  2. Hi Craig Joseph here. I did a little research into mirrors fitted to "Australian" spec cars a few years ago. The mirrors you currently have fitted to your car are correct for the very early cars sent to Australia. I believe that they may have been fitted either on the dock or by dealerships; the cars may have been shipped with the holes drilled in the fenders and rubber/plastic blanking plugs fitted. The black bullet type mirrors were original/correct for the later cars till about 72 when the standard door fitted chrome mirror was used through 72/73. The black bullet type mirrors are now NLA from Nissan. The chrome bullet mirrors you see on ebay etc are for a 1600 and not for a Z. While they could be fitted they are not the same height as the original black version. Hope this helps. Joseph

  5. Hi Kats Thanks for thinking of me and also thanks for posting the Nissan part number of the particular hose as I requested. Do you have any smart ideas as to how to make a copy of the other master vac hose; ie the one which runs from the check valve to the balance tube? Any ideas as to a hose which I could use? Joseph
  6. Hi Kats The master vac hose which you have for your Z432 looks to be the same for the RHD specification 240-Z. I am very interested to know what the Nissan part number of the "fuel hose" is which you used to make your reproduction. If you could please post the details at your convenience it would be appreciated. Thanks again Joseph
  7. Although this doesnt pertain to the interior of the car, what about the little plastic grease reservoir which is on the steering rack? Anyone playing with this one at the moment? Joseph

  9. Hi Kats Those copy radiator hoses look beautiful; any plans for Mr Nishi to remake them for the S30? The bottom radiator hose for the 432 looks the same as the S30, does it not? I am sure there would be a large market for the copy hoses, but will it take away from the "specialness" of cars like Kats and Bob Speights 72? Joseph
  10. Hi Stephen Many thanks for making the effort to post a scan of the article in question. Hi Chris Does seem to be the same car IMO. Owners name in both articles is Todd and, from memory as I havent read the article which you posted for some time, it mentions that Pierre arranged a set of original style wheels and hubcaps, along with air filter etc, in order to prep the car for the article which you have posted. Kats/Everyone I believe my RHD car has the garage feature of the ignition switch that you speak of but, what is interesting, is that is is not shown in the Datsun 240Z Sports Owner's Manual which was supplied with the car, dated as issued 1st August 1971 (0800050) with a publication No. of oM1E-0S30G2. I am assuming that this publication was as supplied to the LHD market because on page 10 which is devoted to the instrument and controls there is a picture of the dash and the steering wheel is shown on the LH side. There is no hand throttle shown in this picture either, but it is shown on page 13 of the same publication under the heading of "Throttle Control Lever". "By pulling the throttle control lever backward, the engine revolution is maintained at the same rpm without depressing down the accelerator pedal. This lever is retainable in any desired position". The hand throttle control lever is also clearly shown in the picture on page 15 discussing the rear window electric defroster, another feature that none of our cars seem to have fitted. Also of interest is page 17, section titled "Driving with Manual Transmission", which shows a picture of a 5 speed shift knob and 5th gear is also listed in the table of appropriate speed range in each gear. Another anomoly but in the opposite direction! Hope this is of interest. Joseph
  15. Hello All I just finished installing replacement/believed correct wiper/headlight and turnsignal swithes on my 09/71 240-Z and have only one speed of wipers working, the low speed. All else seems fine except for the high wiper speed. Note the switch installed is one without the intermittent wiper setting (my wiper motor only has five wires to it). The switches which I have now removed were a matched pair from a 260-Z (intermittent wiper function and pass button at end of indicator stalk). They had been installed with the use of what I will call an "adaptor harness" rather than hacking up the original wiring harness of the car (thanks someone). I did not install these and they were there on the car when I purchased it. The intermittent setting never worked nor did the pass button but I did have two speeds of wipers with these now removed switches. I believe that all of the wiring on the harness is correct and hasnt been modified as all of the connections were used. There is one wire which isnt used and that is a thin wire on the turn signal three pronged small plug; the harness connector for this has three wires while the corresponding switch connector only has two wires. The turn signal switch has the separate green wire with the spade bit for the power. The turn signals seems to work OK, although a little '****y'. I assume this may be worn contacts in the switch (is this able to be repaired??). I initially thought the same for the wipers, but this didnt make sense as the low speed works fine and I would assume that this setting would be used more frequently than the high setting...hmmm, we are talking 240-Z wipers! Lights are fine both low and high beam. I am in Australia and dont know if there was any difference in this specific wiring between the LHD and RHD models. If anyone is able to offer any help in maybe tracing the wiring from the wiper motor through to the switch or offer any ideas of what to check for it would be appreciated.   17. Hi Guys Felt it best to chime in on this thread. A few years ago I also discovered the no-laces boot as used on the early cars. I have a friend here in Australia whom had one of these, albeit deteriated. He allowed me to borrow it and also unpick it completely as it is otherwise trash. I took it to a local auto upholestery specialist and had a replica made. I would have to say that IMO it is a very close match to the original, right down to the grain pattern of the vinyl and also the trim ring around the top which sits around the metal shift lever. If there is interest shown I am more than willing to show some photographs of this. While it wasnt cheap I am also willing to look into having more made. I have two at this time and the first ones wernt cheap as the pattern had to be made. Let me know, waiting to hear. Regards Joseph

If they dont have the replacement mast available you may have to exercise your patience a little as they do appear on USA ebay from time-to-time. I hope this helps you out. Joseph

I find the picture which Jack posted earlier in this thread of his original 1971 240-Z very interesting in relation to my posting thread some time ago now regarding the fitment of external rear view mirrors to the 'Australian' market 240-Z cars (note the quotes around Australian). This one seems to have some kind of 'mirror delete' grommets fitted to the front fenders or wings. I am hoping that Jack has some time to post some information in regards to these. I also live the white walls on this car. Thanks for posting this pic Jack and if you have some time I would like to hear more in regards to the mirror deletes. Joseph
  20. I am not sure if this helps but my RHD car, dated 09/71, exhibits the remains of this one only sticker. I have seen a picture of RHD VIN#004 when it was new and it had NO air box stickers. Joseph

Hello All For correctness sake, I would like to ask what is the correct way to route the two choke cables through the firewall and what is the subsquent correct way to orientate the associated choke cable grommet? Do the choke cables route through the firewall one on top of the other or side by side? I would also like to ask what is the difference between the 'early' and the 'late' style of choke cable grommet. Wicks book lists that he uses a 'late' style grommet which he comments as not being correct for his 1970 model year car. I have my suspicions but would like some confirmation. Thanks for any replies/pics. Joseph
  22. It may be a good idea to compile a list of both LHD and RHD editions of the parts books which were made. I have recently purchased a RHD copy dated December 1972 and it shows as being the third revision (assume to the RHD specific cars). Joseph
  23. Hey Kats (All) Sorry for the delayed reply to your request. I have been struggling to get a clear shot of the stampings, please find attached the best pic I am able to do. I made an error in my initial posting, guess that is what happens when you rely on your ageing memory! The stamping is DATE 08, there is no U. If you look at the pic, this stamping is seen directly to the RHS as viewed on the screen of the round stamping in the middle section of the horn, the inner section is the centre, most raised section and the outer section is the lowest section. This stamping is a stamping into the metal rather than ink. I hope this helps. Joseph
