Strong fuel smell in the car when I turn LEFT
Well this is where we are at. What you do not see are the straps that have been sanded smooth and repainted black. Also missing is some 1/4" fuel line which I totally forfot to pick up. That is on the agenda for tomorrow. Also had to source some bolts for the evap tank. M5-.8 I think is what I got. They fit wonderfully. Since it was a welded in place nutplate in the wheel well, no need for any nuts. Hoping this will all go together okay. I will spend some cleaning up the OEM hose clamps as best I can. They tend to be much happier after a spray with some WD-40. More to come as I get this thing assembled. I am thinking I may put in my RT diff mount while I am here though. I just PORed that and bought a bump stop for the install.

Strong fuel smell in the car when I turn LEFT
I finished up on the tank yesterday. I decided to go with some chassis black spray paint over the POR. THe original tank only had spray paint on it and it lasted 41 years with little to no rust. I used VHT high temp Chassis black. I have good luck with VHT on things that I want more durable than just plain spray paint. I found out that latex glove fingers make for great fuel line plugs. Next step is to find some rubber for my straps. AND some rubber for my tank pads. AND some 3/4" fuel line.

Strong fuel smell in the car when I turn LEFT
here is a pic from my phone of the gas tank. The inside is completely YELLOW with the coating. I have to check to make sure it is not obstructed or blocked, but I am relatively sure it will be fine. now I have to decide how to protect the outside of the tank. I will Either POR it, or just prime and paint it. But as you can see, there is old factory paint on the tank. Do I have to remove that before I POR it?

bolts to cover holes from removed bumperettes
Well I ordered some chrome bolts form zcarsource to try to cover the holes in my bumper. Not sure how it looks without bumperettes. I mean I like the clean look, but I need to get the bumpers totally redone to make it look right. You can tell where the bumperettes should be. The chrome is brighter and the rubber side molding looks like it was pressed up against the chrome. I think I may have to leave them on until it is time to redo both bumpers.

VTO Le Mans Wheel.. anybody try these yet?
would it be possible to order one wheel? Or do you only sell sets? I have to see these in person before I drop nearly 800 bucks on a set of rims that I may not like as much as my panasports...

Strong fuel smell in the car when I turn LEFT
My solution to the pads on the top of the tank hit me by surprise last night as I was straightening things in the garage. Behold my Genius... They are a hard rubberish material, I do not think they hold water, very tough yet giving. I will check to see if they hold any water and if not, they offer a perfect hard rubber to compress against.

Strong fuel smell in the car when I turn LEFT
All my new parts are on order. One thing I am left wondering is how do I get new rubber parts for the top of the tank and the tank straps? I figured I can get some thin rubber at the local home depot, but the thicker rubber on top is sure not to survive the tank dipping process that is going on now. speaking of which, they said they can line the tank with a teflon based coating. I told them to go ahead, as he said it was resistant to all modern fuels. they are also going to braze the tube fitting and pressure test the tank for me. The cost of the dipping, pressure testing, rebrazing, and coating... 95 dollars at the local radiator shop. Not bad. when I get it back, I will just POR the outside and start running hoses where they should. I picked up a set of fuel tank grommets for all the fuel lines going to my evap tank (zcarsource had a 71) and I got a new sending unit and oring while I was at it. This should turn out pretty well. I looked at my hoses from Courtesy, and they are the soft cloth braided kind. You have to wonder how old those hoses are. They feel perfectly pliable, but when was the last time Nissan made those hoses. Hopefully they will be okay. I will shoot some pictures today of what I have.

Arne answers questions.
Arne, I will be sad to see you go man. Your car and my car may have been made on the same day they were so close. Your advice has always been helpful to me and I appreciate everything you have done. I just have one other thing to say. Alfa GTV 1750

A good tranny jack is not a wasted purchase either. It can make other jobs VERY easy as well. Like say dropping a fuel tank!

The great TEXAS Z Car (and foreign Car) rally - 2011
Okay, I have established permission from the country airport manager to have our carshow on the ramp in front of the hotel. We can work out the details, but in general, it is limited to 60 cars, which I am sure we will not get close to. There is no fee. But it is contingent on if they are still using this airport as a forest fire fighting location. I will keep track of this up until the day of the car show.

okay folks. I am taking the tank to the shop either today or tomorrow. I will post pictures of it as soon as I can. Also, my hoses came in from courtesy. I have decided to run all the proper hoses again. It will take me longer to get everything just right, but the car will be back to stock again!

I would wager that if they held up to Adams Roadster around Laguna Seca...they would be fine for us.
