  2. Ok, so today I ventured out in a new direction. A container of wintergreen oil. About 4 oz of oil in 3 gallons of oil. Ran it over a propane burner. It never really boiled sort of simmered things for about 45 minutes. I started with a gas cap seal. It was really hard when I started... This is it when it came out So then I stepped up to a filler neck. These are really hard. I suspect the gas fumes make the rubber hard. These were too hard to get back into the chassis So simmer for about 45 minutes. Had to turn it over because it was too tall for the pot. Results were fabulous!!!! Indulgences for the videos. It's my first try at "You tube"
  3. I used the fel pro rear main and side seals on the first motor which was a 2.8, they don't leak but those side seals are crap compared to Nissan's in my opinion. I used Nissan on the 2nd 2.4 motor. side seals, 12289-W0400 $1.50 each from my parts guy rear crank seal, 12279-2B500 $30 from my guy I've got more Nissan numbers if you need them. I went with Nissan on all the big stuff, rear main, oil pan, manifold. But the Fel Pro kit for all the other small stuff because it's so cheap. A lot of the parts come with their own gaskets, oil pump, water pump, timing kit. I can't remember which head gasket I used. I do remember it was different for the 240 compared to my 280. Oh yeah, turbo head bolts. 9 short ones 11056-P7600 $4 each 5 long ones, 11059-P7600 $5 each. $60 plus tax for all of them. I can not remember if they came with washers or not, sorry.
  4. Just be careful wintergreen oil is toxic. I found this on WebMD. I didn't use gloves but I did try to stay out of the steam. After I removed the parts I washed them with soap and water. Wintergreen is safe in the amounts found in foods, and seems safe for most adults when used as a medicine. The oil is UNSAFE to take by mouth. Taking wintergreen oil or large amounts of wintergreen leaf can cause ringing in the ears, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, stomach pain, and confusion. When applied directly to the skin, wintergreen oil can cause skin irritation. Special Precautions & Warnings: Children: Wintergreen leaf and oil can be poisonous for children. Taking 4-10 mL of wintergreen oil by mouth can be deadly. Don’t even use wintergreen oil on the skin of children less than 2 years old. Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Wintergreen is safe in amounts found in food, but there's not enough information to know if it's safe in the larger amounts that are used as medicine. Don’t take it by mouth or put it on your skin, if you are pregnant. If you are breast-feeding, don’t take wintergreen by mouth or put it on your skin. Wintergreen products might be toxic to nursing infants. Stomach and intestinal inflammation: Taking wintergreen by mouth might make these conditions worse. Salicylate or aspirinallergy, asthma, or nasal polyps: Wintergreen might cause an allergic reaction in people who are allergic to aspirin or other salicylate compounds, or have asthma or nasal polyps. Use wintergreen with caution if you have one of these conditions.
  5. From back towards the beginning of this thread: As with many things on this forum, we've been there before. Mike has a colour version of that Transcendental Racing/Frisselle/Morton shot.
  6. This past year my son commandeered my old turntable along with my old Harmon Kardon cassette recorder and more that a few albums, and yes, I still had them. Apparently that's how I learned how to hoard Z parts. He even orders albums and cassettes from new Inde bands. Apparently that stuff is cool again.
  7. I think I got it now. I ended up tightening each of the four screws on the dome a little at a time, checking every 1/2 turn to make sure the piston moved freely until all screws seemed snug. Now time to try and tune it.
  8. I too would go with having them turned but you may find the cost of turning them very close to buying new ones. If you have Advance auto out there check their price then go to retailmenot.com and get a 30% coupon code. Its been 8 years ago but just basic rotors were $20 each after the discount. And if I remember right that was what charged per rotor for a cut. I bought drilled and slotted from amazon but like Zed said it was for looks. You can see mine through the wheels I have. Painted remanufactured calipers red, it all looks good. The ceramic pads I used got rid of the horrible squeal all Zs I've owned have. I'll find my thread on that when u get my laptop out in the morning. Some good info on replacing the races, how to get the old ones out and seat the new ones DIY style. Torque value too.
  9. Does anyone know the torque value for the mustache bar studs? I plated mine but I can't find a value in the FSM...
