My 1970 240Z!
I got the Xenon FSM going and it refers to the tank simply as a `reservoir tank` and the three bottom lines are all tied into the tank in extremities and are refered to as `ventilation lines` two of which have a * which means `california model`. The one on the top is an air ventilation tube. I believe it is an overflow tank. Probably for overcoming airlock.

240z Crackfree dash on e-bay
I was bidding up to 600 on the subject of this thread and meant to up my max bid, but got distracted with a family gettogether. It looked like a very good buy - but as you are discussing, I was concerned about it being shipped. The vendor described it as plyable - but these things are 35 - 39 years old.... disappointed but not heartbroken. Doug - did you buy that from a certain Mr. Philips?

Just bought Z #3, 1973
Thanks Brian - you are correct it is pretty solid and the more I fiddle with it the better it seems to be. I now have all the suspension parts removed and am waiting on parts, some will be three weeks yet , the upshot is that gives me time to do some tidying up. Bought a couple of spray bombs of satin black (+ primer) so the control arms, mustache bar, struts etc... will all get a refresh. One thing I noticed is that most of the bushings are very good - got me wondering whether or not to replace them all or just the poor ones. Disconnected the electric fuel pump - works fine without it (perhaps better), when the carbs are straightened away I will know for sure - still blowing black smoke. Talking to Bruce at Ztherapy - he is very heplful, but I think these babies are in for a renewal. The smoke got me thinking about oil as well, after all the odometer says 46,000 but how do you know? So I got the compression test on the go this morning and with five cranks per cylinder I got 165 (give or take a couple of lbs) all around. So I am thinking she is not burning oil from bad rings anyway. Turned out to be a happy day. Ron - she wasn't under the tarp for long. More later.

HELP! Clutch grinding, very stiff 1st shift!
It sounds similar to the symtoms I had when my clutch plate was on the way out.

Discussing 240Z values, especially Low VIN
I bet there are alot more than 5000 240s around - no offence intended to anyone. Perhaps 5000 licenced, but I bet there are over 5000 in California (in various states of repair) according to the number you see for sale. Not all Vettes fetch big money, can't speak for Jags.

Discussing 240Z values, especially Low VIN
RJ - if there were 100,000 Superbirds still kicking around and all sorts of parts/engines (complete) readily available, I'm sure you would get one for less than 100K.

Discussing 240Z values, especially Low VIN
I agree that timing plays a very large part. If that person or those people (actual buyers) are in play at that time - you will get a good price, if not well - too bad, hope you can wait for a better time. Supply is still outweighing demand.

A 69 240-Z worth saving..
Looks nice - if anyone does an upclose and personal, can you post some pictures of the tricky spots and the interior?

My 1970 240Z!
Hey Kevin - If I were you I would be very excited. There's lot's of work to be done - but that's the meaning of "diamond in the rough". I look forward to following your progress in this thread.
-
Would you patch or cut and weld
I have no opinion - those stated so far are very good though. I only wanted to say that is a beautiful looking cave.

Can't wait! Show us what you got.

Is your Z 'done'? Post here, if so.
Done with the 77. She's gone from almost impossible to steer with bottoming out suspension, misfiring engine, bad wheel bearings, no: radio, antennae, highbeams, windshield wipers, heater, A/c, stereo. With busted console, faded out carpets, vacum leaks, noisy fourspeed, bad clutch, sun faded paint, bad brakes, homemade m. bar bushings, mismatched wheels and tires TO a daily driver that I have put 10,000 miles on since buying (including 300 miles this Friday - half in torential rain) and would drive across Canada tomorrow (If I had a reason to). Further that I get unsolicited offers on and numerous compliments on and on one occasion got the girls at Tim Hortons coffee all in the window at once to admire my beautiful `Porsche`. Long way from home on the 73.

I do wish you luck and I hope it turns out to be a solid car. If it doesn't don't be surprised either, pictures tell stories that can be deceptive. You really need to see it up close and personal to truley know what you are (or aren't) getting into. A well taken picture can make a #3 look like a #1. Please take your camera with you and share with us the reality of this car if it turns out to be good or bad. You have me wondering. Good luck

It was not in the first boat load but it is a ralatively low VIN. It may have good value later if brought along carefully.
