I have read several of the threads on no spark issues. Even the recent one where there was a short in the dizzy. The car I am working on ran a year or so ago. Went to start it up but no spark. Pull off the coil wire try to ground, no spark. Get out volt meter and have 12v at both terminals on the coil with the switch in the acc position. I read in one posts maybe by Fastwoman that the coil sparks when the "-" terminal is grounded. I tried that with a direct ground and a manual push button ground. Thought the coil might be bad (MSD). Tried another coil (unknown condition) tried a third coil (unknown condition) No spark on any of them. Thoughts, anyone? Did I understand cor…

So I've had my Z for a little over a year now and I've finally decided to address my lack of reverse lights. I upgraded my trans to an 83 and it has the sensor/switch I need to plug into....however I can seem to find the wires in the harness on the car. I'm not sure if they were wrapped up by the PO or cut or some other unknown fate. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about fixing this besides taking it to a shop and paying them to cut my Z up. And I have a 71 240z.

Morning all. I have a 240Z which I have been restoring over the past 2 years. The car came to me in various boxes. Its a late 73 240z. I have now got to the point of getting the electric back in. Engine bay loom is back in. I have the loom through the firewall and sitting on the floor with a various collection of multi plugs.. blue, black, white etc which I know connect to the dash loom and the rear loom. What is confusing me somewhat is is the relay panel. nothing was connected and nothing labeled. Has anyone a picture of the actual relays that should be on there and which wires connect to what. One or two are obvious as the wire match up. others not so. The last thing…

I recently was cleaning out under the passenger area and center console of my Z and ran across 2 things that I'm unsure of. The first was behind the console and is a twisty potentiometer type knob that's just sitting behind the console, and it doesn't appear to affect anything seen here The other is a connector that was unplugged that sits under the passenger side seat. The connector appears to go together, but im unsure of if it actually does.

I am installing a 77 wire harness into a 78. The harnesses are different and am wondering if the ECU from the 78 will work? The main difference in the harness is that the early 77's had the underhood relays positioned elsewhere, I think under the dash on the drivers side. Will using the 78 ecu work?? Also would a 2+2 harness be any different?

Exchanged the original dash bulbs with new ones. Works great except that when I reattached the lightbulb sockets into the gauge housing several of them just would light up with out twisting or turning the socket. I have all of them lighting up now, when I turn on the light switch, but if I drive over a rough road a couple of them (speedometer and tach) go out. I then need to try and twist the socket till it works, but I will have the same problem next time I drive. Are there any replacement sockets available to replace the current ones or is there any suggestion using my curent ones? Thanks.

Hi everyone, I have a 76 280z and recently the windshield wiper motor stopped working. I went to click the wipers on, and they went up maybe 1 inch, and then stopped and would not go anywhere. No matter what setting the switch is on, they stay in the same spot. If I try and move them by hand they're very resistant to moving. I checked all the fuses in the fuse box on the passanger side footwell, and despite there being a fuse for wiper motor or something that was blown, that did not fix my problem.. infact it wasnt even correctly labeled im assuming because it turned on the light above the heater controls, and made my alternator charge gauge work, and would never turn off…

In the never ending battle to get 9070 back on the road we are working on the lights. Put the relay kit and replaced every bulb in the car. Turn on the marker lights and they are great, rear side, front side and front. Nothing on the headlights. I can ground one of the wires at the turn signal switch/dimmer and they will come on. But if check the wiring that the bulb would plug into on the driver side (either side actually) I get 12v at all three pins. We swapped the dimmer and the combination switch (which fixed the wipers) and still no headlights. I have searched and found a lot of stuff but when we check coninutiy everything checks out. First where are all…

I had a bad regulator on my '77 (bouncing volt gauge) and ended up buying a new one off of BD. Oddly enough when I took the old one out, one of the wires from the 6 connector was not soldered to the regulator and was cut short. I though that was odd, so I jumpered that wire and it sounded like it may have been the cold start injector, although I am unsure. I received the new regulator from BD and installed it today. When it got power, the regulator let out a bug puff of smoke. Turns out that the wire that burned out was the same wire that was cut short and not soldered on the previous regulator. The good news is that the gauge is steady now at the appropriate voltage (f…

Do Datsun Z's have clips or anything to hold the injector plugs on? I was replacing some fuel hose today and I noticed one had come off. I then realized none of the plugs have clips or anything to hold them in and it takes almost no effort to pull them off. I Elec. Taped mine. But there must be a better way?

Hello All. I am constantly worried that my car will catch on fire someday due to the harnesses Ive been hearing about, being old and overloaded. I plan on rebuilding the harness to include relays but Im afraid I will mess things up badly. My question though is, Are premature headlight(s) failure a sign of a bad headlight harness? I just bought New headlights (sylvania) for my 280z and I only got around to installing one so far. The one I installed though has burned out already after like a week of use. The headlight that I left in and didnt replace is now brighter and seems fine. So whats going on here? Thanks

Guys, I have finished painting my 1978 280z, i'm in the process of putting everything back together. I have fixed several lights that didn't turn on before like the center light, cigarete lighter light and gauges lights. some fixes were simple enough to just change the light bulbs and others I had to clean the connectors. My question is should the hazard light (the light inside the car where the hazard switch is) be on when you turn your head lights on, or should the light only light up when you turn the hazard lights on? Every thing seems be working fine, my turn signals, hazard lights and my headlights, I just want to get this clear before I put everything back together…
