Alright so this is my first official smoke. Last week we really just grilled. This week is ribs. We were out of town yesterday and came home and prepped the meat last night. A thin coat of olive oil and this rub on both sides 1tbsp Cumin 1tbsp Paprika 1tbsp granulated garlic 1tbsp granulated onion 1 tbsp chili powder 1 tbsp brown sugar 2 tbsp Kosher salt 1 tsp cayenne pepper 1 tsp black pepper 1 tsp white pepper Mix it all up dry. Refrigerate over night. I didn't get them out early enough to get to room temperature. Started at 10 AM Made some mods to the cooker per you tube and Google Clamps, silicone to seal it up and seal at the doors. Borrow a ThermoPro TP-08 from a friend

Thanks, Guys Philip, I might try the ice at some point but I already have a bunch of Meguiars products and find it easier to only learn one product line. It is nice to know there are some options that seem pretty easy to use. Our cars might actually get waxed if that's the case. I guess I will have to wash them too...
  3. Will your meter handle in the 1000's of volts? I am not sure mine will...

Jim So this doesn't turn white on the rubber and seals? I like Meguiars products. Does this show if you get it on the trim? I have used traditional paste wax for years but am looking for something a little more forgiving

I need some of the resident experts to give me some pointers on car wax. what do you use? Do you like it? In the past I have always used paste waxes, many of which have abrasives in them. Is that the way to go? I don't like them for the reason if you get them on to rubber it can be difficult to get the hazing back off the rubber. Liquid waxes???
  7. Did you really mean 4 minutes? Is that all the fuel in the jar after 4 minutes? I would think it should pump a lot more than that in 4 minutes
  8. My oldest son was interested in getting an Aston Martin and I started looking for them at the salvage auctions. I could get one for about 12k or so and could probably have it finished for under 20k but the parts are stupid. Brake rotors are $1,250 a corner etc. ,etc. I told him you could pay for the car but you can't afford to drive it! A DIY brake job is close to $6,000, unreal...
  9. Dragging an Aston Martin off the ferry. Got to hate that. Understandable on the 40+ year old car but the Aston is much newer and much more expensive!
  10. That's sharp! Seamless, literally! If I ever get to see your car in person I will have to break out my mirror to check out the effects of OCD up close and personal Seriously it looks great. Like it came out of a hot rod shop. The floor boards turned out really good. No one would believe the work you did with out "before" pictures...
  11. @ksechler I enjoyed following you do your car. How are your fender flairs holding up? They turned out nice...
  12. Thanks Rich, I have slowed down a lot in the last few years so hopefully we can avoid those kind of interactions. But it will be hard to be discreet. CO, The wheels on hinges are round but they have so much paint on them now I don't know if they will rotate or not. We will see...

    Thanks guys
  14. The header is not going to lower under hood temperatures. Did you remove the rubber lines? You need to start trying multiple things. Don't reverse one just because it's not a full solution. Keep adding things to reduce heat until the issue goes away...
  15. Too true. He does have fabulous metal skills! My wife wanted it yellow. It's really her car. When we first went to the paint shop. She took a yellow Lily out of our yard and told them she wanted that color of paint. They handled it well... We went through several shades before settling on this one. Yellow is a challenge though because it tends to be very transparent so the color under it makes a huge difference. I shoot white base coat first or the yellow color shade changes

Thanks for the pointers. I think we will develop our own rub. Pretty much all of the rubs have MSG in them and I would like to avoid that. That's a pretty neat idea with the terracotta pots Yeah, that's part of the problem I was hoping for some experienced feedback to narrow down the options. This group has a bunch of very intelligent, handy people. A perfect resource for a project like this... That's a neat technique. Do you just preheat then oven then cut it off? Brisket is always good! and I can come down and check up on you.

That looks good. Yes, I know...I have a large pit and use to do a big cook for about 60 people but haven't done that in years. I still need to tweak the pit and get a digital thermometer. I tend to learn by trial and error. I thought I would start with some easier pieces of meat. Maybe some ribs... What are you using for a rub? What are you cooking on? Run time? Cooking all unwrapped or wrapping near the end? What are you burning? Thanks, Chris I have wanted to go back to charcoal for a while. I cooked for the family while out in Texas at my mother in laws on her charcoal grill. The gas grill in the back ground is all but rotted out so it was time to replace it. We heat with wood so I aught to be able to come up with some good wood for smoking... Looking forward to learning...

EVO is whiskey? Just finishing up grilling. The veggies, tenderloins and pork chops are already done. My youngest daughter wanted shrimp...

@siteunseen Do you need bail money today? @Mark Maras What about these ribs? As it's the fourth I thought I would tap some of you BBQ'ers to teach me this talent. I bought a new smoker this week. I have never done any smoking but as my wife is from Texas and I love brisket I thought I should learn. I would also like to learn to do ribs. So learn me something!
  22. Did you ever try rubber fuel lines or running with the hood popped open? You need to identify a solution then make it pretty!
  23. The car looks good. It looks pretty well finished. What else do you have to do to it?
  24. Thanks Wheee The metal work is not at Disepyon standards, but I have gotten better at it as I've gone along and I have a better welder now than earlier which helps a lot
