is cracking too only after a few years. Hard to find ones that aren't cracked. It would be real easy to make up fiberglass molds for these or glass completely over the top of the plastic.

Tire sizes have grown also. 13" and 14" inch rims used to be standard. That makes cars taller. Headlights have also gotten alot brighter. With these taller vehicles and super bright lights shining right in my car, I have to use my sun visor to keep from being blinded. All they see when they pass me must be my teeth glowing as i cuss at them.

Current bid is 15,000 usd on this rb26 swap of questionable condition and workmanship. On ebay it would probably go for 8-12k. Take that silly 432 wannabe badge off and it may go for more. This is an example of the lower end of the market there. Bottom line is if it doesn't look and smell like brand new the Japanese won't pay top dollar for anything. They don't like old used stuff. ??????????????????????? - ????!

the color in the can looks different than that sprayed in the engine compartment. Looks more green. lighting? transparent color? Whats in the can looks good. maybe spray a fender to get a better look?

Was a compression/leakdown test ever done?

You do not have to prepare the "inside" just brush down the outside and apply flux. Apply heat from a propane torch until is hot and melts the solder upon contact with the radiator. But if you don't want to try the repair yourself, there must be a radiator shop within driving distance to you. As for the trans cooler, I really doubt that stock cooler inside the radiator is very effective at removing heat. There are other datsuns that use the same jatco trans and don't have the cooler.

Had a good laugh when you pointed out the date on that original post. My god if that was the price back then i had better stock up on parts now. With a double digit inflation rate i don't think i can afford to drive mine in 10 years.
