Need a rear hatch strut for 71 Z
Are you looking for OEM or aftermarket? I've seen OEM ones going for $150. But rockauto has an aftermarket one that I bought for about $29 that works perfectly. And it comes with the mounting balls that you will use instead of the original brackets.

Recommended hardware to mount spook?
Arne. I have the original with 9 10mm bolts and fender washers. I have two on each outside edge, like Will, but five in the middle part.

Do You Text while Driving?
In California there currently is a bill winding its way through congress to prohibit teenagers from using any type of mobile communication device while driving. I think this a good idea. Kids are a precious commodity and those of us that are parents need to insure this happens. Mike, surely you jest?

Clock and Radio faceplate
I'll have a picture of the installed faceplate this weekend and will post it Randy. There was a clue to his name in the accolade. I'll let him chime in here...

Clock and Radio faceplate
Some months ago I bought an AM radio from Ebay. When it arrived the faceplate had been broken in two. The break occured directly down the center of the amtena switch hole. And the bottom corners had been broken off at the screw holes. Additionally, all of the chrome letters had been worn off from 35 years of use. My original clock was not functional either (surprise). So I bundled both items up and sent them off to the master. I got both items back last weekend. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the faceplate. It was in one piece, the corners had been rebuilt, the broken faceplate was now one piece and the raised letters were now silver/chrome colored. It had been painted black and it matches the rest of the dash. What great craftsmanship!!! And, to top it off, the clock works! The expertise of our members and the willingness to help one other is what sets this club apart from the rest. Thanks E.

Front Main Seal replace
And if you pull the timing cover, it is advisable to looosen the pan bolts as well. I did not do that and when re-installing the timing cover, due to the tight fit of the timing cover between the pan and the head, the head gasket got pinched, which then caused an oil leak and I had to pull the head to install a new head gasket. And I don't even want to talk about the problem with broken water pump bolts, argh!

Paint care & interior detailer
Gary, I also came to another new Meguiar product named ScratchX. I haven't used it on the Z yet, but i tried it on the wife's 2005 Avalon. It had swirls in the protective coat. This product required alot of elbow grease, but man was I pleased with the results. Followed it up with wax and what a beautiful result. The swirls are gone in most of the clear coat, but there are still some minor swirls, maybe in those places my arm was worn out.

General engine rebuilld questions
Bryan. I had mine rebuilt because of sticking rings. I did the whole thing, pistons bored 40 over, head, timing chain, bearings, etc. Used Nissan parts for the rebuild., except for the valve guides Also at the same time all new clutch components as well including master & slave cylinders. Kind of the wiai thing...Compression checked afterwards at 190/- 3 across the board... It runs perfectly. Revs up to 6500, no smoke, fires up quickly, no hesitation anywhere in the power band. My mechanic tells me it runs better than if it was new. Had to break it in for 1,000 miles. I was hesitant at first to go comletely thru it, but I am extremely pleased with the results. Not cheap though.

Non-canceling turn signal
As did mine Arne. The tags were 1983 on a non-op registration. I had to fight with the California DMV to get them to reissue the original blue plates that were on the car. Seems that at times California DMV will automatically assign new plates to a non-op vehicle. I had to come up with an original registration evidencing that the blue plates were attached to the car at some point in time, as believe this or not, the DMV said they had no record of the plates ever being on the car. So I found a 1983 registration in the pocket on the visor...submited it and 1 and 1/2 years later they reassigned the original plates after five go arounds with them.

which lip spoiler do you think looks the best?
I am partial to the look of the BRE spoiler as well on the 240. It looks much more period correct to me. Sometimes less is better...imo

That's is exactly what I plan to do on mine Arne. It seems like JDWwerks has the best internet price on the KYBs.

Non-canceling turn signal
Hey guys. When I use my left turn signal is does not self cancel. The right signal does cancel. Can't find any old threads about this. What's the fix? Thanks

Rear-ended :(
Andy, from a risk manager's perspective, you are doing the right thing by reporting to your carrier exactly the circumstances that occurred. Let them deal with the problem. Mercury may not step up to the plate, but know that by doing the "right" thing here you have nothing to worry about, accept maybe a lighter wallet The penalties associated with being less than truthful could bring many harsh karmic paybacks, together with adverse legal consequences that could befall you. Good luck with your claim, and your Z. Glad you were not hurt.
