Brake tips

Ever notice you replace a brake part that requires bleeding the system, things work fine then your master cylinder craps out?The trick is to place a 2x4 or some sort of stop under the brake pedal before you start pumping to bleed the system. The master cyl.under normal operation does not go to the floor.Crud forms in the normally untouched area of the cyl. piston. When you go to the floor you damage the piston. Also ever get that slight squeak, squeak from your front brakes that stops when you just barely touch the brakes?Apply CLOTH duct tape to the brake pad(of course I mean the metal side!)and assemble as normal. It will be sandwiched between the pad and anti squeal plate.I'…

dashboards

I recently became a Z owner and had a question regarding cracked dashboards. I wanted some feedback on people's experience with the dashboard covers that are available in lieu of tearing out a working dash assembly and repairing or replacing. I know there is a half dash and a full dash cover available but are they worth the money? The full dash cover is less than a hundred bucks and the half dash is around fifty bucks. This is about the only thing in the interior that needs attention.

Got a 73Z. Engine is a giant paperweight. Will a 280Z engine work in the car. Is there quicker acceleration with the 280 engine, i.e., more torque?

I know what to do with my old oil. I can bring it to a local auto shop, recycle station, or oil-change station. But, what can I do to get rid of fuel/gas/petrol? I used to be of the 'irresponsible' type and just drain it in the street. But, there's got to be a better way to get rid of this stuff. It's not good enough quality to put in my lawnmower or other gasoline engine. In fact, it's over 15 years old and probably well settled. I've been thinking about sprinkling it out in a field behind my house. But, I don't want to put anything in danger. Any ideas?

This was a message sent to me back in 1997 by Carl Beck. It was a rip on my restoration, but, it's halarious! (I found it after sifting through the archives for something else) Go CARL!! ---------------- Hello Everyone: I know its not popular, but I feel someone must speak out here... What Mike has put on display for us, in plan and public view, is not a "restoration project"... no, no, no,... Don't let Mike fool you... it's a cry for help! :-) We have a car here, that will have to have a new VIN assigned by the State DMV... Instead of "HLS30 xxxx" - it will have be "FORD 2002" Yes FORD - Fanatic Over Restoration Done - followed by the date Mike will actually get i…

I just started a job at a car dealership and work in the storage building where they keep cars that usually don't sell in winter. I saw a Z there and didn't think much of it. Then a couple days ago I was told to work on it. It kinda grew on me and I've always wanted to start road racing and thought this would be a perfect car. I asked the owner how much I could buy it for and he said $2500. I'm starting a car collection and figured this would be a nice addition.I'm only 23 and just starting it. All I have so far is a 97 SHO, only 18000 96-99 SHO's were produced, should be worth something. Cliff notes: Found a 71 240Z, like it. I noted some things that are wrong with it.…

My IN/OUT gasket on my 73 240 has given way to blow by in a couple of spots, it was a new gasket and the manifold is straight as far as i can tell with a straight edge. It was prob caused by it not being properly torqued down. What is the proper torque for Exhaust/Intake? Is there a seq. to the tighting? What is a good gasket to use and where to get? Do the bolts and nuts need too to be grade bolts and nuts and any tips for the install? Thanks in advance for the answer to my 1000 ?'s

Hi all, Has anyone seen, built, or know where to buy a side mount engine stand for the L-series engine? I've seen pictures (in the manuals) of this side-mount stand. It would be GREAT if I could get my hands on one of these. I really hate mounting my engine where I can't get at the flywheel.

I want to buy a 83 Nissan 280zx and drop a Chevy 383 in it. But all I found were V8 conversions on Datsun 240z's. So I was wondering if the 280zx and 240z are alike inside the engine compartment?

Where is the antenna switch normally located? In my ,73 it is in the middle position on the fuse cover. I thought there was a seatbelt light there on my last car. Where is yours? -Dale-
