R180 Identification

Featured Replies

I opened a diff I just got with a lot of parts and it has the following stamped markings on the ring gear:

35 X A C 5 - 11

Anyone have a clue as to the ratio?

35/11 = 3.18

That would be lovely for highway cruising.  Are you selling it?

I could only find TonyD mention on HybridZ about max velocity and differential. He may know:

I can't find any else. yet

Doubt you can discern any meaning from those numbers. The ratio will be in xx:xx format, e.g. 39:10 which means a 3.9 ratio. Take another look at the ring gear.

I have looked all over that ring gear and have diffs from 3:34 to 5:38 (hill climb or stump puller). Those are the only markings.

Manually count the crownwheel teeth and pinion teeth to be sure.

As far as I am aware (and I just checked the Nissan Sports 'Final Drive & Limited Slip' factory bible to be sure) only the R200 was available with a 3.1 (actually 3.151) ratio, with a 41 tooth crownwheel and 11 tooth pinion. Lowest numerical ratio on the R180 was the 3.364.

Why are there no pictures?

Has anyone ever made aftermarket gears for the R180's?  Pretty common for other manufacturers.  Maybe it's an aftermarket gear set.

Kameari Engine Works in Japan manufactured 3.1, 4.875 and 5.1 CWP sets for the R200 when the OEM supplies dried up. Nothing for the R180, as far as I am aware.

You know, you could manually check the ratio by counting rotations to see if it lines up with Philips 3.18
