As part of my refresh project on my 1972 240, I'm thinking of installing a lowering kit, either Tokico HP's & Lowering springs or Eibach's. I'll be running 15" wheels for 98% street & highway driving with the occasional club autocross. From the posts I've read, the Eibach's may be the better spring for my usage. 1) With the 1" lowering springs, other than cutting down the bump-stops, are any other suspension mods required? 2) I know the car will have to be re-aligned, but should there still be enough adjustability to align properly? 3) Should I be concerned about unplesant changes in suspension geometry? 4) Should I expect any change in tire wear? Tha…

When I was removing the rear passenger side, control arm (transverse link) last year I removed this peice and didn't replace it because I could figure it's purpose and it looked home-made. I had found some other home remedies as well that I replaced with proper parts. Over the past year I have seen it on a couple of other 280s - so perhaps it wasn't home-made and maybe it shouldn't have been removed? Any thoughts or info? The part is the square rubber over the inner control arm hinge/bolt. This picture is an example - not a of my car.

Whenever I get over 5k revs at WOT on my 73 240 the shifter begins to vibrate enough to make a loud sort of buzzing noise. I recall someone saying that this was due to the shifter bushings being worn, but before I change them I wanted to hear what others thought. Daniel

Hey ,I thought you all might want to see what 37 years of performing hard looks like ! I knew when i started to dig into this front end I knew would find some driven parts , little did I know they where all still orig . This should answer some of the questions for those asking why there steering wheel shakes at speed on their early Z's . I've replaced using energy suspension in the black poly and with each new part the improvement is astounding the difference it makes . Pictured are old end links , strut rod bushings , steering coupler and sway bar frame bushing's ,soon to come ball joints from moog and lower control arm bushing from ES, tie rods then all will be new . I …

Looking for any suggestions to torque down my suspension after installing new urethane bushings all around. I have read that the control arms need to have the weight of the car and passengers before actally torquing them down, is this true and why? Also, my references seem to be a little confusing when it comes to the torque numbers for each bushing, any good threads for this? My book says the rear control arm- forward inner bushings should be torqued to 100lbs. I don't see how to even get a socket on that bolt to use a torque wrench, and when we are talking 100lbs, aren't we just saying really tight. Not that I take torque values lightly but it's going to be tough to ge…

I just replaced my rubber steering coupler with a urethane. I noticed that the steering wheel began to shake at roughly 65 - 75 mph. Did I install it improperly, have anyone else encountered this issue. Or is something else causing this problem?

72 240Z: Approximately 6 months ago I replaced the stock rear control arm bushings with MSA urethane bushings because the outer passenger side pivit was clunking when shifting and going over bumps. The clunking went away with the new urethane bushings. Now the rear passenger control arm is clunking again when shifting. At least I think that I have narrowed it down to the control arm bushings. Last weekend I installed a tight 3.54 R200 with urethane mustache bushings, checked the U-joints and tightened all of the suspension bolts during re-assembly. And still I get a loud clunk from the passenger side. I also checked the stub axle flange and it is tight. The stub axles ar…

I am redoing the suspension on a 71 and I am keeping the original springs. The car has 85k original miles and the springs aren't even rusty. When i took them off I examined them for differences but couldn't see any difference from front to back or side to side. If anything, the passenger front looked maybe an 1/2" longer . Were the spring rates and heights all the same? Or should I be looking for a heavier coil spring on the rear springs? I have searched but haven't found much on the original springs.

If anyone is looking to buy a speedo gear to match their 3.9 rearend this part is still available from Nissan dealers for $12.47 + tax. I just picked mine up! The part number is 32703-78103, if you have read the zgarage website this is the white one with 19 teeth. Hope this helps someone out there.

Well a little bad luck and a little impatience cost me a urethane rear contol arm outer bushing. actually I just screwed up the metal bushing part that fits over the spindle. I know it's a long shot but i am asking if anyone has some extras laying around that will keep me from buying a whole new kit I will sure would appreciate hearing from you. Or if you know who will send me individual components please point me in the right direction. It's a MSA kit but the bushings shouls all be the same. thanks
