Braided raidator hose kit for 240Z finally arrived!!!!!!
Well, here are my before and after pics or the radiator hoses. I removed the naked ones and put on the new braided ones from Espirit. The braided hoses were very nice and flexible. I did have to cut about an inch off the top radiator hose to get the right natural curve. Now the only thing that needs the fix are the two heater hoses. I am still operating with the original braided brake booster hoses, EGR, and fuel hoses. The brake booster hoses are pretty stiff and a bit frayed as is the EGR, but the fuel hoses are still supple and appear to be in great shape (not braided but appear cloth re-inforced). Think I'll put the bare hoses up on e-bay. They are only 1 year old.

DHM Car Show and Swap Meet
Anybody planning on going to this? I'll be there. Was debating on which Z to take. Will most likely take the 70 only 'cause it needs to be taken out for a run. She's getting a little antsy. Hopefully I can pick up a nice drivers side fender there for my 71Z. My current one has a rust hole in the base (bondo'd now) and I'd like to replace before painting. Plan is to paint the 71 Z similar to the color shown on the Z below. The car show is people's choice (which I hate:sick:). Nice event to socialize at though. Good way to start 2010. Rich

Interior overspray.
Lacquer thinner works far better than paint thinner. It is serious stuff. I use it to remove the overspray on most parts. I do like to condition the rubber or vinyl afterwords with vinyl/leather conditioner.

Whats your Z plan for 2010?
I have way too many Z plans this year, but I will start off with a small list: For the 70Z: I will replace the engine radiator hoses and heater hoses with braided hose when Espirit makes them available. Nothing else will be touched. I will bring the car to the MSA West Coast Nationals and will also try to get it to Nashville for the ZCON. Otherwise, she will nest in her cocoon. For the 71Z: The plan is to paint the car Nissan yellow (same color as current 370Z) at the end of Feb or early March. I am planning on spending 4 days stripping the car of almost everything (engine, glass, etc) and taking a rolling chassis to Maaco for the paint job. I then plan to go through the car replating bolts and cleaning parts. Very happy with the interior and the way the car is running. Now just need to make it look pretty. Will continue to look for a nice 70Z with original engine on Craigslist here in SD to add as another project. You can never have too many projects. Rich

...Definitely unique, but not sure how it will handle in the corners. Of course a good paint job will cure just about anything! Rich

Tokico strut and spring kit.
Yes, with the Tokico springs (I am assuming 5020's) no spring compressor required. Had them on my 71 at one time. Rich

Cam and crank timing
Also, the position of the rod that goes from the oil pump to the cam gear to the distributor is very important. The key for the distributor must be as shown in the picture at engine TDC. This will make timing easy. Make sure it is not 180 out. Rich

240z bre tribute on ebay
Seems to be a lot of differences between the two cars: Exhaust sytem, Sac car is lowered, window tinting, rubber on bumper, different tires, engine bay color, decals, Bre on Sac spolier, Datsun on SD spoiler,..etc. I am sure there is more i am missing

240z bre tribute on ebay
It is a different car. Here is the San Diego car. Also, I remember the engine bay was white on the SD car. Both cars are beautiful on the outside...both really need and engine bay resto. Rich

Eastwood Tin-Zinc Plating kit
Well, I got my plating kit early. Actually, got the Caswell hardware and manual on e-bay for $43 total (includes shipping). Such a deal, I couldn't pass it up. It's used, but everything seems to be in working order. I ordered the chemicals on-line and should have everything by early next week. The cost of the chemicals is actually fairly cheap. The shipping costs are more than the actual materials cost. The most expesnsive item was the yellow chromate from Caswell. Not sure if I can get this cheaper somewhere else, but will check into it. I cleaned up the garage a bit and set aside an area for the plating buckets. I also made a rotating 'bucket' for plating quantities of nuts and bolts. I hope to try my hand at plating as soon as the chemicals come in. Perhaps by the end of next week. I will post pics of the progress. Also, here are a couple sites that are pretty helpful with plating info. http://www.thisoldtractor.com/gtbender/zinc.htm http://www.nulltime.com/zincplating/index.html Rich

Who has owned their Z the longest?
on the 3/70 Z that I now have, My father was the original owner for 39 years. I have now had it (registered to me) for 8 months. Not sure if that counts for anything. Rich
