  1. The last time I had the same problem I just had to use a small drill and drill around the broken "eazy out" . They are as hard as your drills maybe harder and if you cant loosen it and back it out, I dont know of another option, do use P B BLASTER on the bolt and let them soak a while first. Good luck Gary

that was the best discription of the car that I have heard the "golden toad " that hits the nail on the head. And I agree about being thankful it wasent a 240. They can just go get another toad.
  3. This was once a James Bond car and if you push the red button with someone in the drivers seat , it will eject them through the sun roof. I forgot to mention that to you when you were showing me the car and asked why some one would do that to the roof. Could come in handy if Ozzy tries to drive the car away while you are checking the oil or something. Zappo and she is gonezo!! Scanlon dosen't even have one of those. I asked him. Brian , I hope you and yours have a great Christmass . Gary P.S. he ordred one from JC whitney to put on the roadster.

It sounds like you are either too lean in the settings or that you have too thin of oil in the carb. dampeners. Do try 20wt in any event , in santa rosa that should be pirfect for all year long. You can find it at a Motor Cycle shop . Ask for fork oil . All the best to you and y ours
  5. Well the only problem is that I would need to pick it up and it is 3500 miles away . But it would have made a good story.

Like the man said check the timing first . If it is ok then ballance the carbs and check that the mixture isnt too lean , it could be a lean pop. Check the oil in the domes , and add if necessary with 20wt if you have it . Other wise try 10-30 untill you can buy some 20wt fork oil. One other thing you dident list where you are. If in cold area how does it run with the choke on ??
  7. Hard to believe but a 240 just sold on e-bay for $9.00 th ats nine dollars and it has a tripple webber set up on a running engine ti has about 10 mins. to go !
  8. I have never see so many roadsters! Where is this show held and is it held every year? Also the time of year. You have some really great shots . Thanks for sharing .

  10. This is what I had hoped the 350 would have looked like accept for the large holes in the hood , I still want a rear wheel driven front engine car. The roundness abulbis look isnt for me. My 240 is going to have to last a long time ! Has any one seen the new MARANO I saw a picture of the right rear 1/4 pannel of one , looks interesting with the 240 hp v-6 . Nissan is sturring things up with this years cars.
  11. One more thing that was mentioned ealier here , If DATSUN was in his terms an important name in the Company like was said , I doubt that they would use it on a cheep line of cars . Maby what he had in mind was to bring back the Z as a Datsun 350-Z ,, what do you think of that. All this is guessing but what else can we do. I think it would be great for all of us Z drivers .
  12. Mark, I just bought a '82zx engine , that is a flat top piston engine . It has t he head milled 30k and is running 9 to 1 comp. so it is a 54 block and has a 79 head and from what the "experts" tell me this is THE combo. for a nonturbo engine. We shall see! '81,'82 & '83 .
  13. Hay good to hear another one on the road. Before doing rewireing contact escanlon he is the guru on these cars ! keep it to your self ! dont pass it on because he will get a swelled head. When it comes to the carbs look to Z therpy Bruce knows these things in and out . If you have never had SUs before do your self a favor and get a UNI-Sen from your local speed shop and ballance the carbs . Cant get along with out it! The best $25. you have ever spent , well unless you have been to the "Chicken Ranch" but that's another story. Enjoy the ride!
  14. there was a county western song by that name " There are tears in my ears from lying on my back crying over you " Well at least it was close.
  15. I agree with escanlon , I have an auto also and when I bought the car the firsthing I was going to do was drop in a 5 speed. Now having driven the car for two years , if I were to change trannys, I will look to a maxama 4 speed and not an stick. The auto is a pleasure to drive especially in traffic, and in the twisties it works vary well . I guess it amounts to what ever floats your boat. I will give you this it leaves somthing to be desired off the line.
  16. James, on the rx pump be SURE that it is from a NON fuel injected car! To justaZcarguy , you need to get a shorter name, try typing your name fast on a chat lilne .Scanlon can because he types 200 words an min I hope to do 100 an hour. glad you got the black car going and good to hear your wife is doing better. Old guy
  17. The best , of cource is new from Nissan , but they are vary expensive , at least I think so , $230.00 + . What I have done is this, at the Bone yard look for a RX-7 that is NOT fuel injected I think mine is from a '79 . Not sure of the year but as long as it is from a carbed engine, and you are good to go. Mine was $15.00. Now Motor Sports sell one for $65.00 and they say that it will do the job. You can get one at the local parts store but the ones that I have seen there are so noisy , sounds like there going to rattle apart. The RX-7 pump delivers plenty of pressure and volume. I havent tested mine with a gage but if I remember right I read that they deliver from 3 to 4 lbs. and like the origional they just make a wherrring sound.
  18. The one reason for using the electric pump is then you can get rid of the "foil asbestos" crap that is around the fuel rail. The electric pump will pump fuel from the cool tank and eliminates the problem with vapor-lock in the summer . At least it really helps , the fuel rail passing over the hot exhaust manifold can heat the fuel in the line and can cause it to boil and vaporize "vapor -lock " the engine mounted pump is also heated from the engine and can add to the problem and it cant pump vapor well, so the electric pump was added to help eliminate this by bringing cool fuel forward and the extra fuel is returned to the tank . Another thing is if you ever run out of gas the electric pump will pick up the fuel right away and eliminate the need to grind away on the starter waiting for the mechanical pump to get the gas from the tank. If you add a electric pump it's best to put an inline filter before the pump to keep the crud out of the pump. I believe all the Zs were wired for a electric pump from the factory . I dont know about '70 but after that every one I have seen was.

another thing that it will help to stop is vapor lock , because the fuel is pumped from the tank and what isn't used is returned to the tank , and not left in the line to heat up and boil. That is why Datsun added the electric pump, mostly to stop vapor lock in the summer. The fuel rail passing over t he exhost manifould was wrapped with asbotoses to try and stop the heat. I have driven my 240 this past summer in 115 degree heat and had on problem even in traffic.

justazcarguy is running triple Mukuneys , I know that is not the way it is spelled , any way , he is not having any trouble. Like was stated if the filters are clean the volume is there.
  21. If the mech. pump is bad and you add a new electric unit you may vary well be pumping fuel into the crankcase! If the diaphram in the engine mounted unit is faulty fuel will pass through the hole. You can eliminate the engine mounted pump altogether and just run the electric. This is what I am doing.
  22. If the mechanical pump is faulty there is a vary good possability that if the diaphram is bad that fuel is running into the crankcase! Now that being said and something to look out for. If you need to replace the electric pump and have an access to a bone yard , find a Masda RX-7 that is NOT fuel injected. You should be able to get one for about $15.00 and they work just as good and the Datsun unit. Just be sure it is for a carberated car. This will be a low pressure pump.
  23. I am sure there are good paint shops in the area , just look for a good body shop that does custom stuff and not just the pannel replacements . go to a few car shows and ask around . When you see a really cool looking paint job on a car , ask who did the work . soon you will be hear ing the same names over and over again . Check them out, they wont be cheep but you get what you pay for.
  24. Has anyone ever heard of a cam called " Arson " or something like that ? I don't know if it is a Brand name or a model. Any info. will help . Thanks
